LG enV Touch (VX-11000) Review 129

LG enV Touch VX11000Bringing back the “enV” name, the LG enV Touch (VX-11000) is the upgrade to the popular LG Voyager (VX-10000), which was released in late 2007. The phone keeps the same form factor as its predecessor, but is now slimmer and more stylish. The enV Touch has many new features, normally found in more expensive devices, such as video editing and a office document viewer.

The Body: 3.5/5 stars
There is no doubt that the enV Touch is a large phone; 4.5 inches tall, 2 inches wide, and over a half inch thick. Despite being a tad bit too large, it actually looks a whole lot more attractive than the Voyager and the Dare. The back of the phone features a soft rubberized texture with a unique engraved pattern which offers a decent grip. The left side has the camera trigger, volume toggle, and the display lock button. A 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD slot can be found on the right side. On the bottom you’ll find the microUSB connector which serves two purposes: charging and data transfer. The face of the phone has a large 3-inch touch screen and three “brushed metal”-looking physical buttons at the bottom: send, clear, and end. The clear key seconds as the voice command button when on the home page and initiates voice memo recordings when held down. When you flip open the phone you are introduced to another 3-inch display, stereo speakers, a full QWERTY keyboard, and a navigation D-pad. Compared to the Voyager, the keyboard now has larger keys and remains well spaced at the same time. LG has finally placed repositioned the “space bar” to the center of the keyboard instead of two “space bars” on the bottom left and right as they were on the LG Voyager, LG enV2, and LG enV. Overall, though the enV Touch isn’t the most compact phones I’ve had for what it offers, but remains functional and isn’t too large to fit into an average sized pocket or purse.

LG enV Touch VX11000 vs. iPhone 3GS

The Displays: 4/5 stars
We were quite impressed with the resolution and the colors of the displays. The enV Touch’s 800 x 480 pixel display has a higher resolution than the iPhone’s 480 x 320 pixel screen. Both photos and videos look great on both screens. The external display also uses a sensor that dims out the screen as you hold it up to your ear, but I found this to be sometimes problematic since it often didn’t turn back on if I were to try to use the interface during a call. The only way I managed to get the screen working again was to either flip open the phone or by placing my finger over the sensor for a second and then moving it away. Other than that small annoyance, the displays are bright, sharp, and even looks decent outdoors.

User Interface: 4/5
The enV Touch has a similar interface to the Voyager and like its predecessor, duplicates features on the external and internal display. However, not all features on the external work from the internal, and vice versa. For example, photo editing only functions on the external touch screen. To unlock the phone you must slide up an overlay on the screen or press the lock/unlock button on the side of the phone. The home screen has 5 permanent icons on the bottom: messaging, dialpad, menu, phonebook, and favorites. The favorites menu allows you to set 10 favorite contacts for quick access. In addition 3 “widgets” can be placed anywhere the main page; memo, calendar, and clock. The memo is very similar to a sticky note on a Macs. On the right side of the home screen there is an arrow which links to the shortcut menu, which manages all application/utility shortcuts. Mostly any tool on the phone can be placed in the shortcut menu or can also be placed as an icon on the homepage. The interface on the internal display has a more traditional interface, familiar to that most Verizon Wireless phones. The D-pad can be customized to launch various applications when on the home screen. One major problems I ran into occurred when an application on the internal display then closing the phone would exit out of the application and return to the home screen instead of moving to the outer display. Overall, the interface is very intuitive and for the most part it works seamlessly between the two displays.

Messaging: 5/5 stars
After many iterations of the enV lineup, LG has mastered the messaging feature of this phone. The physical keyboard does not need much of an explanation, it works as it should and feels great. The external display also supports messaging, with support for both a portrait and landscape virtual keyboard. The virtual portrait keyboard does the job just fine for quick responses, but is a bit impractical for typing long messages. The horizontal virtual keyboard works a whole lot better than the portrait and is a viable option. The interface enlarges the letters you hit as they are typed and provide haptic feedback as well. The size of each virtual key and spacing helps the usability experience as well, however the internal physical QWERTY keyboard is by far the best solution for messaging.

LG enV Touch VX11000 Camera

Camera & Camcorder: 5/5 stars
The enV Touch has an extremely feature packed camera and camcorder interface not found on other phones. The 3.2 megapixel camera can take photos up in various resolutions up to 2048×1536. It features an unusually bright LED flash, which can automatically turn on in low-light situations. The camera uses the auto-focus setting by default, but can be switched to macro for close-up images as well as a manual focus option. The camera has white balance, brightness, color effects, and self timer settings. In addition to these settings the camera has a couple of “goodies” that you will not see in the typical phone camera. One would be the panorama mode, where the phone will actually guide you through the process of snapping a panoramic photo with on screen instructions and then stitching them together. Another would be the smile detection, where the camera will only snap the photo only once the subject smiles to get the best picture. My favorite by far was the NameCard reader, which lets you snap an image of a physical business card and it uses OCR to extract the name, email, and phone number into your contacts. A built in image editor allows cropping, draw on the image, and adjusting the brightness of the photo.

