LG VX9900 (enV) – Verizon 533
The long wait is finally over. The LG VX9900 (aka LG enV), an upgrade to the popular VX9800, has finally arrived. Skatter Tech readers are in luck since Verizon Wireless was kind enough to send us a unit a few days before the launch. With a ton of new features, a new body, new interface, and a reasonable price tag, the phone has definitely met our expectations.
The phone looked quite big at first since we recently spent time reviewing the Motorola KRZR and LG VX8600, but according to the specs is actually much sleeker and shorter than the original “The V” phone. In terms of basic features, the LG enV (pronounced “envy”) features an impressive 2MP camera w/ flash, microSD expansion, stereo speakers, bluetooth, a full QWERTY keyboard, and standard V Cast Music/Video functions. This phone might just be Verizon’s “best phone of the year”.
LG VX9900 Specifications:
- Provider: Verizon Wireless (1.9GHz CMDA)
- Form Factor: Laptop-like w/ QWERTY keyboard
- Dimensions: 4.64H x 2.08W x 0.78D (inches)
- Weight / Battery: 4.6oz / 4hrs 30mins talktime
- Screens: External 128×160 & Internal 240×320
- Digital Camera: 2 megapixel camera and camcorder
- Storage: ~50MB internal + microSD (2GB max)
- Others: Bluetooth 1.2 + Stereo Speakerphone
- Price: $150 with a new 2-year contract
LG enV Body: 4/5 stars
Although the VX9900 is larger and very block-like compared to most flip phones, it’s still more compact than the VX9800. The phone can not be placed upright since all sides are rounded or even placed down on its back properly since the camera bulges out. The inside of the phone is designed quite well and everything is where it should be. The keyboard keys are backlit and spreadout. Overall the phone is a bit bulky for average users and isn’t the best looking phone, but size and looks can be thrown out considering the features it has packed inside.
Displays: 4.5/5 stars
The outside display (65K 128×160 px) is a way too small, but luckily the enlarged interface allows access to most required functions. The internal display (262K 240×320 px) is pretty bright and the colors are just stunning. It’s one of the best displays we’ve seen in a while.
Music Playback: 5/5 stars
The VX9900 support playback of unprotected MP3 and WMA files plus purchased V Cast Music. Music can be browsed by Artists, Albums, Genre, or Songs, similar to iPods. A neat addition is “Music Only Mode” which disables incoming/outgoing calls limiting the phone to just a Mp3 player to save battery life. Although the music player takes a few seconds to load, with the right setup music can be started in just 2 clicks.
Speakers: 4.5/5 stars
The enV has dual speakers for stereo surround, which makes music sound a whole lot better. Even when the volume is loud, the sound is still clear. The phone also utilizes the same speakers for calls, making it probably the best speaker phone we’ve used. The only downside is that, since the speakers are on the inside, they only sound good when the phone is open.
Digital Camera: 5/5 stars
The enV features a 2 megapixel camera which can snap shots up to 1600×1200 px. The images are bright, clear, and crisp, which is pretty good for a camera phone. (click to enlarge sample) The camcorder can record up to 1 hour clips at 320×240 px, but only 15 second clips can be mailed. Photos can be taken with the phone closed and held sideways like a traditional camera, but can also be taken using the larger internal display when open. Since the cam is on the back, the outside display turns on for self-portraits when flipped open. Other than that the phone also has a mechanical lens cover, flash, night shot, self-timer, and some extra effects.
Interface: 5/5 stars
We have to congratulate VZW for finally giving the interface a huge make over. The ugly red bars and menus are gone! The new “communicator” style has a new layour, soothing blue colors, and some animated items. However the important internal menus are still organized the same way as regular VZW phones. Some items in the main menu seem misplaced, but it isn’t a big issue. VZW has also included another style which is very similar to the classic theme, but with new icons/colors.
MicroSD: 4/5 stars
Music can be transfered to the phone using the “Sync” feature, however we were unable to do so since Verizon hasn’t released the USB cables or drivers yet. (check back for that) We instead directly copied the music onto the microSD card using an extra card reader/writer. Card access is easy, it is right under a flap on the right-side. Update: We got our Music Essentials Kit, but there are still some bugs. When syncing with Windows Media Player 11, the software keeps detecting the phone as a new device each time it’s plugged in. (auto-sync won’t work) We were also unable to get the Album Art to display on the phone, which worked perfectly with the KRZR. Card Reader/Writer Users: Format the card in your phone first. Folders for music, flix, and pics will be created. Finally just place the proper files into the correct folders.
Bluetooth: 5/5 stars
The Bluetooth (v1.2) on the enV now supports many new profiles, which include: headset (mono), hands free (ex. car), data modem, stereo speakers, image printing, contact cards, file transfer, and wireless keyboard. Supports saving up to 20 different device “pairings”.
Overall we would recommend this phone for people who take a lot of photos, heavy email users, music listeners, and “computer geeks”. If you usually only use your phone for making calls I’d suggest finding a smaller phone, which you will definitely appreciate more. If you do plan to get it, it will be available in stores and online starting Monday, November 27, 2006. If you are a current Verizon customer and are eligible for the every two year upgrade, the phone can be yours for as low as $50 + tax. However it will cost new customers signing up for a 2 year contract $150. New customers can get the phone for FREE after a Mail in Rebate online. (link below) For the features this phone has its an extremely good deal.

this is an awesome review – really helpful, thorough, concise. I have been doing a lot of research prior to buying my new phone and you just sealed the deal for me! thanks.
I got this phone on 11-25-06. I can’t believe all the features. The phone officially drops today 11-27-06, and all ready 4 and 5 stars only… awesome!!!!!!! Still looking forward to getting that 2GB micro card for music and movies… hopefully in the future some upgrade software will allow it support Word, Excel, and Powerpoint; buy if not, I am extremely happy with my enV!!!!!!
I am so looking forward to this phone! there is one drawback to my excitement. Does this phone allow for the option of using something from “your sounds” for a ringer? I have been using a chocolate and a samsung a930 and am pleased with what i can do ringer wise with both of those, but the 9800 did not support that will the envy?
How is the reception (RF) compared to others. I currently have an e815, but I live in a good coverage area.
I just got the enV last night and i am extremly happy. The only problem is the bluetooth it will not let me share ring tones with my friend who has a (cingular phone the Razr) the ring tones are not protected or anything they are the ones he creates in his computer. He shares them with my other friends but for some odd reason his phone did not want to transfer his ringtone to my phone. Does any one know how to fix this problem. I am thinking that it will only let me share ring tone with other Verizon phones but none of my friends have Verzion they have Cingualr or Tmobile. Also does anyone know if there will be updates on this phone to fix the minor bugs on the phone that I am not aware of yet?
Emmanuel,
From what I have heard, the ringtones are NOT transferable, no matter what carrier. MP3 files are, but not ring tones. They are stored in separate places on the phone.
i am thinking about picking up this phone tomorrow, is the head phone jack standard size or is it smaller??
I am in the process of deciding which phone to purchase. The enV or Chocolate.
But my question is, I have music downloaded on my computer but everything requires MP3 music files for cell phones. Is there a way that I can convert what I have to MP3 files?????? I am mainly wanting to use them as ringtones or is that possible???? I am new to the music portions of both the cells phones(mines a dinosaure) and the computer. Im sure you all are dumb founded by my question but had to ask anyway.
I’m very interested….any thoughts on how it compares as an email device to the sidekick 3 from T-Mobile?
Emmanuel, you can’t send ringtones from you phone because Verizon has disabled that feature bluetooth feature, known as the “OBEX” profile. In addition, your friend (or anyone else for that matter) cannot send you a ringtone. However, other bluetooth profiles are still included on the phone such as those that allow for hands-free devices. However, your friend can send ringtones to and from his phone (as well as pictures and video) because Cingular has not blocked the profile required to do so.
Q: Can I use music for ringtones?
A: I may be wrong, but I was unable to use MP3s as ringtones
Q: How is the RF reception?
A: I compared it to the Samsung a930, RAZR v3m, LG VX7000, and Blackberry. All phones in the same spot and same direction. The enV had the best signal.
Q: Will there be any firmware updates soon?
A: Usually within a month average. If you have any issues call and check with Verizon. If by chance there is an update, please let us know!
Q: What type of headphone jack?
A: It doesn’t have a standard iPod-like headphone jack. You will need to purchase an adapter to use with your current headphones or purchase special ones made specifically for this phone. (adapter is cheapest solution) Another ($$$) option is to purchase bluetooth headsets.
I am an avid Treo user, but am very impressed with the full-feature set of this phone. However, I must have the ability to sync with Outlook, primarily just contacts and calendar (not email). I need this to be done via USB, is this possible on the enV?
Thanks! Jason
Hey, this review was excellent, but one question… if I have the current model LG VX9800, and I have a Mini SD card, does this phone only take the “micro SD”? Or does mini SD work on it as well?
Thanks! Antonio P.
Antonio… only the microSD will work… Fry’s Electronics sales 1GB for around 40.00. VZW sales 2GB microSD cards for about 100.00. No way the mini will fit the 9900. The microSD card is almost the size of thumb nail… I saw one yesterday at VZW store. You actually need to use an adapter to use in a card reader. That thing is tiny… I plan on waiting awhile and hope they will drop to under 80 bucks.
Admin Edit: Sandisk 1GB MicroSD $38 (Amazon)
Thanks for taking the time to answer questions. I want to get this phone but have a few questions. Can I use this phone to give my mac EVDO access? What do I need to make sure my plan has to keep that data access from consuming minutes? Does AIM use txts as opposed to being unlimited? I use gmail; how does the phone work with email? Thanks again.
I can’t wait to purchase this phone tomorrow!
Hi. I own the LG VX9800. What are the differences betweeen the LG VX-9800 and the LG VX-9900? It seems to me that there are quite a few more advantages on the “enV” than “The V”; so… I might get the enV next year or so (because I think my contract is up by early ’07), if it has some advantages over “The V.” However, “The V” is still a good phone for people who text a lot or whatever. Just a thought to see what you guys and gals think, like comparison and contrast.
Will this also work for BitPim in a future release? That’s what I use to transfer stuff between my computer and my phone over a bluetooth item (dongale?).
