CES 2011: Dell Streak 7 Heading To T-Mobile
January 8, 2011 01:24 PM

At T-Mobile’s CES 2011 Press Conference, Dell unveiled a brand new 7-inch Android tablet, the Streak 7. Although a follow-up to their existing 5-inch Streak, the new larger model features 4G mobile broadband through T-Mobile’s network.

The Streak 7 sports Gorilla Glass, runs on Android 2.2, and features a dual-core 1 GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor. It has full access to the Android Marketplace, which features over 100,000 applications. A rear-facing 5 megapixel camera enables high-definition video recording, while the front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera offers video chat through Qik. Unlike Apple’s FaceTime, video calls work over T-Mobile’s 3G and 4G networks in addition to WiFi. As for storage, there’s 16GB of internal memory and a SD card slot (not microSD).

“Dell is continuing to create the very best in entertainment, mobile and gaming experiences,” said Steve Felice, president of Dell’s Consumer, Small and Medium Business unit. “With Streak 7 on the blazingly fast T-Mobile network, families, students and mobile professionals will gather, share, and find new ways to interact and keep in touch.”

Dell also includes a new Stage user interface which provides the native Android interface for the tablet form factor. It also will let users sync photos, contacts, calendars, and other data across other Dell Stage enabled devices. T-Mobile will also pre-load their on-demand TV service, Adobe Flash, BrainPOP, Zinio, Blockbuster, Kindle, Let’s Golf demo, Slacker Radio, Swype, and Zoodles. It’s unclear whether customers will be able to remove or uninstall without tampering with the original installation.

According to T-Mobile, the Dell Streak 7 will be available in the United States “in the coming weeks.” There’s no mention of pricing yet. Also left unanswered was whether the Streak 7 would get an update to support the newly announced Android 3.0 Honeycomb. We’ll try to get our hands on a unit for a full review in the near future, so stay tuned. Feel free to follow us on Twitter or like our page on Facebook.