The camcorder can record clips with a max resolution of 640×480 and offers custom white balance, brightness, and color effects. Most phone’s camcorder functions are rendered useless in the dark, but not the enV Touch. The camcorder can switch on the LED flash during a recording which turned out to help a lot. Finally, the enV Touch does a great job with video editing. One of the much hyped feature on iPhone 3GS was video trimming and this plus much more can be done on the enV Touch. The trim feature allows a simple crop, after choosing a start and end point. But say you wanted to cut together multiple parts of a video, that’s where the multi-trim feature comes in. You can cut together up to 3 different parts of a video (3 different start and end points) and the phone will merge these different parts together into one video. The camera in the enV Touch really stands out because of the depth of options presented and puts it clearly ahead of many other phones in the U.S. Market.

LG enV Touch VX11000 Headphones LG enV Touch VX11000 microSD

Music: 3.5/5 stars
The enV Touch was designed to work as a full time mp3 player with a set of  internal stereo speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The music player is organized by Artists, Genres, and Albums. It can also display album artwork which looks good in its sincere imitation of “cover flow”. The player can create on-the-go playlists and manage music storage between the microSD card and internal memory. Music playback supports shuffle and repeat modes. For listening options, the Dolby settings allows you to toggle between preset equalizers, such as bass booster and classical. Audio playback on the speakers was clear with no crackle, even when turned up all the way. One of the features I liked the most was that music application can run in the background. Performing other tasks such as look up a contact or texting is possible without having to exit the music player. I decided to use my enV Touch when I went for a jog. I found it extremely difficult to use the external display to navigate through songs. In addition to the poor visibility due  to sunlight, it was difficult to even manage to click the next button or pause my music. Some external controls for music would have gone a long way. Overall the music player felt solid, keeps getting better, and usable but not polished, it needs to be put back in the oven for a bit longer.

Syncing: 4.5/5 stars
The enV Touch uses a standard microUSB port to connect to a computer. It can be used in data mode, which shows up as an USB Mass Storage Device on a computer and allows you to manually transfer photos, documents, and music to the microSD card. The other option is to use the phone in music mode, in which it can be synced with the Verizon V Cast Music with Rhapsody program or with Windows Media Player as an MP3 player. The charger is also modular, the AC adapter is actually a USB charger. The same cable needs to be disconnected and is used to sync with your computer. One small quirk I noticed was the fact that the phone significantly heated up while charging. It wasn’t too hot that I’d be concerned about the phone getting damaged, however constant heat isn’t good for batteries, meaning a reduced lifespan.

LG enV Touch VX11000 Left Side

Document Viewer and Other Features: 4.5/5 stars
The phone offers many other features including the now standard world clock, tip calculator, and alarm clock. The one feature that stood out the most was the document viewer, an application not usually found on a non-smartphone. The viewer can read, .doc, .docx, .xls, .xslx, .ppt, .pptx, .pdf, and .txt files. The documents loaded fairly quickly and were fairly readable once zoomed in. I found using the Document Viewer more pleasurable than the iPhone. Mainly since I could simply copy them straight over to the phone’s storage or microSD, rather than having to email them to myself as you have to do on the iPhone.

Conclusion:
After using the enV touch for a few weeks, it has left us with a very good impression. I would say as of now, it is the best non-smartphone on the Verizon Wireless network. It has an amazing display, two displays to be correct,  and excellent media features. It supports a full HTML web-browser, VZ Navigator, V-Cast videos, voice commands, and text to speech. If you are looking for a new phone and just can’t justify paying those required high rates for data plans associated with smartphones, the enV Touch is a no brainier. It has a solid set of features that just about everyone from a casual consumer to a tech-junkie can appreciate. It is available online and in Verizon Wireless stores now for $150 for new customers. Existing customers eligible for upgrade should be able to knock off about $50 to $100 based of the type of calling plan they currently have.

I’m considering getting the Touch and your comments are very helpful. A question I have concerns the MP3 storage and playback. Can I use the Touch to store and listen to recorded books and podcasts using these features?

Sahas Katta says:

of course! if the audiobook files are one of the formats supported by the phone yes! however if it is one of those DRM enabled files that states it only works with specific devices, you might have a bit of trouble!

Yes, the Touch will play recorded books and podcasts, however, it cannot remember your place in either an audio book or podcast, it treats them as it would any other music file.