Here is a link to what looks like an official Verizon Wireless document. The last page lists some differences between the V and the enV.
http://stadium.weblogsinc.com/engadget/videos/PDF/VX9900.pdf
Hi. Thanks for your reply. However, do you have any tips and tricks for the LG VX9800 (The V), if you own one? For example, on some websites, such as http://www.mobiledia.com/, http://www.phonearena.com/, and some others… they talk about using the 000-0000 setting to access some features, like changing the MOD/music setting, and stuff. Will that harm “The V”? I also found out that I could find my location via GPS (not buying a GPS item) while doing this setting. If that is possible, how does one do it without harming one’s “The V”? Does this above statement apply for “The enV”, as well?
Again, thanks for the reply and everything. :)
I tried this phone and it’s great overall, but the email functions are completely inadequate. On the Sidekick III, if someone sends you an email, it ends up in your Inbox almost instantly. With the enV, the email functionality isn’t integrated with the rest of the UI very well (relies too much on being a “Get It Now” service) and the most often it can check messages is once and hour. If you went to manually check for new emails (which is inconvenient for people who ride the subway… it’s better that the device is always checking emails so that you’re able to view the latest ones when you go underground and are out of service), the “syncing” takes a while compared to the Sidekick. For that reason, I would NOT recommend this as a Sidekick (or Blackberry…) replacement. As far as I know, the Internet is also limited compared to the Sidekick’s and IMing people also not as seamless as it is with the Sidekick.
I currently have the Verizon PocketPC (xv6700) and am sooo disappointed in its performance. The battery life is absolute garbage and it doesn’t seem to consistently send and receive e-mails.
I’m thinking about trying the enV instead, but it sounds like it’s lacking in the business/communications areas (e-mail service and software usage) I’d really like to be able to view Word, Excel, PDF files. Does anyone have recommendations on a RELIABLE replacement?? I hear the Blackberry 7130e isn’t a good choice either.
Thanks!
Kristin
does the mp3 player work w/ mac computers? i have a 2 yr. old mac powerbook w/ windows media player.
Q: Does IM client charge as TXT messages?
A: Yes, each message sent/received counts as 1 txt.
Q: Will it support BitPim in the future?
A: Not sure, check with HowardFourms for Info.
Q: Will the “secret” menus damage my phone?
A: Doing those “hacks” will probably not damage it permanently, but can mess up internal settings. To fix it you will probably need to ask Verizon to re-flash your phone with the original software. I suggest you don’t mess with it unless you know what you are doing.
Q: Should I get this instead of a Blackberry?
A: Probably not. The email client on this is very primitive. It has been designed as an extra feature and not really built for heavy usage. Also Verizon will charge about $25 for every 10MB of data sent/received. This is not exactly the best deal. Blackberry is much better for heavy email users.
Q: Will this work with Macs?
A: You will need Windows Media Player 10 or above, which Macs do not have. However you can still copy music and other files directly to the MicroSD using a card reader/writer.
Great reviews. I intend to buy one this week. Question? I have MP3s on my computer. Can I transfer them to the phone or do I need to purchase a service. What do I need to transfer them?
ok so just so we are clear, if you are using something like freeringers.net, where you can send a mp3file to the phone and save it as a ringtone, that can not happen on the 9900? the chocolate will….i really hope the 9900 will as well
Can you use the speaker phone as a speaker phone when the phone is closed? Not stereo quality, just voice quality. I use my speaker on my a930 every day.
Very nice review!!! I can do the new every two tomorrow (Dec 1) and having this phone popup now is perfect.
I really enjoyed this review. I am going to get this phone ASAP
i had already (almost) decided to get the envy and this review cinched it. i am a heavy pda user and see an opportunity use both hands to drive. and the pda gps function to get me there. voice dial, speaker phone appointments and contacts are most important to me, if i can’t sync with outlook i will just manually enter the info.. one point of interest with verizon. i have been a customer for several years, my new every 2 plan expires on 12-3 they will not let me renew. get the new phone, even one day early. i even went from “please” to “i’m going to change carriers” nothing worked .. so any suggestions for customer service reviews, or don’t waste my time .. as a matter of fact i have 3 phone plans “so what” was the attitude
thanks
tom
hi this is for all the people with env i was wondering is the internet same at sidekicks internet and is there AIM and if there is does that charge as textx or go under the vcast plan
I don’t own the enV…yet…but I can tell you that the internet uses mobile web 2.0, with the Openwave browser tht is on most cell phones.
And, as with all Verizon phones, all messages sent and received in AIM and the other IM services available, are charged as txt messages.
My only question (and yes, i know it sounds petty) is can you get rid of the red verizon bar that goes across the top and bottom of the screen??? I can’t stand these bars and I know that with the lg vx9800 you can get rid of them….. anyone have any ideas? this will be my deciding factor between the vx9800 and vx9900. Thanks!
Yes…You can get rid of the red bars…actually…I don’t even think they are an option…There are two themes, the Communicator theme which is kind of a grey-ish turquoise, and uses icons for the main menu screen instead of tabs and lists…and there is the VZW theme which instead of the old red bars, uses black bars, and the normal tabbed menu system.
Here is a link with some screens of both themes…
Howard Forums – LG VX9900: Pictures of the phone
Just scroll down near the bottom and you’ll see a long post with pictures of each theme.
I got the enV yesterday, and it is by far the best phone I’ve used in a while. The only problem I’ve encountered so far is with a game I downloaded (Massive Snowboarding) forces it to restart and sometimes flash an Arrow into a Slot? Icon. Does the game require more memory than the phone can provide? If anyone else encounters this give me a shout. In terms of mac compatibility, if you have a newer Mac it should be Bluetoothy, and I’m currently syncing over an MP3. Hopefully itll play, in which case the only downside to mac/enV pairings will be the slow (6KB) transfer speed…
I got this phone yesterday and absolutly loved it! Texting and the camera are great! The only problem was when i tried to have long conversations on it. The reception is horrible! Is anyone else having this problem? My old phone sounded fine, but when I use this one the calls are filled with static. My friends can tell the difference too, complaining about the static they were picking up from my phone. It says I have 3 bars & I’m using in the same locations as the old phone. I haven’t seen any other complaints about this though…
salim…I’ve had that same problem with some games on my 9800…just call Verizon and they will tell you to delete the game (and they can tell…so don’t try to keep it anyway haha) and they will give you a credit for the game on your bill. I think it is just a glitch in the game that they generally find out about and fix for later buyers. I don’t know if they provide updates for the games to those who have already bought them.
Michelle…I have not heard of people experiencing bad, static-y reception. I have only heard of people having fewer bars show up than other verizon phones in the same spot, however, they still get the same sound quality as the others. You should maybe call Verizon…it might be an internal problem with your particular phone.
I bought this phone yesterday as a phone/PDA replacement, interested primarily in synching my Outlook contacts and calendar. I could do that via Bluetooth with my Palm Tx and laptop computer; looks like I can only send vCards to the computer via bluetooth, if I want to sync I have to subscribe to the Verizon Wireless Sync product, which I don’t think will go over with the IT and security guys here. Direct connection is one thing, third party server is entirely different. Can anyone tell me if it’s possible to sync contacts and calendar via Bluetooth, and if so, how? I like the phone otherwise, would rather keep it!
Mike,
I don’t think that it is possible to sync mail via bluetooth…
Bummer! Do you know if I could use a USB cable to plug in and sync up? I’m okay with not getting e-mail delivered in real time, as long as I can bring my contacts and calendar across once or twice a day.
Mike…
Using a program called BitPim, you can import your Outlook Calendar and contacts into BitPim, and then send them to the phone.
BitPim is a free program used for transferring files to and form phones. You can google it to find it fairly easily. However, this won’t fix the actual email issue, just the calendar and contacts.
Oh, and you will need to set the phone type to vx9800 for now, which will work just fine, until they update the program to include the new vx9900.
Hi. I was wondering what are the advantages and disadvantages while using the 000-0000 #? Will one be charged for dialing that #? And, I’ve seen on some forums that one can hack a phone, such as getting a VZ Navigator for free, rather than getting billed however $xx.xx/month. Now, when a person either hacks and/or uses the 000-000 #, then what will happen to one’s phone (LG VX-9800 or LG VX-9900, as an example)? Thanks!
It is possible to get email via the “email” button (it works through the internet access). However, I don’t think there is a true synchronization. If you want that, you need a PDA or smart phone which, of course, need more expensive rate plans for full capability.
Very interested in the phone.
Does anyone know the answer to this. I got my memory card and added music and pictures to it. The pictures showed up on the phone but the mp3′s and wma’s are no where to be found. Do you have to have the music essentials kit to transfer/play your own music(non Vcast music) on this phone or is there a way to put music on the memory card and just play them??? I hope I can play all my music I alreay have, I don’t want to download all new from Vcast. THANKS FOR ANY HELP .%&
First off…check to see how long the file names are…if they are very long this can prevent them from showing up.
But also…Try syncing them to the phone using Windows Media 10 (or the new 11). Maybe you just can’t drag and drop them into the folders anymore like you could with the 9800 and other phones.
I just bought the Lg VX9900 today, and from what i saw so far, it is a spectacular phone! I love everything about it. I reccomend you to check it out!
[Comment ID #8953 Will Be Quoted Here]
Jason, Did you figure out how to access your outlook yet? I am trying different approaches but nothing has worked yet.
Thanks,
Kevin
Got mine today! So far I’m liking!!
Q: Do I need to pay for music?
A: Music purchased from places such as iTunes will not work, since they have DRM. But CD ripped tracks (or downloaded mp3s) without DRM will work just fine.
Q: How do I transfer music to the phone?
A: Two options. First option, purchased the Music Essentials Kit ($30). Best option for those who don’t know much about computers. It will include CD with software, USB Cable, and stereo headphones. Second option use a SD Card Reader/Writer to manage files. Read the instructions in our review to create the proper folders.
Q: Can I use my own Ringtones?
A: Verizon has blocked the tones so you have to purchase it from their store. There are some work arounds, check HowardFourms.com for more info.
Q: Can I sync Outlook via Bluetooth?
A: The phone doesn’t support it. Only way is to use Verizon’s expensive Wireless Sync. BitPim.com has software to manage contacts, but no support for this phone just yet.
sahas…
You can use BiPim for this phone…You just have to set it for 9800 instead of 9900 until they make an update to include it…because as far as what BitPim does, all of the features are the same between the two phones.
Hi i was wondering if you can put full length movies on this phone and if you can how? thanks!!!
Does anyone know what the cost is to go on the internet per month.
