A mi me funcionó.

A mi me funcionó.

I had a similar problem (my computer uses Windows XP) - Sony Walkman beeps a couple times when I insert the USB Cable that connects it, like it is connecting, but it does not charge or is not found by Windows Media Player. In my case, the way I fixed it was to:
1, Go into Control Panel
2. Double Click 'System' ICON
3. Select Hardware Tab
4. Select Device Manager
5. Select 'View' at the Top
6. 'Devices by Type' AND 'Show Hidden Devices' should be selected
7. 'Scroll down to 'Portable Devices' and open it up.
8. My Sony Walkman was there with and Exclamtion point ( ! ) in a yellow circle,
9. Right Click on this yellow exclamation point.
10, Select 'UNINSTALL'
11. Once the computer says 'Device has been Uninstalled, Disconnect your Walkman's USB cable then reconnect.
12. At this point, my Walkman was recognized by my computer, started charging, and was recognized by Windows Media Player

MTP Fix for Sony WALKMAN: infernal's USB fix worked for me fine. For those who need an MTP fix here is a link to the MTP DRIVER wpdmtp_hw.inf file.

http://www.tech-archive.net/Archive/WinXP/microsoft.public.windowsxp.music/2007-05/msg00011.html

Now you can manually reinstall MTP, reboot, after which WMP 11 recognized my Sony for syncing files although the Sony Media Manager does not detect it. Did have to go into the WMP11 library menu area then re-plug in the walkman for it to be detected.

For those using as a USB device: The RealPlayer free version worked on an old Sony I had setup as a USB device years ago, and was simple to use so might explore that again if WMP11 is difficult.

Have the same MTP problem not detected Samsung MP3 player which after the MTP driver reinstall at least now says "connected". No longer recognized by Windows as a Samsung YP-U3 device but does show up as an MTP device now but still not recognized by the Samsung Media Studio software.

Comparing my samsung which is great for such a tiny device I take to the gym, its the size of a pack of gum, doing all basic functions well but the SONY NWZ-A728 sounds INCREDIBLE and I know the Samsung has good sound from other friends opinions. Very impressed with my Sony so far and hope it is as durable as the banged around Samsung.

Infernal thanks to you have a fully functioning Walkman. Was dead before your USB advice. Hope this helps someone else or gives them other options to explore.

Thanks to Infernal, I've managed to update the WALKMAN device to a USB instead of a MTP device.
I only have the USB cable for this device and when it says "FULL" in the battery icon, I disconnect the device and the darn thing won't turn on.
Could it be a battery problem? I haven't used the player in a long while.
Thanks in advance.

Uncle - Have you found a solution yet? I have the exact same problem as you. I've had the NWZ-S618 for 5 mths, all fine, and now my computer says USB device not recognized. It won't charge and it won't connect to the computer. It makes the MP3 player pretty much USELESS!!! I'll be throwing it back at the retailer at this stage.

There's no reason to turn off the screen while charging - it doesn't waste any battery. As far as I know, there's no way to do this in the first place, so don't worry about it :)