Heidi says:

I just bought the enV touch today and I’ve been playing with all of the features. When I took a picture, I noticed that, unlike most phones, the front screen does not show what you’re taking a picture of. Usually, there is a button to press to turn this setting on, but I’ve searched and searched and I cannot find it. Does this button exist on this phone?

super smart env touch dude says:

yeah you must go to setting i think

Maddy says:

no i dont think it does….. if someone could prove me wrong id be more then happy

William says:

Hi! This is my first post for this section. I do love this phone… I actually owned the LG The V and LG Voyager… but this phone by far is the most “fun-tastic” and enjoyable phone I’ve ever had! I have noticed two issues that I’m dealing with:
1) When you charge by the USB charger to the USB hub/port OR charge it by the USB charger with A/C adapter, I see that the phone heats up a little, therefore, that might deplete the physical battery power. 2) Call quality: When you adjust the phone (not during a call), I can hear it very well. BUT… when you are IN a call (conversation), you cannot adjust the volume setting; that also makes the sound even quieter than the LG Voyager itself, where you can adjust the volume WHILE in a call. What gives? How do I adjust the volume setting WHILE in a call on the ET (EnV Touch, for short)? Suggestions? Tips? Feedback is welcome! Thank you!

Sahas Katta says:

I could be wrong, but I assumed you just use the volume up/down rocker on the left side of the phone to increase or decrease volume when in a call! Let us know if that doesn’t work.

William says:

Hi. I just did that.. for some odd reason, it says that “TTY MODE UNAVAILBLE” while turning the volume “rocker” up or down. Hmm… maybe I need to change the TTY mode setting. See if that helps. Respond back if so. Thank you!

William says:

Yep… I found the reason why it was so low while in a call: It was the TTY mode setting… that was very odd! Thank you very much though!

Bob Creason says:

I have had the phone a couple of weeks now and really like it. The large screen is great. But I don’t like the announcement of each menu selection I make. Is there a way to turn this off? Thanks.

yes, the menu readout option should not have been on by default, but to turn it off go to settings –> phone settings –> voice commands –> prompt mode, and select “Prompts” ,that should turn off the readout on each menu.

Courtney says:

So i’m thinking about upgrading to the env touch. I’ve gotten really into twitter lately and was wondering if you can take pictures with the phone and post them on your twitter. I know you can with a blackberry and with the iphone I just don’t know about the touch. If anyone knows the answer that’d be great. Thanks!

Lacy says:

im thinking about getting the env touch just wondering what other colors then black do they come in???

William says:

Since the LG EnV Touch is an almost brand-new phone for Verizon Wireless, the only color option is the black color… same way that the LG Voyager did when it first came out in the 4th Qtr. of 2007. Maybe it will come with different color flavors in the future… but don’t count on that UNLESS they really do in the future.

LIsa says:

I’ve had the phone for a couple of months now and am starting to have trouble getting the touch screen to work. Sometimes I can’t even answer the phone. Anyone else having these troubles. Have gotten pretty disgusted

Meranda says:

You just need to do a touch screen collaboration on the phone. It should be somewhere in the settings.

Pam says:

I just put a 2gb microSD card in my LG Env Touch. How do I get my pictures to store on the card, instead of on the phone?

Sahas Katta says:

It’s actually quite easy. Just head over to the Settings. Then go to the Memory section. There should be something called “Save Options.” In there you can choose where you want photos and videos to be saved! Hope that helps!

P.S. Nice to see someone using a Gravatar :)

Leah says:

I put a 4 GB card in my phone, but can’t figure out how to get the photos ALREADY stored on the phone memory to transfer to the microSD. Is there a way to do that?

Leah says:

Just got the answer to my own question. After installing the card in the phone you can go to Settings & Tools>Memory>Phone Memory>My Pictures. There, you will find the option “Move Picture.” You can mark all and hit “Done” and the phone will move all your files from the phone memory to the SD Micro. Now I can pull that card out, put it in the adapter and put it in the card reader USB and put them on my computer. The phone takes great photos, but I was really annoyed that they would only send in a downsized mode via text.

Sahas Katta says:

yup, that sounds about right!

zach says:

how you get the pics over to the card is go to memery under settings and tools and go to phone memery and click on pics and go to options and click move and then mark all then ok

Pam says:

Thank you so much. I just got this phone, so I may be back with more questions.

Margaret says:

I’m having a lot of trouble trying to sync my EnV Touch’s calendar with my computer. The app LG sells has not worked. After going to an LG forum, I learned that others have experienced this glitch. Someone in the forum recommended synccell.com which has an app but it seems to work only for PCs. Is there a solution for a mac user?
Help.

Sahas Katta says:

in all honesty, that calendar is pretty crappy. it’s proprietary so its not going to be easy to find applications to work with it. there might be some apps in the VCAST store to help sync with stuff such as google calendar. however most people don’t use phones such as that as a smart phone. But yes I agree it should be much easier and more open!