Okay, I just ordered this phone (and I plan to go pick it up tonight at the FedEx counter). I’m switching from a Treo 600 – just didn’t need everything. I used the Treo mostly for calls and emails with the occasional text message (surfing the net was just about impossible and useless – and not a necessity at all) – and I’m looking forward to the mp3 capabilities of the enV.
I read that email is cumbersome – I’ve never had “real-time” email. Will the email on enV bother me?
Also, I thought if you subscribed to Vcast you had email usage included in that price and wouldn’t have to pay anything else for Kbs. Am I wrong in this assumption (cause of course you know what “assuming” makes you and me)?
I have this phone and love it. However, the need to change the way the phone is charged. I can see using the port to transfer music, images etc. But, you don’t use that feature everyday. So the port wouldn’t get as much use as the charge port would. LG need to take a look at the way Motorola charges their phones.
I got the phone just a few days ago. For anyone wanting to put ring tones on it. Its very possible w/ BitPim, ref. previously. It’s and awesome phone and well worth upgrading from the 9800.
Just a note, using the latest ver. of bitpim i was able to transfer over 200 ringtones, using the profile for the vx8500 – Chocolate Phone. Not the 9800. The upgrades to the OS on the phone resemble the newer generation of phones, not the 9800.
So If that helps anyone Great! Its an awesome phone. I already had a ton of ringtones on my old phone! Only thing I noticed that I was bummed about -> You cant set ringtones for each person on the txt messaging..unless im doing something wrong.
I got the enV and the music essentials kit. It was a nightmare to get the software installed properly. I finally noticed that the vCast web site has new software (on the left side of the page). I downloaded and installed that and was able to transfer music to the phone. The problem I have now is with the headphones. They have a silver button in the middle where the two earphone wires come together. I have to keep squeezing this button for the music to come out the earphones. My brother has this same problem. Does anyone have earphones that just work?, or a fix for this?
question on Navigator with the enV….when i hit talk to hear the navigation the sound is barely audible in a moving car…the volume is set to maximum…anyone else encounter this problem?
anyone find a case for the enV the allows you to use without taking the phone out?
I was at the verizon store tonight and they confirmed that there is a bug with the 9900 and the wired stereo headset. I too experienced the problem with the headset and the only way to have the sound pass through is by depressing the button. They said hopefully the next sw update will fix this problem.
I am also having a problem with getting my mp3s to appear on my menu. I transferred them to my micro SD and initially they appeared but the next time they were all gone. Im going to try and reformat my card to see if that helps. anyone experience the same problem? Minor issues but I really like this phone.
Headset: I am glad to hear that the headset problem is a known bug that should get fixed. I am amazed at how poor their testing was. They also shipped completely broken “Essentials” software.
I also need to find a usable line-out cable, so that I can output to my car stereo. Bluetooth?
Songs on the menu: I had problems after re-syncing. I added a song and dropped two songs. Then tried to play music with the phone closed using the up arrow on the outside display. It gave me errors on the songs. I then opened the phone and used the inside display. The correct songs were there with no errors.
Navigation Sound: I used it today in the car. I had it open. It was quite easy to hear the directions. I have to figure out a pad or bracket to hold it on the dash. I am VERY happy with the navigation. The GPS seems to work indoors as well! My only complaint on the navigation is that if you switch to the map, it doesn’t switch back to the directions by itself when it is time to make a turn. My Garmin GPS does this, but doesn’t say the street names. Not a big deal.
Hmmmmm. No comments on my post about the 000-0000 # setting? C’mon, guys. I just wanna know what the advantages/disadvantages are w/o harming or damaging “The V” (LG VX9800). Thank you.
i was wondering how the battery life was on the enV. i am an avid texter and i purchased the vsw razr and the battery life is just crap. i am thinking of purchasing the env on hopes that its larger battery will do the trick.
collen,
i’ve been using the env for about a week now and i’ve been able to go almost 2 complete days at a time without recharging. I’ve been texting downloading songs via vcast playing songs etc. So i’m happy so far with the standard battery.
Wow Great! thank you so much kevin.
Does anyone have info on an ssh/term client for this gizmo?
Regarding using MP3′s as a ring tone for the LG enV phone, info here: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1062375
you need BITPIM vx9900 cable or if you have BT on your computer.
download BITPIM: it is very user friendly.
I beleive the first time you open it up you need to go to VIEW and check VIEW FILESYSTEM
click on filesystem and it will appear on the middle of the screen.
open the tree and you will find brew: open that then 16542 then lk then you have the mr folder “my ringtones”

Hey I would like to ask a question, I have a dilemma; To either get the EnV or the Chocolate, I was thinking about the Vx 8600 also. Which phone should I get? I am getting texting for the first time for the unlimited messenges to verizon to verizon and 500 anywhere else. What phone is better for some texting often, phone calls, and music. PLease respond here or email me at yankeesrock10935@aol.com preferbly before 12/18/06
In the S.E. Arizona area at least, all the phones (I’ve had two now) come with obsolete software, and it is necessary to do the *228 update to update both the roaming profile as well as phone software or the manual will not describe the functioning properly. FYI
Jake…
If you plan to text often, the enV is the way to go…for one obvious reason…the QWERTY keyboard. It will take some time to get used to if you are used to texting on a # keypad, but once you do, it is much easier and faster.
Also, I have noticed that most people who buy the Chocolate get rid of it before that first 15 days is up. I’m not entirely sure why, but I’ve noticed the pattern. Most people either replace the chocolate with either the enV or the 8600. But if you want texting, phone calls, and mp3 capabilities all rolled into one..the enV is the way to go.
I plan on hopefully buying this phone, but now I’m skeptical about the music…you guys say the earphones are faulty because you have to hold down some button? I don’t really get how that works. And is it convenient to download ripped music using the Music Essentials Kit onto the phone?
1 more question actually, for the unlimited internet and VCast usage, is it $15/ month? If I first buy a family plan (my enV being a part of it), can I later upgrade and add that option of the unlimited internet?
thanks,
-Mary
I have the 9800, it’s the best phone in the world but I bought it a couple months ago, Without a doubt I would tell you to buy this phone. With a USB cord (from ebay), a program called BITPIM and fun secrets you can find on the web – You can turn it into a little gamer phone, ringtone phone, mp3 player or whatever (really cool). The design is a bit squarish so if you are into the whole square egg look, get it…The 9800 has alot of the same options, only real difference is the built in cameras.
Mary, V Cast costs you 15 bucks a month, Normal Internet only costs 5 dollars. If you plan on downloading/purchasing things like News Clips n Stuff then do the 15 dollar one, otherwise Its a stupid waste of money. I have the five buck one and I’m fine.
Jake, The ENV is THEE phone for Talking (awesome speaker phone), Music (loud speakers) and a keyboard for really quick texting, You can txt using the front of the phone still, it’s like having two interfaces.
Battery life was 4.5 hours of talking and 19 hours of standby….For the Env.
How much is Vcast, and is it worth it?
Andrew, thank you so much!
I’m definately just going for the 5 dollar one =)
[Comment ID #10016 Will Be Quoted Here]
Vcast & Internet together is 15, and like I said only internet is worth it..
What is BITPIM and can it mess up your phone?
HELP! I love this phone – love it! I left a Treo 600 for it and wouldn’t have it any other way.
BUT, I was using BITPIM and tried to transfer ringtones to my phone. Somehow something went wrong – now I have sounds on my phone I cannot erase – I get an error. But they also don’t play AND they are taking up all my memory. Anyone have any idea what to do?
Hi…..I got my new 9900 the other day and love it so far, I have a heard a little static like some others have been saying, but nothing is as bad as the nextel I had before, so i don’t mind….BUT…I am having serious problems with getting videos to play on the phone, they are on my memory card under my-flix, and they say they are sync’ing but I cant play them on the phone, or even find where they are stored (I was assuming my videos, but, nope) Anyone else having issues with this, or know what to do to fix it?
Let me start by asking…What format are the videos that you are trying put on the phone? They need to be 3gp or mp4 videos.
I cannot get my own mp3′s on this phone to play through the media player whatsoever. I can transfer files into all folders created on the sd card but none of them show up in the player. The only way I can play them is to put them into the mysounds folder and then play them through the mysounds option. This sucks. I have tried every folder and even tried to create my own folder called sdmusic with no luck. Any suggestions on this and possibly how to sync via bluetooth? I got my wife the chocolate and I cant even transfer files via bluetooth on it.
Are songs in itunes considered mp3′s or WMA’s. For i really want this phone, but half the reason i want it is to use it as a portable music player. How can i get the music from my computer that i btw transferred from my CD’s to my computer onto my enV and is it possible. Please get me an answer to this dilemma ASAP, thankx!
ok. when i first saw this phone i wanted it REALLY badly. i have spent so many hours on so many forums it might be an obbession. i have heard LOTS of great things about it. but also a lot of not so good things. things that i dont care about is the size, external screen, how it doesnt lay flat, and the flash not being very good. i dont think that speakerphone inly working while open will bother me either. but i heard that you have to shut off your music if you’re going to email. is this true? how much does the screen size bother everyone else? is the enternet really worth it and can you access myspace? for the email will MCHSI work? im just not sure about this phone anymore. please reply someone.
This is a great phone and for those who are debating between the $5 2.0 mobile web vs. the $15 Vcast pak, Im pretty sure the VCast pak has unlimited airtime where the 2.0 mobile web uses your minutes. I’d check for sure with Verizon but I think thats what they said.
One problem Im experiencing is when trying to format my Micro SD, it asks me for an unlock code. Ive tried every number I can imagine but I can’t get in. Anyone have this issue? Thanks
I have been doing hours of research. im with tmobile and i really dont like it. i been researching the enV a lot. most reviews say the quality and sounds are way better than the sidekick 3. Its overall a better phone. im switching just to get this phone. for christmas im paying of mobile and getting the enV. my friend has the sidekick 3 and i kinda like it but not really. if the enV would work on its looks it would blow out the sidekick 3 in sells. thats all people say good about the sidekick 3. im getting the ENV.
Travis: Getting the music on. I used the vcast muisic essentials software (from the web site) and the USB cable that comes in the music essentials kit to load mp3s onto the phone. It worked. You might want to try that, then pull the memory card and see where the mp3s are.
Headphones: Has anyone got the music essentials headphones to work without holding the button? Verizon has been giving me the run-around. One rep told me to find another store that has the LG music essentials kit in stock, and have them open it up and try the headphones. I haven’t had a chance to try that.