Darth Bubba says:

Margaret, give Bitpim a try. The newest test release supports the enV Touch, and will allow you to sync the Calendar, along with phonebook, wallpapers, and ringtones. Thanks to Bitpim, I’ve never bought a ringtone from Verizon. :) I’m not sure if the Mac version has enV Touch support yet, but it’s worth a shot.

http://www.bitpim.org/

Charlie D says:

I am in great need of the ability to sync my calendar to Google’s calendar. I cannot justify the cost of the smart phone. Got my EnV touch at a screaming deal when i purchased the new service. Does anyone have any further info on VCAST or other places to pick up an apps to do so? It would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Kyleigh W says:

I want an env touch but i want to know some things about it will somebody tell me about it cause in 10 days im up for an upgrade so thanks Please comment!

William says:

Hey Kyleigh… as far as I know, I’ve owned the LG EnV Touch for over a month… this is by far the MOST and fabulous phone I’ve ever owned! Sure, it lacks the option of subscribing to Mobile TV like the LG Voyager did, but hey.. it FINALLY has autofocus feature WITH the LED flash.. that helped a lot especially in low-light conditions. The thing is… even though it has 1.5 video zooming option (or picture zooming at 1.5x?), that wasn’t the most impressive option because the Voyager had 4x the zooming feature (pictures or videos)…. but all in all, the LG EnV Touch is, by far, the excellent choice when purchasing that phone! You can also download videos, pictures, music, and other files (And in PDF format too! Also Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 files).. and so on.

The only con I had was the volume rocker feature because I couldn’t hear the phone when someone was talking to me… it turns out that it was one of the TTY modes I had on and it had to be OFF… then the problem was solved! :-)

Barb says:

I’ve had the phone for almost a week (used to have a Dare). Does anyone know if there’s a limit to how large an SD card I can use? Also, I’m using the T9 setting and it doesn’t seem to be saving words I’ve used in the internal dictionary thing – I keep having to manually correct them. Is there a way to make it save words?

Sahas Katta says:

I believe 16GB miroSD is the max.

Barb says:

Thanks. Is the internal memory on this phone less than the Dare or am I imagining it?

Adawn says:

What’s the word on the EnV3?

William says:

Well… according to one of my favorite cell phone websites, http://www.mobiledia.com, and with its phone comparison (based on what cell phone(s) you are looking at from that website), here are the (or their) cell phone memory sizes shown below:

LG Dare: 148 MB (Internal)/up to 8 or 16 GB (external; use MicroSD card)
LG EnV 2: 128 MB (Internal) and up to 8 GB (external MicroSD card)**
LG EnV T: 250 MB (Internal) and up to 16 GB (external MicroSD)*

* = I’ve heard rumors that the barrier could “break” and could have a maximum of 32 GB or 64 GB of external MicroSD memory… I really don’t know about this part.

** = as a reference for those who have their own phones as partially described in line 2.

Barb says:

Hmm.. maybe it was just a glitch. I was on there checking my bank account and in the middle of transferring some money, it stopped and said there wasn’t enough memory to load the page – then it shut off. I turned it back on and tried again and it was fine.

Thanks for the info!

William says:

I forgot to mention a couple of things: First of all, when I said “line 2″, a reader would think the 2nd line in the 1st paragraph… I meant to say “Line 2 as in reading the “LG EnV 2″ part). The other thing I should note is that the part where I put the **… well, I think I read it somewhere in a forum at http://www.env-touch.com. The other vaild (forum) website is http://www.voyager-lg.com. The forum is mainly for people who needs more info. or needs some help on both the LG EnV Touch (EnV T.) and LG Voyager, respectively.

Sahas Katta says:

Hey Everyone,
Just wanted to give everyone a quick heads up, we just reviewed the ZAGG invisibleSHIELD for the LG enV Touch. It’s a great accessory for the phone, so check it out Invisible Shield for enV Touch

Julie says:

Can I use the microSD card to transfer music to my phone? I subscribed to Rhapsody/Vcast, and for the life of me could not get my laptop to sync. So I could listen to the music on my laptop but couldn’t drag to the phone. I really want to be able to listen to music with this phone, so if anyone has any tips (that do NOT involve Vcast) I would love to hear them.

Thanks!

Tara says:

I have had this phone for a few weeks now and absolutely love it! The only issue I’m having is with the calendar. I use it all the time to keep track of all of my appts. but I hate that it defaults to a 15 min. reminder. I don’t want to use a reminder at all and can’t find a way to change this default. Any suggestions?

Barb says:

I don’t think you can change the default, but you can click in that spot and set the reminder for “None”, then save.

Is anyone else having trouble getting the front touch display to respond to your touch? Sometimes I have to hit the icon numerous times before it responds. Any tips??

Dave says:

How does one open a doc, SS, pdf etc stored on the MicroSD card?

Kelly says:

i just switched from the venus (which i LOVED) to the touch (which is great, still adjusting to the full touch rather than only a partial touch) but i have one major complaint that i cannot seem to find an answer to…when taking pictures, it prompts me to save or erase, with the venus i was able to set it to automatically save to my sd card, then i could edit and delete at a laterdate if i wanted…i cannot seem to find this option and find it hard to believe one doesnt exist (i often forget to hit “save” and by having the automatic save option, it cuts down on time AND lost photos)…anyone out there have the solution??? THX!

Barb says:

There’s an Auto Save setting.
When in picture mode, click on the settings icon.
You see Resolution, Shutter sound, White Balance, Color effects, (scroll for more) Self timer, Auto Save and Save option.

I didn’t think it existed either until I tried scrolling.

Kelly says:

THANK YOU, Barb!!! much easier that way!!!

William says:

To Dave: My theory (I’ve never tried this before, but it wouldn’t hurt to try it out) would be that once you’ve got the necessary files (*.doc, *.docx, *.pdf, etc…) saved on your computer (PC or Mac), then you could probably transfer those file(s) to your MicroSD/HC card. I hope that it helps you out!

William

DALLAS says:

i was wondering when your taking pictures with it while its opened does the image appear on the front screen or can you change it to that

I think that depends on whether or not you open or close the phone… either way, the pictures (and videos) show up on either side of the phone from your viewpoint.

Elizabeth says:

I’ve had my touch for a few weeks now and I’ve only had 2 real problems.

1. the date and time on the front screen just disappeared, and I don’t know how to get it back on there.

2. When I’m on calls, and I pull the phone away from my face, it no longer lights up. it just stays black. Even when I try to touch the screen nothing happens. It doesn’t go away until I end a call. If I recieve a text message it will light up, but still not let me touch the screen to do anything.

Has anyone had either of these problems? If so, please tell me.
I’d really like to fix them.
thanks.

Michelle From the Nati says:

Got to settings and tools and click on call settings. Click on “show dialpad” and check on all of the options. I had an enV touch that I had to send back because this option did not work plus the phone kept shutting off without warning. When I received the second phone this did work on showing the dialpad. Another thing to do is open the phone and use the keypad there, or open and close it again…you then have to unlock the outside screen but can then use it…

The clock is simple. Click the arrow on the right side of the front screen. Click on the “Clock Wi” icon and arrow over to the different options for the external clock options. When finished click the X at the top right and your clock will be back.

Hope this helps!!

Elizabeth says:

yeah thanks that helped a lot.
everythings fixed.
thanks so much.

Michelle From the Nati says:

I have the vcast vpak on my enV Touch. I cannot figure out how to save videos to my phone. I get into the vcast video section and while watching the video I click the options key but the only options choices are “get V CAST videos, video info, about, and help”. There is no option to save as the website said it would be there. Any ideas?

Priscilla says:

As far as the plans go, if i want the least amount of minutes with unlimited messaging, whats the lowest price and plan?

Sahas Katta says:

Lowest plan should be $39/month for 450 Mins.
Unlimited Messaging is $20/month

dana says:

i have this phone and the main glitches that this phone has is, it turns off randomly. like when you go to your pictures and you want to go to edit a picture and use the face makeover feature is may turn off on its own. the env touch also isnt very good with the signal strength. i get service but not as many bars as i would like. well i love this phone all i just dont like the minor glitches that occur.

Barb says:

The only problem I’m having is this:
I go to check my voicemail and when I pull the phone away from my face, I can’t get it to light back up again so I can enter my PW. Touch the screen, nothing. Hit the clear/back button, nothing. I hit the end key and *click* hangs up (of course). I’ve done the keypad settings, backlight settings, etc. Doesn’t work. One site says to flip it open and do it that way, but hello… like I want to check my messages on speaker? No thanks.

Anyone else having this problem? I’m about to take it back to verizon and have them give me another one. Otherwise, aside from the sucky battery life, it’s a great phone.

Bob Creason says:

I have the same problem, Barb. My keyboard goes away like yours and I have it set to stay on. I have added the password to the speed dial setting – you can add it to the pre-programed *86, so it will go ahead and enter it for me even though the keyboard goes away. Works for me.
Bob

Barb says:

Thanks for the tip, Bob. Sadly, we shouldn’t even have to adjust for the problem. I ended up calling customer support today and told them what happens. She said I could just switch it out. She asked if I had other problems so I told her that sometimes on the web (like on a mobile banking site) the page won’t load because there’s “not enough memory” – which is BS. I’d check the memory on the phone and it’ll say 0, but when I turn it off then on again, it’s back to normal.

Out of curiosity, after you added the PW to the speed dial, are you still able to get the keyboard to show to delete or save messages?