One thing I did discover while I was at the VZ store, was about the tiny headphone-like jack on the side of the phone. That appears to be a line-out. I was able to plug a pair of large headphones into the jack. The stereo speakers cut off, and I could quietly hear the music coming out of the headphones. It’s possible that I didn’t properly set the volume (master volume didn’t make much difference), but it seems like it is just line-out. By the way, this jack is smaller than a standard mini stereo jack you would see on iPod headphones. Note that the music essentials headphones plug into the bottom of the phone, where you would plug in the charger, not this jack.
Memory card: My brother and I got 2GB Corsair micro sd flash cards. His card works. I put mine in the enV without turning the phone off. It seemed to work. I moved 3 pictures onto it, and then tried to transfer some music on. That failed with something like insufficent space. I checked the space free and it said 0/0 free. The card was no longer being recognized, and the 3 pictures I moved are now lost. I put the card into my laptop with the sd adapter and the laptop won’t recognize it either. The phone won’t format the card, a razr won’t either. This may be your warning to turn the phone off before putting in the memory card. So far bad luck all around trying to use this phone for mp3s: headphones and memory card that don’t work.
Camera: The built-in camera is VERY slow to take a picture. It takes 5 seconds after you push TAKE. Then you have to push “Save”, and it takes several more seconds to do that. It also likes to lose pictures you have pushed “SAVE” on. I lost several pictures from the Getty Villa today.
Navigation & Keyboard: LOVE IT. This is the killer app for this phone. It is extremely easy to enter an address or store name using the keyboard. The GPS and navigation work extremely well. I have an older Garmin GPS, but the phone does a better job. It speaks the name of the upcoming street. I have been just leaving the phone open to hear the speakers, and setting it in my lap while I drive. I only have to listen to the directions. I plan to make some kind of holder on the dash for it.
The headphones that I got with my music essentials kit plug into the mini-jack port on the right side of the phone. Where do your’s plug in? And I don’t have to hold the button down…When I press and hold the button, it opens up the “All calls” list on the phone and if I press it again it calls the selested contact/number. Also, if someone calls, I press and hold the button to answer the call.
Also, the volume coming thru the headphones is painfully loud with music, and this is on the lowest volume setting. Also, I have a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter and have used it with my normal headphones…still painful to listen to.
The headphones I got plug into the bottom of the phone. The kit has a sticker on the top of the box that says “Supports: LG VX8500 & VX8600 phones”. Can you tell me what yours says (sounds like I got the wrong kit)?
Thanks for the info on the 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter. Did that come in your kit? I am going to look for that adapter tomorrow.
High volume: Have you tried changing the earpeice volume in the sounds settings?
Ah…that’s the problem…My music essentials kit says “Supports: LG VX9900 Phone” on the top. Make sure and get THAT one.
And no…The adapter does not come in the kit…I got mine on eBay. They are very cheap on there, but just make sure that you get one that has three rings on the plug itself, if it only has one or two, it will not fit correctly (you would have to wiggle it in and out into just the right spot in order to hear anything…this is because the rings separate the stereo speakers 1 left, 2 right, and 3 the mic.)
Oh, also, I have a 2GB SanDisk micro SD card, and I haven’t had any problem with it at all. I have transferred music, and shot/moved photos and videos.
To do list. Is there any anyway the 9900 will support some kind of to do list? It says PDA functions and I understand the calendar and contact list, but at my age I would be lost without a to do list. Thanks.
To do list: I looked through the “Get new app” section of “Get it now” and didn’t find any To Do list. I am curious to know if there is any third-party software available for this phone. I want a car mileage tracker. I would also love to have a programming language like Python.
got the camera a few days ago and LOVE it!
does anyone that owns the camera find the camera lens rotator to feel somewhat loose?
Still nothing on to do capability. OK anyway I can set appointments with no time? Can’t seem to figure it out. Thanks.
How simple is it to watch video files on this device? Is it as simple as placing an MP4 on a micro SD card and just playing it or is there some particular way these need to be configured. Also, if video files can be played, what is the complete list of file formats the device can decode?
im going to get this enV phone after christmas and i been doing reviews on it and i really like it… i just want to know about all the upgrades for the software and i reaalyy want to know if i can get the full buddy list like the sk3 and also can u tell me how i can browse the web is it fast and all that… i like to check my myspace while im on the road is this phone good for that lol.. thank you i appreciate it
Ya i am wondering the same thing.. also if someone can take a screen shoot of what the AIM display looks like i would greatly appriciate that.
thanks again
Ive had this phone for a week now. I liked your review of it. I did find that you left out one of the best and most useful features I didn’t even know about until after I bought it. The phone gives you step by step directions via gps to anywhere, very easily. I am constantly using this feature to find my way around unfamiliar parts of the city.
sam…Just to make sure…you do know that that will cost you $10/month after the first 14 days right? You will have to repurchase it thru Get it Now.
Does anyone know how to upload games into this phone? What program do I need? Please e-mail me direct. I should know this but I do not. Thank you!
What USB cable and programs do I need to download music to my 9900? Thanks.
What is the deal with the gray button on the earbuds? Why would they design this so that you have to push the button to hear the music through the buds? Does anyone have a solution to the earbud problem?
Okae…
Christopher Holland…To get games on the phone, you HAVE to use Get it Now. There is no other way with Verizon, since they don’t allow the phones to support java.
Bosco…Go to a Verizon store and get the Music essentials kit for the 9900. Or just use a card reader to put music into the microSD’s my_music folder.
chris s…You purchased the wrong music essentials kit…On the top of your box it says for LG VX8500 and one other phone right? And the earbuds plug into the USB/power port correct? You need the music essentials kit that says “Supports: LG VX9900 Phone” on the top flap of the box. Those earbuds plug into the headset jack on the phone. And you won’t have to hold the grey button down…But you can press and hold the grey button for a couple seconds to answer phone calls since it is not just headphones, but a stereo headset (meaning it has a microphone).
I don’t know why but people at Verizon seem to have been giving alot of people the wrong music essentials kits for this phone. Luckily I go the correct one.
Nortisan: yeah I know. besides that fact that there is an easy hack to get it free. I would gladly pay $10 for such a good navigator on my phone. I think such a strong feature could have been mentioned in the review.
haha…I know bout that hack too…to I’m a bit hesitant to try it with a program that is constantly accessing the network. hehe
Like the phone, though outside screen has a small font so you need good eyesight to read time.
Answer to Kirk’s question regarding the Lock Code and formating the Micro SD card. The default lock code is the last 4 digits of your cell phone number. (Verizon’s tech support was most helpful)
This is by far the best phone I’ve ever purchased until I received the bill. Verizon did not advise of all the charges they will add to use the full e-mail synching service. The e-mail and vcast charges are higher than charges for full windows based phones with better internet and e-mail. There are other phones that cost a bit more and have all the features for the same monthly charge. I am very disappointed.
“If you are a current Verizon customer and are eligible for the every two year upgrade, the phone can be yours for as low as $50 + tax.” Where did you find that deal? I can’t find that at Verizon or Car Toys. Is it online?
I am going to get this phone in a few month’s But all my mp3 files are on my mac is there any way that when i get the phone that i could transfer then onto the fone through a memory stick onto the regular pc? Also what is the difference between the V and the Env?
You can transfer all of your files to a microSD flash memory card, as the enV has a microSD slot. There are several differences between the two phones. The V is an older, bulkier version. There is no reason to get the V at this point, as the enV incorporats all of the V’s features, more or less, and is thiner and lighter.
Edit: BTW, if you transfer files to a microSD, be sure to put the card in the phone first so the proper formatting / folder naming can take place.
@Jaime
When the review was written during the launch period of this phone, Verizon was offering it for that price. However now, due to the increase in popularity, they have raised the prices. It will probably cost $100 + tax after the Every 2 Year Upgrade plan. If you are not a customer yet, you can get the phone for FREE (after rebate) through this link.
yeah i have been with verzion for like 2yr now so i have to wait till june to get the env it sux that i have to wait.
I’ve been wanting to get the “EnV” since “The V” came out; well, I thought that my contrat is almost up in a couple of months… but, I found out that my contract isn’t up until next year. So… I’m not a music fan when it comes to downloading music (except for game music). Anyway, I’m a huge text fan, but I’d like to download some games that are air-time free and free software, but… doubt that’d ever happen (which would be nice!).
What are your thoughts or differences between “The V” and the “EnV”? Such an example would be shooting videos and storing them (regardless of length), megapixel comparison (The V = 1.3 MP and EnV = 2 MP), and the like?
I heard that the env is a better phone to have then the v. I iwsh i was getting the env now instead of jne but it’s like 3hundered something just for the phone with out the plan. i use to have the vcast but i got rid of it becuase it was expensive plus the plan i have now. so i am gonna be looking for a cheaper plan at verizon with the unlimited txt messaging and i would the getting the vcast agian for the env. does ne1 recomend ne thing else for the phone?
@William
The enV is LG’s replacement for the ‘V’ There is no reason for anyone to purchase the old phone anymore. The VX-9900 has been improved over its predecessor in literally every single way. The new phone has better battery, slimmer, less weight, better camera/videos, brighter screen and plenty more. P.S. DO NOT spend $300 on this phone! If you can’t upgrade, WAIT. A even newer model should be released by then.
It wants me to agree to a EULA, which LG required Verizon to include on the phone (according to Verizon’s *611 Customer Service), before I send or recieve e-mail from my phone. Is there a way to push Gmail to the phone without agreeing to LG’s EULA?
I got the phone. Looks nice, MP3 plays is excellent, sound quality from incomeing calls: poor. I brought it back, tried another VX9900 and it was the same! lows and high are clipped off, others models sounded fine. but the 9900 sound is poor on the phone calls!!!
I’m considering buying this phone but I’ve got some key questions.
1. Bluetooth Protocols – Can I transfer files to it via bluetooth, specifically ring tones? If I have an .mp3 file on my computer, how can I make that a ring tone on the phone? As I currently understand it, I have to text the ring tone to myself in order to use it as a ring tone. Is there no other way?
2. Jacks – Is there a standard headset jack or will I need an adapter.
I’ve really been frustrated by Verizon’s lack of support for key features that other carries support.