Bob Creason says:

I have found that if you rock the phone back and fourth quickly the keypad will return for a few seconds, long enough to press a key. I guess this is done by the motion sensor that is used to rotate a picture from landscape to portrait mode. Strange, but it works.

dtw-dave says:

Hey all … upgraded from a Chocolate 2 and I really like this phone. I found two things in the manual (so far) that I can’t find on the phone itsself: 1) Is there a way to adjust touch sensitivity? And 2) How do you activate the Text to Speech feature for messaging?

Oh, and as much as I like this device, it seems that the only way to use the speaker phone is to open the flip … wish you could do it with the device closed … anyone know how to make that happen?

Thanks!

Sahas Katta says:

Don’t know about touch sensitivity. To activate text2speech, just click on the space bar i think! Speakerphone phone open only i’m pretty sure.

Justin says:

The phone has an accelerometer in it. Which, in simple terms, means that when it moves it can detect that movement. So when you want the keypad to light up when you are on a phone then all you have to do is move it and the accelerometer should detect the movement and light up.

dtw-dave says:

Oops … I just found how to activate the Text to Speech feature … just press the talking man icon on the upper right of a text message.

i’ve had this phone for about 4 months now, but this happened like the 3rd week i got this phone. i was with my friends when one of them accindently knocked the phone out of my hands and it fell on the ground and the battery came out. now the phone has fell and the battery has came out before but i put it back in and everything was fine but that time i put it back in and i was going to take a picture with my friends at my camera wouldn’t work. everytime i press the camera button a big blue box coms up and it says camera start error. i was so mad. then about a month later my friend got the same phone and i compared our phones and cameras. hers has dropped plenty of times and her camera still works. it gets me so mad. but i have also noticed that my actual camera looks a little popped out. please help me. i NEED my camera back. if you have any solutions please answer back. THANK YOU. (:

Sahas Katta says:

Looks like you’ve got some physical damage to the phone. The damage to your phone might have been more than your friends. The best thing to do is take it into Verizon Wireless, be honest and explain what happened. If it’s defective, they might fix it. If it’s due to your negligence, they might charge you a bit for a replacement. Good Luck!

JENNY says:

I HAVE HAD THE ENV TOUCH FOR ABOUT 5 MONTHS NOW AND MY SCREEN ALSO GOES BLACK AFTER DIALING. THIS IS FRUSTRATING BECAUSE YOU CANNOT GO BETWEEN CALLS OR USE THE DIAL PAD. I CALLED VERIZON AND THE ONLY COMMENT THEY HAVE IS WE WILL REPLACE IT WITH A REFURBISHED ONE. GREAT ANOTHER PHONE THATS HAD PROBLEMS. WISHED THEY WOULD JUST REPLACE WITH A NEW ONE THAT WORKS SINCE WE ALL PAID SO MUCH FOR THEIR PHONES & SERVICES. I HAVE TALKED WITH OTHERS AND THEY ALSO HAVE DIFFERENT PHONES FROM VERIZON AND THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING.

Barb says:

I ended up doing the exchange. The one they sent me works fine and they credited me for my downloaded games when I called and told them I had to exchange my phone because it was buggy. (For the record, I had a Dare before I got the Touch and I never had that problem. I chalk it up to getting the phone when it first came out instead of waiting for them to work the bugs out)

Steve says:

Simple fix, the proximity sensor needs to be recalibrated. I had the same issues after adding a screen protector and a case. Once recalibrated the screen lights up and works as it should.

Sahas Katta says:

I think you can just take the phone into a store and ask them to do a firmware upgrade. There’s usually new small software fixes released every few months for these phones.

robert says:

ok new to the touch but love the phone only trouble im haveing is the ringtone is not load it rings in side the phone insted of out side i have put everthing on high am i missing something even got a ringtone from verizon still no change .

Barb says:

It’s probably because the speakers are on the inside… Louder when you flip open. Same on the other EnV phones and I think the Voyager.

Eliza says:

i just got the enV touch 3 days ago. on my old phone, i saved all the pictures and ringtones i wanted onto a 2 gb microSD card. when i put it in my enV touch, i couldn’t get any of my ringtones or pictures to show up on the phone. i went to memory under settings and it said there was nothing on it. i checked on my computer and everything was still there. PLZ HELP ME GET MY PICTURES!!!!!!

Sahas Katta says:

it looks like the phone formatted the memory card. if so, the data is most likely gone!

mike says:

I used the card from my razer and had the same problem. Try taking a photo with the env and save to card put it in your computer and see where that photo saved to. I had to drag all of my old pics from a differnt folder on the card to where the new photo was saved and it worked fine.

Darrell says:

VX11000 – 2nd phone in 6 weeks. Touch screen went out in 1 week, replaced and all seemed well, but on occasion it would shut off on its own. I was told it needed an update, and one was run for it. 2nd phone is shutting off on its own, and will not turn on unless I pull the battery and then power up. It is starting to happen more often, but past my 30 days. I will call up big V, but anyone know why this is happening? I am seeing it more and more.

Bboys#1fan says:

I’ve noticed that you cannot delete the pictures on the EnVtouch…is there something im missing? It’s the pictures that are already there when you get the phone.

Sean says:

I’ve had my EnVtouch for about 5 months now I really like it but everytime I make a call or call my VM the screen goes black right after I dial. I can’t put my password in or delete a VM unless I open up the phone then reclose it the screen will re-appear. I have been through all the settings am I missing something? I went down to Verizon and couldn’t give me a answer.

Barb says:

Sean,
I had the same problem (see somewhere above). I called customer service and explained it to them that that was happening and that I even double checked all my settings. They sent me another one (It’ll most likely be a refurb but the one I got in exchange was in excellent condition, even had all the new stickers covering the screens, etc.)

Sean says:

Thanks Barb I failed to read your posts above till after i had posted and I have tried everything, so I guess I will call customer service rather than going to the store. I take it this has cured your problem with the screen going black after dialing?

Barb says:

Hmm… I posted in the wrong spot. LOL

Yep. No more problems.
I think it’s part of the gamble of buying them when they first come out and the bugs have been found

Sean says:

Barb did you have a screen protecter on the old one or your new one? Just curious.

Barb says:

On the first one, I kept that sticker on the face that comes when you get a new phone (I never peeled it off. I’m weird… they have no air bubbles and stick better than when you put a new one on.) I calibrated it with it on there and everything, it wasn’t a sensitivity issue.

On the one they sent me, I still kept the sticker on AND have it in a leather case that has a thin plastic face on it – works fine.

Sean says:

Thanks for the info!!!

Barb says:

No prob. :o)

Sahas Katta says:

The included plastic piece on the front screen often causes that problem. Be sure to remove it. If you get a screen protector, make sure it has a cutout for those sensors at the top. Otherwise it will have the black out problem.

Sean says:

I just cut out a piece of my screen protecter where the sensor is at that seemed to fix the problem. I had one of those non-scratch thick sheets put on now the screen lights when I pull it away from my face.

Barb says:

Yep. No more problems.
I think it’s part of the gamble of buying them when they first come out and the bugs have been found.

Jacob says:

I’ve been trying to figure out how to put music onto the memory card and have it show up on the phone but it won’t, do i have to use rhapsody? or is there another way i can transfer them?

Sean says:

Jacob my phone will only sync up with Windows Media player which usually is on windows xp or vista. I have a 2gb card in for mostly music. I had a Zune that broke and had bought a lot of music from there site and the media player will pull anything I have downloaded over to sync up. I’m not sure about I-tunes or anyother mp3 site. Once you get it loaded though I think the phone is better than any mp3 player, you can adjust music settings, make music folders and has great sound through a good head set.

Aldea says:

Okay, so I just got the enV Touch today! So excited. But I was reading some comments on here on how to put things onto your mircoSD cards, but i want to know how to pull things off of it. :O any help would be great.

Connie says:

I just got lg enVtouch and when i get a pic from someone it is like a thumbnail size how do i get it to show full size?

Amy says:

I got an enV Touch last week and used the “LG Outlook Sync” to transfer my laptop’s Outlook calendar to the phone. It worked well enough, but the problem I’m having is related to the reminder feature. Most of my appointments have a reminder alarm which I like on my computer, but not on my phone. Is there any way to globally stop the phone from making any noise at appointment times without editing every single appointment on the phone’s calendar? Thanks. Amy

Mark says:

I am planning to get an enV Touch soon, but i want to know 1 thing first. I have many songs saved onto a SD card from my old phone (which is an Alias by verizon) and if i transfer the card to the enV Touch, will the phone format the card and delete everything on it?

Barb says:

Mark,

I transferred my SD card from my Dare and I didn’t lose my tunes or my pictures.

Mark says:

thanks Barb.

Jessica says:

Okay… So I have a question. Just got the enV Touch today. Pulled the microSD card out of my old Motorola VE20, and put it into the Touch. Doesn’t do anything. I can’t access any of the 70 some songs on the card or any of my old photos… Any suggestions as to what I’m doing wrong?

What does everyone think of the new “Touch” called the “Chocolate Touch”? I’ve seen some comparisons and contrasts between the two… in my opinion, I’m sticking with the regular “Touch” because it has both the Virtual and QWERTY keyboard, since the Chocolate Touch has only the Virtual keyboard. Maybe the CT (Chocolate Touch) has no “flip” to open the phone like the regular Touch does? On an un-related note, both Touches have no mobile TV like the LG Voyager did. That really bites!

Mark says:

the touch does not have a flip out QWERTY. i like the CT however because of it’s music capabilities. i still prefer the enV touch though.