Thanks.
yes i have bought this phone and i love it, but i have a quick question. is there a way to get other themes on the phone in addition to the 2 themes that are already on it
I bought the music essentials kit, but i don’t have windows on my mac…it says it is only compatible with windows xp…how am i going to get music or ringtones on my phone? Edit: for the VX 9900
This review and a few comments indicate that the enV will support a 2GB microSD card. The user guide for the enV says that the max is 1GB. What’s the deal? Is the user guide somehow wrong?
Yes, then the user guide is wrong if it says that…I have a 2GB microSD card in mine right now. And it doesn’t cap it at 1GB like the V did. I am able to use all 2 gigs of it.
Thanks, Nortisan. You using a Sandisk microSD, or another brand? I’ve already ordered a 2GB Sandisk microSD, hopefully won’t have any difficulties with it.
No problem…yeah I’m using a Sandisk, it works great
Hrmm…one more question that may be important…did you format your 2GB Sandisk microSD with the enV, or with your PC?
It needs to be formatted with th enV…so I stuck with that haha
Anyone using the 9900 like a mini PDA? I know it has a calendar function but it doesn’t seem very easy to use. Where do you put tasks/to do’s? I don’t need to edit MS Office documents, but an easy way to use the calendar and a to do list on my 9900 would be great. Any ideas? Thanks.
Anyone know if you can check other people’s away messages while on AIM on the Env?
just got this phone like two days ago and love it. Anyone debating on the chocolate or this I would go with this although it does depend on what you want the phone for. My only complaint is I cannot use my sounds as ringtones but found a way around that sort of. Myxertones.com allows you to take anysong you have on your computer and turn it into a ring tone. They will then send you the ring tone through a pix flix message. The best part is Myxertones is free.
Jenn. No you cannot chechk away messages
Okay. I have the EnV and every single time I loose service it says outloud, “Loss of service”. It’s really obnoxious and I can’t really find anything to tell me how to turn this off. thanks!
I really don’t need a Smartphone with all the extras that entails. But I sure would like an easy way to keep my calendar and a to do list on my 9900. The built in calendar just seems too awkward to use. Too many steps. I tried keeping a to do list on the notes but again, too time consuming.
Any ideas? Any programs you know I can download to help me with this? Anyone figured out an easier way to do this? Thanks for your help.
Okay I currently switch over from the Chocolate to the enV. Chocolate is great for listening to music, but not watching movies. (I set it to widescreen, but the viewing screen is not meant to be view sideways) The enV is great for music, movies and texting. I still think the chocolate looks more stylish, but enV has more function. It looks pretty cool when the phone open up like a micro laptop
Hello! I haven’t been here for a long time! Anyway, I saw that at a Best Buy retail store, it had a price of $100. My eligibility to upgrade for a new phone is still in effect, but my contract hasn’t gone yet (still until end of March of ’08. So… The reason why I like the EnV better is because I can store and shoot videos up to 1 hour as opposed to the V’s 15-sec. limit. And, the MP difference sounds quite reasonable. I still use BitPim to upload my stuff in case my phone (the V) gets lost or stolen.
Most LG phones will not charge after a while!!!
Ryan… what do you mean by that? Do you mean “charge” as in: 1) The battery component of any LG-based mobile phone will not charge after a while; or, 2) They will give out “free” or “no charge” phones based on whatever that is? Can you explain your statement to either me or the rest of the people on this forum? Thank you!
I haven’t had any problems with my old chocolate phone charging it. I try not to overcharge it such as I never leave it charging while I’m sleeping. Also, I unplug the adaptor once I finished my cell phone. This will increase the battery life. I love my enV… I managed to transfer a few movies to it and also downloaded some games. The graphics are surprisely good for games… lolz
I have had 4 LG phones now, and none of them had any problem with charging. And I even charge them overnight while I sleep.
Is there anyway to enter events in the calendar without setting times? Just want to have an all day event.
Thanks
No, You’ll just have to set it from 12am to 11:59pm. And turn the reminder off. (assuming you don’t need to be reminded)
Q:how much does it cost with a 2 yr contract?
If you go through Amazon, it’s $150 up front, but you get $150 back in rebates. You can’t submit the rebates until you receive your third or fourth bill. I’ll let you know how that goes when I try to do it.
How to Use your Own ringtones:
1. Get your mp3 clip (I use garageband) down to 10 or so seconds / 300 kbs.
2. RENAME the mp3 with a .mid extension.
3. Email it to yourself. IE: phone number @ vzwpics.com It will come in like a text, then “Save as ringtone.”
I recently got the enV. I have no complaints. I was informed by the sales associate that sold it to me that the battery has a limited amount of charge cycles before it would stop recharging/ holding a charge. She explained that i should only charge it when i needed to,not try to keep it full at all times because every time you put it on the charger counts as a charge cycle. Whether its put on for fifteen minutes, one hour, or over night it counts as one charge cycle. So, you should try and maxamise the battery life by only charging it when the battery gets low.
Anyhow, I have to say, this phone is quite excellent.
I’m getting confused with this battery recharging for the 9900. I asked and was told that constant recharging every day and leaving it plugged in all night would not decrease battery life. What is the scoop on recharging? Thanks.
Battery life applies to all cell phones, not only En-V. I figured by the time it get charged over 9900 times, I will have a new cell phone by then. I only charged my phone about 2-3 days later and usually charged it during dinner or watching tv. I tried not to charged it while I’m sleeping because the battery will be overcharged it and can decrease the battery life as well.
the phone is ok but the text message limit is ridiculous. 50 sent and 50 received before your box is full? that’s ABSURD. my 8 year old nokia could hold more than that! and this phone is supposed to have text messager’s in mind? please. serious design flaw. is there a hack that can overcome this ridiculous limitation?
batteries:
With Lithium batteries you can charge them at any point during their charged/dead rotation. BUT each time you charge them (5 minutes or 5 hours) counts as a charge cycle. Most of the batteries can have between 400-1200 charge cycles. This also depends on the age of the battery (don’t buy wholesale or ebay batteries. They were probably sitting on a shelf somewhere for a long time), and the temperature of the battery when charging/discharging (don’t use if hot from sitting in sun. don’t charge if you are going to leave it in hot car). That said, if you charge everyday (or more) you will shorten the life of your battery. I’ve seen cell batteries (in general) last between 6 months and 3 or more years.
text limit:
the phone isn’t a fileserver. delete some of your messages. geez.
emailing mp3′s:
when you send mp3′s to vzwpics.com it will automatically convert it to the QCELP format that the phone needs. I believe it will also truncate them to either a certain file size or length. If it is not working for you try making the filename simple. something like ringtone1.mp3 as you can always rename it on the phone. You could also try removing ID3v1 and v2 tags as some times programs don’t add those corectly so it makes mp3′s look corrupt.
you could also look at http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1049282
they always have answers to any cell phone questions there.
What is the charge cyle?
can you set the mp3 songs to be the ringer?
I love this phone! But a simple (?) question: I have the front screen off to save the battery. How do you check the time on the phone without opening it? My old E815 had the time in grey on a black background.
[Comment ID #27141 Will Be Quoted Here]
If you send an email to your phone with a single mp3 attachment via pix place (phonenumber@vzwpix.com) you can then save them as a ringtone. Be warned tho that handsets are very finicky about what mp3s they will play. I’m not sure of the particulars.
So the enV is sweet, I’ve been told it’s name fits. The speakers don’t get very loud, but the headfones you get with The Music Essentials Kit can overpower a crying baby, FTW!!! However twice now it has been at half battery life (2 bars) and then as soon as i stopped using it continuously, it shuts itself off. Once i was rocking out the tunes and when i got an incoming call it powered down. Then i was testing one of the games (you can’t F your GF’s in Surviving Highschool ’07, waste of 2 hours) then the next time i checked it (est. 10 min) it was DEAD. Both times i had sound and flipped open, troubleshoot me.
And is there any other way to look at the ‘stuff’ on my 2g card and internal memory on my computer besides Windows Media Player, which doesnt work for me anyway?
@ Sgt. Mayhem
Yes, you will need a SD card reader for you PC and you also need an SD adaptor for the micro SD card. Then, you can view the files on your micro SD card. This will cost less than the music essential kit. I also bought the music essential kit before for my chocolate phone and it sucks. Holla back if you need any help…
The only disappointments I have with this phone:
a) IM’s are through txt and not data like Blackberry/Sidekicks/T-mobile Dash
b) MP3 player and Web 2.0 close everytime you go to another task like TXT or IM. SOME multitasking would be great.
It doesn’t look like any Verizon phones are getting multi-tasking anytime soon. One of the few phones I have seen that support multi-tasking is the Samsung Upstage.
There are verizon phones out there that let you multi task, which are PDA/cell phone. I had one of those before
I just got the new EnV and its nice so far. One thing I’m severely disatisfied with was my 9800 allowed me to personalize the ringtones for incoming text messages from specific people (a different ringtone for different people’s text messages.) I find the 9900 doesn’t allow this. If anyone knows a remedy to this I would like to hear it. Personalizing my text message ringtones was one of my favorite features. Any feedback?
My girlfriend has a LG enV™, which for some reason has suddenly quit storing her new address book entries in alpha order. Any idea why, or at least how to put them in alpha order? –Thanks for any useful feedback!
I just got the env yesterday. I bought a 2gb sandisk microsd card but it wont work. I format it in the phone and then insert it into my computer but windows will not read the card. I get a message saying that the card is not formatted and asks if i want to format it. Any idea on what i’m doing wrong?
where can i get 1 for a realy good price?
Ivebeen considering getting a new phone and i dont know which one to get.My choices are the sidekick 3 or the lg env, i have know idea which one to get.HELP !!!!!!!!
I saw a few posts concerning mp3′s not playing on enV phones. I had the same problem and found out that some of the ID tags for the songs have special characters in them like /&(%. I used Musicmatch to strip all the tags except for the song title and everything is working fine now. Also, to convert wma to mp3 check out imtoo.com they have software to convert pretty much anything.
Okay, so i am debating between the LGVX8600 and The enV. opinions?
I done so many things to my EnV already…please don’t buy movies or music from Verizon. It’s just a ripped off…you can convert all the music and movies files yourself. There is a software called Super, which basically converts movies into a format, where EnV can recogized.
Dan-
Are you also using a scandisk adaptor for your micro sd card to be read in your PC?
I really think this phone is amazing and I think that if you have a chance to buy it get it.
I love this phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, I’ve loved my enV, but now I’m sad. This thing took a tumble down cement steps and was fine, but it fell out of my pocket onto a hardwood floor and the inside screen cracked. Everything else works fine, but what a pain. Should have gotten insurance…and a phone cover.