Yeah… I saw some features not present in the EnV Touch: FM radio and something else I can’t remember that is present in the Chocolate Touch. But at least, it lacks the QWERTY keyboard that the EnV Touch does, so that’s why I’m sticking with the EnV Touch. STill a great phone, though! :-D

Alisha says:

Hi all..just got the new “touch” yesterday and I love it..except it keeps dropping my calls! Battery is charged, but my calls get dropped and it’s SO ANNOYING! My husband also got one yesterday and he’s had no problems. Am I doing something wrong? Have other people had this problem? Thinking of heading over to Verizon tomorrow to have them check it out..

Sean says:

This is just a thought but you may check your Back Light timer on the front screen may be your hitting the End key with your cheek.

Mark says:

I have another question. Are there seperate themes that can be used? If so, do i have to buy them or are some included with the phone?

Sarah says:

So I was scroling up to unlock my phone and my date/time scrolled up to and went to my shortcut menu which was a trash can..any way of getting it back??????thats is my life!!!!!!!!!

Jessica says:

@Sarah, you should be able to touch on your shortcuts menu again. If it’s not listed there, touch on the ADD button at the bottom of that screen. It will give you a large list of options to add. Find it there… add it to your shortcuts page. Then drag it back onto your main screen (desktop.)

Don says:

I have the LG enV Touch & have not been able to figure out if the phone can be put on speaker phone mode without opening it. Does anyone know whether the phone can be put on speaker phone & have it closed?

Jessica says:

Sorry Don… only in open mode. We fussed with that for a couple of hours and finally read that it’s only in open.

CarlyD says:

Speaker mode can be enabled w/phone closed…after a call is made, the dial pad activates, then touch the square white menu on the bottom right corner, the ’speaker on’ option is there.

Sammi says:

so on my env touch the arrow thats supposed to be on the right side of the main screen is stuck in the top left corner. does ne one know how to fix it?

S says:

Yes! I have the same problem with the arrow stuck in the top left corner! Just happened today. How to fix?

Jeannie says:

Enjoy your Env touch. I loved mine, then alltel sold to Verizon and I had to switch companies…and now I can’t get one cause AT & T doesn’t have them.

Jeannie says:

Can one be unlocked to use on AT & T?

Stacy says:

I want to put audio books on my Touch but when i sync them the file names change and nothing is in numerical order like i have in in my media player. anyone know how to keep the file names from changing?
thank you!

Wow.. lots of comments on here! Ha ha… anyway, got another problem here: I own Windows 7 (64-bit) Ultimate Version… of course, the phone came shipped with the USB micro-B cable. So… I bought a bluetooth dongle a couple of months ago or so.. trying to let it communicate between computer and my phone through BitPim software. Well, I’ve tried several comm ports (5, 7, 9, etc…) and none of them works. What gives? I’d like to back up my stuff over Bit Pim in case I lose or someone steals my phone. I’ve also read their help manuals (which they were good), but still doesn’t help me communicate from all communication mediums. Any ideas? Thank you very much! Help is much appreciated! :-D

altang says:

does enV touch has its own wifi? im about to buy my own cellphone

Darrell Brooks says:

Is there a way to set in messages to display the prior message when replying? I hate getting messages a day or two later that just say “Yes”. I would like to see part of the previous message. Any way possible?

Barb says:

I don’t know if there’s a way to set it as a default, but…

When you have the text message open, click on the top right corner and it will drop down a list of options – select “Reply with copy”

If you go to your messages and click on the drop down menu on the top right. Then click on settings, select messages view and choose the Contact option, your text messages will now be organized by contact. So, when you get a new message saying “Yes”, you can now look through the entire conversation of messages between the two of you before you reply. I hope that helps!

Very Unsatisfied says:

Well I have had the enV since June of 09′ & I am very unsatisfied! I have gone through 3 so far because of the glich in the software & one of them the “r” stuck. Now I am waiting for my 4th replacement & I am ready to get rid of this phone!!! I have had a terrible time with it & ready to go to something else!!!

Martha says:

The date and time on the front screen just disappeared, and I don’t know how to get it back on there. I went to the Clock WI setting, but don’t have an external clock setting, just an internal. Any suggestions

sammie says:

i got it and i hate i it was a waist of my money and i had like 4 and they all got messed up it sucks DONT BYE IT its not worth it

Baylee says:

i have had this phone for a few months and its awesome, its simple, but thers alot of things you can do on it! i was very impressed with the grat quality pics BUT one day, right before i needed to record something, i pressed the camera button and it told me ” camera star error” so i took out the battery, turned it off, nothing. nothing i tried worked? im not the only one who has ahd this problem but its very confusing. iv heard that pressing the lens down (becasue its out of place)and by pressing it should work again. For me though, it didn’t. Iv asked everyone i know and cant figur out the answer! any ideas? ( oh and cant go to the verizon store so, yeah)