I just got my Orange Envy today. Sweet Phone. Also for all the users that have the Silver Envy if you press the 0 button in the menu and enter the code as 0000 you will have access to a hidden menu. Also to format a memory card the lock code is the last 4 digits of your phone number
Omggggggg.
im getting the env this weekend and i am sooo happy!
this is going to be the greatest phone ever!!
and plus now i can acually type on my phone, which is what i’ve always wanted to doo.
[Also for all the users that have the Silver Envy if you press the 0 button in the menu and enter the code as 0000 you will have access to a hidden menu]
Can you elaborate on this? There’s the 7 zero menu but I don’t know about a 4 zero menu.
FOR JODI:
i know about the 4 zero thing, but what is the 7 zero menu?????
helpppp!!!!
Just call up Verizon and they will walk you through resetting the phone
I don’t want to reset the phone. I’m just curious whether the 4 zero “secret” menu is the same as the the 7 zero menu.
o okay. If anyone need helps on putting music or video on the ENV for free, just let me know..

hey guys im getting the env tomorrow and on my old phone.. the red samsung phone.. i bought the music essentials kit for it and it never synced the mp3 to the wma, it was a reall pain in the a$s. Is it easier to put downloaded music from your pc onto your phone? Would i need to have VCast to transfer the pc music to my phone?
hey jodi,
I e-mailed you but your not replying!
What’s going on??
talk to mee.
:)
I have a sinus headache and other health issues. Will reply when I can.
ohh, okay!
just comment whenever.
I am thinking of getting the enV this weekend. I wanted to know if anyone who has it now ever had the Motorola e815. If you did, how is the reception comparision between the two? I admit, I love the look and features of the phone, but I also want to be able to use it for its purpose which is to make and receive calls. LOl!!
I “hated” my e815. Dropped calls almost daily. LOVE the enV! 2 months and no dropped calls.
Thats odd. I loved my e815. I didn’t have dropped calls unless I was deep underground (subway). Are you in a “good coverage” area of verizon?
My boyfriend and his daughter got e815′s too. His calls drop almost daily and we’re in the L.A. burbs! None of us dropped calls with our previous phones. She got a NE2 Samsung and is happy. His NE2 is due soon and he wants an enV. I also dropped calls with my mom, who has a different phone but is in the same city
Has anyone figured out how to sync the enV to a mac yet? I would love to find out.
the phone is great, accept for if you a full song from v-cast music, then literally like evry ten minutes it will go off! and i HATE it. but other then that its great! the camera is flippon awesome…and the keyboard is the best! p.s the razrs suck ballz!
love && peace…dani
yoo guys go to myxertones.com they send you ringtones for free and your almost garunteed to find the ringtone you want, i have the env and they come to my loud ans great! The only problem is trying to customize your own, i send it to myslef and i never get them, if you want ones already made and that arent “clean” then go to this website, almost all the songs your looking for have the chorus and more!
Rob i tried myxer tones and i found the ringtone and i got it and everything but when i opened it, and tried to save the sound it said “no media attached”
would this have anything to do w/ the fact that i have a verizon phone
not the enV a different one
The next enV better have a bigger screen and more style. Overall, I’m satisfy with it especially playing hour of music.
I’m getting my new enV Orange this week does anyone kno if any other colors besides this and silver are comin out in the next month or so? Please anyone that knos tell me as soon as possible.
One other thing does anyone one kno if a new enV is comin out anytime soon so i kno if i should get this one now or wait for the newer one to come out it would be very much appreciated if anyone can let me kno.
Also I have one more question can you use your own sounds as ringtones because that is something i would want in a phone it would be appreciated if anyone can let me kno as soon as possible. Thank You
I guess i have another question about this phone lol. What is this sexret “option” type thing everyone is talking about when you press 0 then go 0000 what is this supposed to do because i dont want to try it and have it mess up my phone. If anyone knows what this hidden “option” does please tell me. Thank You!
Does anyone know how to get the annoying little “Loss of Service” lady to quit saying that every time you drop out of your service area. I’ve been through every possible means (Verizon and LG) to try to figure this out and no one can tell me how. Thanks much!
Im gettin an EnV soon. Shuld i get the original color or the orange?? Any suggestions?
AMAZING PHONE! Better then iPhone. I’m addicted to V CAST videos and the Music ID–The FREE Music ID is worth the cost alone. Plus I can stayed logged into MSN, Yahoo and stay in touched with all my business affiliates from, and broadcast txt messages to ENTIRE GROUPS.
Man… all you guys talking about the EnV makes me want to buy one! I’m not into music, but I download a lot of videos from various websites to my LG VX9800. 2 things that I’m disappointed with is: 1) Video-recording capability is up to 15 seconds both text and storage, and 2) sometimes when I receive a call from someone, it is pretty loud or it sounds like a “crackle”. Of course, changing the volume is one basic thing, but.. when on calls, I guess it can’t be changed. Any ideas? Btw, I’ve gotta wait for my contract to expire next year before I buy the EnV. I’ve got a friend of mine who got his orange-colored EnV. It sounds cool!
Ben that used to happen to me but a couple of weeks later everything was working, make sure you can accept picture messages and that your phone is listed under verizon, try to see if you can send a picture to your phone, if that works then i dont see why the media wont attach, and no you can have any service or phone to use the website.
is the env or the samsung phone that flips two ways better…. a bunch of peeps have told me the env breaks alot wat about yall. is the env really long. well help plz… thks
This phone kicks ass. Everything you need in a phone is in this one. I’ve never had a better phone and probably won’t.
well im planning to get the Env 9900 during this month and i was wondering what are the main problems you guys are having with the phone and about how many songs can i put into the phone(using internal memory)
I had my calender lose all the information I had entered on it. How do I prevent this from happening again. And I also have not been able to transfer my videos from my sd card to my computer. I dont have a problem with my pictures just my videos.
Ah, the beauty and tech of the new LG enV Burnt Orange (more like copper)! Have had the phone for 72 hours and am finding more and more to love about it! The only thing I’d like, is to communicate with other Mac OS users and share notes on the uses and ins-n-outs of this fine bit of tech with the Mac OS system (ie – text, emails, wallpaper, music). BTW- Alot nicer in a different color than the first enV edition!
I have the vx9800 and just upgraded to the new vx9900 and waiting it to come in the mail. I was wondering if i have to buy a new charger for the vx9900 because there not the same. Is that true? do i need to buy a new charger? also i have an scandisk microSD for the vx9800 will i need to buy a new one for the vx9900?
Thanks
Hi. Actually, “The V” (a.k.a. the LG VX9800) uses the miniSD card (up to 1 GB is recognized by the phone), but for “The EnV” (LG VX9800 in either grey or orange color), it uses the microSD card (up to 2 GB). Yes, you’ll have to buy a new charger (wall, car, etc…) that will fit for the “EnV”, because the tips of each phone is NOT the same. I hope that you get the picture.
i think im gonna be able to get my enV tomorrow or the after
im excited iv’e been looking forward to it forever
so do u guys like your enV’s as much as everyone says?
It’s the BEST phone I’ve ever had! I have the silver with V01. No complaints whatsoever, so no need to upgrade to V02. Having said that, I don’t use the MP3 player so I can’t comment on it.
After owning 3 phones in the last year, (LG 8500,Moto Razr and Moto Krazr (Fire)) I expierenced problems with both Motorola Products but NEVER the LG one. On BOTH the Razr and Krazr i found the center “OK” button falling off due to only being stuck on with glue. And both phones not being very durable at all. I Recently snapped my Krazr in Half by sitting on it!. I’m in the Market for a new Phone and alot of people have the enV and I’ve been reading the Reviews and Doing my homework and I have not seen any bad stuff about this phone except for the begging dates of release. I’m probably going to end up buying this or the 9400. I Do alot of Txting and checking my Email on the Go and while I’m out. so I thought this phone would be compatible with me. Those of you who have the Orange, did you regret it after buying it? or do you love it? The woman on the phone told me that its as bright as a warning cone that the construction workers use on the streets. Anyway, sounds like a great phone. Can’t wait to use it myself
I’ve had the LG enV for about a month now, and I have to say that it’s probably the most satisfying experience I’ve ever had with any phone. Love the Key pad, love the BREW games, love the mp3 player, love the camera, I just love it.
I don’t, however, like the ringtone setup, maybe it’s just me, but the fact that you can’t even download free ringtones or use your sync’d mp3 as ringtone seems a bit too nickle and dime-ish.
This phone definetly helped me quell my iphone envy. Now if only I can figure out how to get m.youtube.com to work on it, since this V-Cast service is really a joke.
Jack, No the phone is not as “bright” as the construction cones. It’s closer to the color on the newer copper metalflake color on some of the GM vehicles. Not quite that bright as the cones! Love it. Still waiting for other Mac users to email to network concerning downloading etc..
@ Benny
Why don’t you just dl videos from youtube.com and convert it to .3p2 format so that EnV can play the video for you. There’s no need to pay Verizon for VCast. Only suckerz pay for VCAST…
Msh, thank You very much. I am going in on Wednesday to pick this bad boy up. Everyone I’ve talked to (I haven’t even SEEN an EnV in person) says the Orange is very very bright. My ex said she saw it almost 5 feet away and wanted to know what it was until she saw a closer look. I was told that You cannot buy a Data Cable for this on EBay? and you Have to buy the Music Sync set from VZW and BitPim won’t work? is this correct? or has it been fixed?
Jack, from what I understand, you will have an easier time using BitPim and downloading songs in a readable format onto the microSM card, then putting that back into your enV. Anyone else have this experience?
as far as I know, Its correct with what you said. Its alot harder to put MP3′s onto the env then it would be to just putting them on a card
So i just got this phone off of ebay and went to verzion today and they said that they cant activate the phone because the perosn who owned it before me didnt pay his bill so this phone is locked. is there anyway that verzion has to give me another one because this one wont work or did i just get a bad deal?
I don’t know. The person didn’t deactivate their number from it is all that happened and the reason they didn’t/couldn’t i’m guessing is because they didn’t pay the bill. You pretty much got screwed. You can try telling them you bought it on EBay, and you were wondering if you can get it deactivated with your number put on itt. But if they say no, its because he or she never deactivated their number from it before they sold it to you. Sorry Dude.
Hi i just bought the 9900 and i had it reflashed for cricket. Is there anyway to completly get rid of the verizon operating system and have a it reflashed completly so that i can access my mobile web and recieve/send pic and video messages. Because right now all i can do is make and recieve calls and send and recieve texts.
i was wondering if soon your going to come out with a even newer env phone? becasue i dont want to buy the phone and then find out they came out with an even better one
I just recently bought the enV and I’m loving it. However, when I type ‘*’ on the full keyboard, I get an extra m after it. It doesn’t add an m when I just type 8, so I don’t think it has anything to do with the key. Anyone have any ideas?
Can the LG Env VX 9900 be expanded to store more than 1,000 contacts?

Dave,
I have the Motorola E815 and LG enV. The enV gets good reception but nowhere near as good as the 815. There is one marginal area in town where Verizon reception is notoriously spotty. With both phones side-by-side the E815 was able to establish and hold a call whereas the enV could not even acquire a signal. I love the enV but like you first and foremost I need the phone to be a phone and by that measure the E815 is the better of the two.
yo dis phone is pimp man i got one and its like wow dawg buy it homie
I just ordered it online (8/15/07) after I got a new Verizon plan UNLIMITED TEXTING (which includes IM). I don’t know if it’s a summer promotion or an ongoing plan but for $59.99 you get 450 mins. and UNLIMITED texting which makes this phone a workhorse for texting and IM. I like candy bar voice and QWERTY for text and apparently, an overwhelming majority of the people love this phone despite the idiotic Vcast and when opened it hobbles if you put it on a table for speaker phone.. which I think can easily be resolved by putting something behind while it’s on a table. No big deal.
Btw, I got the phone for $49.99 directly off Verizon website. $149-$50 online instant deduction- $50 from my two year upgrade discount. Can’t wait to get it. The phone may be bigger than what I am used to but I text more now than talk and also the phones that I had were so small it was uncomfortable to talk on so perhaps the extra one ounce 3.6 to 4.6 vs. my previous one makes it feel like I am actually talking on something other than my hand. I am not bluetooth headset guy. Unless you are a sales guy who needs to talk all the time, I think head sets are vulgar. “Hey, look it me, I’m important :-)!”
my family and i are available for an upgrade and i have been considering the enV. i have heard several things about this phone, some good some bad. one complaint that i’ve heard is that the reception is terrible and that this phone is bulky. i have looked at consumer reports and they show the enV as only fair. i was hoping to get some insight from someone who actually owns and uses this phone.
I have had the phone for 2 days, and have found the H700 bluetooth headset really sucks for sound quality (I am half deaf), and I am not able to synchronize with my mac computer to set up contact lists, pictures, tunes etc. Any suggestions as to getting around these things before my 30 days are up? Bill
what is nextyears new enV going to look like?
For everyone: The main complaint I have heard is the voice quality when the phone is closed. I hae seen a lot where it sounds tinny or echoy. Anyone know about this?
For MSH (and other Mac-ers): I, too, am am mac user and am wondering what you have figured out so far. I have heard you can only use an sd card to transfer music (as opposed to a bluetooth transfer). Have you tried that? Also, can you sync iCal and your address book easily via bluetooth or do you have to use another calendar and adress program. Anything you can offer would be great. I’m due for my new phone in September and Mr. Orange is my #1 pick! Thanks!
I have had my enV for over 1 month now. I absolutly love it!! Can say too much about it. I carry in my back pocket many times and it is not too bulky. Love the ability to vibrate and ring different ringtones (last phone could not) I text alot and I rarely use the inside – text from the outside – very verisle
I have downloaded bitpim (which also works on my Linux computer) and am simply waiting for the connection cable to arrive. I have also ordered a different bluetooth earpiece, which might give better audio. I am really at a loss as to how these phones are supposed to have adequate sound quality for MP3 listening….. Picture setup and recovery is really slow! No fast snapshots here. Bill
You can bring movies from your pc to your cell phone. Google a software called “Super”, which is free and legal. This will allow you to convert movies into .3G2, which is the format the enV cell phone read.
Im a tech and i have the envy and can honestly say ive never needed anything but my phone. great camera…great music player…and its actually REALLY durable! plus it has wireless sync!! Ill never go back to another standard flip phone!
Ummm, I am not that computer or phone savy but I have had my phone the enV Orange about 2 days now I am loving it so far,I was wondering if Bill Knew he can turn up the volume of his bluetooth headset on the phone itself (not the phone volume but the bluetooth volume? At first I thought my moto headset was screwed but to my relief, I found the volume for it. Maybe it will help, maybe not. Like I said I’m not the brightest star in the sky when it comes to tech stuff, but heh I can learn, does anyone know if I can transfer my pix from my razr to the enV, I forgot to send them to my pix place and have tried thru the bluetooth connection but can’t seem to get anywhere, any ideas would be appreciate. But, i still love this phone so far.
I just got an enV, i’m not sure how to put music on it. Do i just put the music in the microSD and put that in my phone?
I hope there is someone out there besides me and James, cuz I can’t help him!
@James and Victoria
There are a few ways to transfer music. The fastest way is by using the micro SD card. You basically put the micro SD card into the SD adaptor into your pc/laptop. Drag a music file in the SD card folder call “my_music”(could be .mp3, wma and other format I think). Then, put the micro SD card back into your enV. This is one way of doing it.
Aim: eatfishy
Chat about EnV cell stuff….
Can you take music from the memory card and set them as a ringtone? Or can you take a music file that is sent to you via text message and save it as a ringtone?
To use real music as ringtone, you have to order it from a website. There’s a trick to actually use your own music and set them as ringtone for free. Do a search for this in Howard Forum.
Is the a hack to change the amount of text messages u can store in the inbox? My razor holds thousands and 50 doesnt seem like many!
I have an enV and i noticed that the signal has the “EV” and the “1X”. On my last phone(vx8300) I could go into the menu and change the NAM to automatic and that would fix it. This phone dosent have that option. It is just set to NAM 1, and I cant figure out how to change it. Is there a way to get into the service menu? I have seen other sites that say “press the menu button then zero, then the password is 6 zeros”. I know people are not suppose to mess with these settings but I cant even get to the menu. Is there something I’m doing wrong? Thank you in advance if you can let me know about this.
Man i really hope someone can help me i really need it. Ok so i bought my enV two days ago. I love the phone no complaints. So i took out the micro SD card from my old phone (a950) and stuck it in its adapter and put it in my computer. I tried to delete all the files at once and it didnt work, it froze up my computer and made this huge ordeal. So i figured oh wat the heck, and i stuck the micro in my new enV as soon as the card was in, my enV shut itself off..i was kinda weirded. but i figured. wat ever. the phone turned itself back on. but did not read the card. i tried formatting it. and it said formating failed. i dont know wats going on with my phone and card. could someone please help me. im desperate!
this right here sounds about exactly wat happened to me
Edit: atleast memory card wise anyways
i was wondering if the extended battery really makes a difference on the 9900 and if 4 gig cards are not supported on any of the new upgrades
@Ben
Re-format your sd card on your pc (right clicking on it then format). This will erase your SD card back to default. Then your enV should the card fine and will create 4 folders in your SD card.

You can save songs as ring tones if you want and here’s how to do it…
First if you try and do this with a full 3 minute song you won’t be able to do it. When you email it Verizon will reject it so you have to cut the size of the clip down using Nero or something similar to that or you can find short clips of songs all over the internet. Next you have to email the file from your computer to your phone. I found that Yahoo! mail is the fastest as far as the time it takes from when you send it until it reaches your phone. The address you send it to is your phone number with no dashes @vzwpix.com (ie 4125551212@vzpix.com. Once you receive the picture message on your phone select “options” on the bottom of the screen and when the options menu pops up select “save as ringtone.” The next screen allows you to name the file. After you do so select “OK” and it will be saved with your ringtones. You can now go to “menu” –> “settings & tools” –> “sounds settings” –> “call sounds” –> “call ringtone” –> “all calls” and pick your ringtone and select “OK.” Hope this helps you out! I know when I had my LG VX8300 I called about a problem I was having and I was telling the guy at the call center about it and he was like “WOW I didn’t know you could do that!” So I’m not sure how many people know how to do it but that’s how!
Hey for all you guys out there with memory card issues with the phone, here a very likely reason you are having problems. Most cards people are purchasing these days are generic and produced with very cheap materials. A very large portion of these memory cards that are shipped out are defective. They easily are corrupted and in many instances can not be restored even after formating them. It is very possible that the phone it self could be defective as well, so try the card on a friends phone or computer to help eliminate the problem. If you can’t get it to work on any device, it is likely that the card is defective. If it is manufactured by companies such as SanDisk they will usually replace it. And if the place you purchased it from has in-store warranty give that a shot as well. Before asking any more questions, please try eliminating the problem. As for the phone, if you think your unit is defective, Verizon will replace it with a refurbished unit. But before doing that try a working card on your phone to check whether its the card’s problem or the phone’s problem! – Skatter Tech Admin
well i dont think its a problem w/ the card. its sandisk. and it worked really well on my old phone. but then i messed around w/ it on my computer and tried to delete everythin on it. and it just would freeze up my computer it was really weird. so i talked to a gateway worker, they tried to help me out as much they could but they didnt help very much, ill try all these things though. i really want it to work!
Whomever recommended the Myxertones.com for free ringtones Thanks so much worked like a charm…
I just got my enV on Friday and I love it so far. This phone rocks!!!!
Hey! I have had the enV for almost a year now, since December actually. I’ve had this one huge problem where whenever I loose service, the phone awkwardly says to me “LOSS OF SERVICE”. It is SO annoying and I can’t find a single way to turn that off besides from turning it on vibrate or silent.
Anyone else have this same problem or know how to fix it?
thanks!

I just got mine, so I’m not sure if this is it or not. Go into “Settings and Tools”, then to “Sound Settings”, to “Service Alerts”, and then to “ERI”. I have mine set to “Off” and have not gotten that. Actually, I did not get any alert when I was at my sister’s (aka the cell phone black hole. no carrier works there!). So, although you won’t get any alert when you are out of the service area, it should stop the annoying voice. Hope this helps!
do *22899 + send
I have had my Env since Christmas 2006 and really love it, but I wonder if anyone out there has been able to load music videos I have tried but to no avail
[Comment ID #28625 Will Be Quoted Here]
No that’s not it…I have the same “problem” with mine, and the ERI sound setting has always been set to off…but I still here “LOSS OF SERVICE” whenever it goes out of service and my phone isn’t on vibrate/silent.
Yes, all you need is a SD card and free software called “Super”. Make sure your PC/Laptop have a SD card reader. Then, drag the video file into Super and convert it to .3G2, so that EnV will recognize it.

What does this do?
My only comment on the VX9900 is “Awesome”. However, can someone please explain how to turn down the volume on MP3 playback. I have it set to the lowest settings for both earpiece and volume control on the unit. Still, the music is too loud.
I just switched over from T-Mobile to Verizon and purchased the envy phone. I had a blackberry pearl and on the pearl it allowed me to use my MP3′s as ringtones. I have not been able to figure out how to do the same with the envy. Does the envy support MP3′s as ringtones? HELPPP!!!
Hi, I am considering buying this phone but there is one drawback that I can see. The volume when using the vz navigator is almost unhearable even on high. If the car air conditioning was on or there was a truck beside you on the road I know I wouldn’t be able to hear it. Has anyone else noticed this problem. ( The volume overall for music, voice etc. seems fine…it’s just when using the navigator)

go back one page and read my previous post…
Does anyone know if an enV 2 is coming out anytime soon? I was just wondering because i’m thinking about getting this phone, but if a newer verison is coming out I would want that instead. I haven’t heard anything about it, but I was just wondering. And… how long has this phone been out now? Thanks!
I’ve been hearing a few questions about an “enV 2″ and I just wanted to update everyone on some information. This is actually the second major model of this series. The VX9800 was the VX9900′s predecessor. And what all you guys are waiting for is the VX10000 (ten thousand)!!! It will be available possibly as early as this December. It retains the same form factor as the enV featured in this review but it’s got a bit surprise. The front of the phone is a huge touch screen interface like the one on the iPhone. The internal screen has been upgraded to a wide screen display as well. There is also possible talk about built in flash memory, however that is still uncertain at this time.
Here are some leaked images of the VX10000: Front Side | Inside | Left Side
Enjoy! – Skatter Tech Admin

Hey Mike (or any other Mac-ers out there…)! I was going to try the SUPER software you suggested, but it looks to only be Windows compatable. Can you reccomend anything comperable that works with OSX? Thanks!
I’m not sure of any other free software besides SUPER. Go to afterdawn.com and search for it there. That website listed a lot of free software.
I don’t know if I have been missing something or my phone has done this all along, it vibrates and rings at the same time? Vibrate is turned off,so I am not sure why this is happening or if it’s been doing it all along and I just didn’t notice, obviously I haven’t had the phone long. I looked in the booklets but didn’t see anything about this, am I missing something? I certainly would like to have the vibrate turned off all together. Thanks for your help. Oh and of course since I finally get the phone I want, there will be a new one out anytime. Oh woe is me..
One real real easy way to convert your videos on any operating system is Zamzar. First either upload a video you’d like to convert or link to a online video (YouTube, Google Video, etc.). Next select the conversion format to “3gp.” Finally enter your email address and it will send you a link to download the converted file when complete. This is a easy method, however is hard for those with slow uploads.
The other method would be to use VLC which is a bit more complicated that most applications, but I know it will work on Macs for sure. Just try encoding the video as H.263 or MP4 and the audio as MP4A or AAC. Also make sure the video is at 320×240 resolution.
I love the LG enV but it keeps shutting itself off no matter what I am doing or where it is. This happens about a couple of times a week. Anyone else having the same issues? Plus, the reception has been very staticy lately. I’ve called Verizon and also have updated it via the airway (*228) but I am still having the issue. I’m gonna take it in since its under warranty and get a new one…..anyone else have this issue?
I currently have an Lg phone. It is OK. I would love to get a new phone and should be shortly, but am still deciding whether or not to get the enV. Is it worth it? How much does it cost?
Another Stupid Question;
I have my phone programed to vibrate and ring, but it only rings. I check every time it doesnt vibrate, and it says vibrate is on. Same with my txts, it only makes a beep. Anyone else have this problem/ know whats up?
To ethan, I really like my en V Orange, I have a few problems but just lack of knowledge on my part I think. I paid next to nothing for mine, but that is probably because they will be coming out with the new model anytime now. It was almost time for my renewal with verizon and I am getting a $50. mail in rebate, so I paid like 3bucks and some change, so I am pretty happy with that part. Good luck and I hope you find what you like, I have been having fun with mine so far.
Mike G. I have been able to convert my video to 3gp files, but when I load them into my flix folder on my card my phone is not showing the file. Is there anything else I should try? I have formatted my card several times and I am using AVS converter 4.4 to creat .3pg video files. Thanks for you help!
I’m not sure will all .3pg works properly on EnV. I converted all my video files in .3g2 and it works fine for me. I actually use a free software called SUPER to convert videos.
Any Mac users out there have any luck with connecting the phone with a USB cable? I tried just connecting it and nothing. I tried downloading drivers from the LG website and they appear not to be not Mac compatable. I want to try using Bitpim, but I can not get it to recognize my phone. Any help wpuld be appreciated. Thanks!
Aly I might be talking through my hat but I couldn’t get my vibrate off, then I shut off the master volume and my phone just rings like I wanted it to, so I was thinking maybe you need to turn yours on. Just a guess here, like I said I am learning something everyday, and this forumn does help..Good luck.

Are the files 3pg or 3gp…maybe they are being created in the wrong format. 3gp and 3g2 are the standard cell phone video formats.

How old is your Mac? Is it a desktop or notebook? Most newer Macs have Bluetooth capability and the enV has Bluetooth. Why would you need a USB connection?
[Comment ID #28969 Will Be Quoted Here]
Sounds like you just got a lemon this time. When you change it out, you should be fine. I have had The V for about 2 years and it has cut off on me two or three times. I think my phone just overheated from being left in the car all day a few times.
[Comment ID #28553 Will Be Quoted Here]
There is actually more than one way to skin a cat. You can shorten the song to a snippet by using Audacity (free). Then use BitPim to add it to your phone (using Bluetooth) http://www.howardforums.com has some tutorials on it. Either way, you get the same result, your own customized ringtone!!
[Comment ID #28641 Will Be Quoted Here]
Actually , your going to have to convert all the videos you want to transfer into the phone to a *.3gp format. There’s some mpeg/wmv/avi to 3gp video converters online , just google them or something. Hope it works out for you !

I have a MacBook that is about 1 year old. I’m new to all of this stuff! I have my phone and computer paired (hopefully correctly!) but I can’t seem to transfer anything except contacts form my phone to my address book. Any help? Sorry i’m not too skilled in this stuff and I appreciate all of the help!
U have to go to ERA or somethin like that
Simplistic, nope haven’t had any bad connections on my en V, or any problems at all with it shutting off, so I think you did get a lemon. Thanks everyone for recommending the SUPER for converting files, this works really great, and I like the Myxertones for ring tones also. I have just been converting my songs and putting them on the card. I can not get the software to download on my computer windows 2000 (from the essentials kit, a waste of money except for the earphones from what I can see!) I even tried to put it on my sons Xp and put the card in and his computer immediately deleted all my songs, also very nice. So I went back to my slower version of doing things, how does this Bitpim work, as u can tell I am no expert! Thanks
Thanks everyone for your help. I downloaded Super have not been able to convert any video not sure if I am doing this right. I drag the video file from my cpu to the active list and select the ouput convertor to 3g2 and nothing happens. Is there something else I need to due to start the converting proecess? As you can see I am a little media challenged..Thanks again for all the insight and help.
I’m thinking about getting the LG enV VX9900 but I don’t want it to shut off all the time, call people on it’s own, and does the camera part really big and bulgey? And can you download songs from your ipod and put it as ringtones too? I’m confused. I deffinitely need some help getting to know this phone cause as you can tell I’m not an expert! Thanks for the help!
blondey, umm, the phone is a lot bulkier than I was used to, really doesn’t bother me much, I keep it clipped to my belt or pants most of the time, since I use it a lot for bus. with my bluetooth. Never shuts off on me, as for calling people I think I do that by hitting the bluetooth if I take it off and throw it in my purse, it will call the last person whom I talked to, but it used to do that with the razr. I don’t know if you can link your ipod to it or not, I am thinking you will probably have to send those songs to your computer if they are not there all ready and then load them into your micro sd card you will have to shorten them, there is a piece by Simplistic on the 25th telling you all about it. You have to turn the little wheel to open the camera lense when you are going to use it, no big deal, it is a little slow to respond though, maybe the next model will be better. As far as texting goes and listening to tunes (but your all ready have an ipod) it is terrific!!! I text 1000 times more than I used to, fast easy etc…So go look and play with one at the store and see if it’s for you. I’m still having fun with mine, so I do like my new toy. Spoiled I guess! P.S. I am no expert at all!!

WILL 2min song work?
I have had the enV for about 2 months now I love it other than for the past 2 weeks, every 2 days it freezes up and the screen goes black. Last night this happened again and I can’t get it to come back. Anyone else have that prob. Or know how to fix it?
The only problems I have been having lately, is I am not able to download ringtones from Myxertones.com and they even stated on the sight that verizon customers are having problems, I wonder if Verizon has blocked something? Also, those headphones from the essentials kit keep losing the sound, the person on the other line can hear me fine, but I can not hear them, what a bummer to keep having to plug and unplug the headphones, weird! I haven’t used them except for today for calls since my bluetooth needed to be charged, it was great stero sound but…a bit of a pain.
OFFICIAL VX10000 aka “LG Voyager” Announcement

Simplistic says, I have used your method but the message went as text not the picture mesage hence phone never gave me option to save it as ringtone. And I have sort song that can be used as ringtone. Can you please tell me how to send ringtone from computer via email to cell phone number as picture message.
I`m from Romania. How, where can i to buy this phone LG VX9900?
i just purchased a stereo cable adapter to play my mp3 player on my envy in my car thru the aux input. i can hear it contect thru the speakers but the songs won’t play thru the radio. does anyone know what i am doing wrong.
thanks
I’m getting the orange enV this Friday or maybe earlier! Ordering it tomorrow, I’m getting my music and etc. Ready. I’m soo excited! I don’t really care about the Voyager. Anybody else have the ORANGE enV??
[Comment ID #8941 Will Be Quoted Here]
dl bitpim. it is a program that will open up the enV lg vx 9900.. you can then add all or any part of your cpu mp3 files.. even as ringers if you want to
bitpim will now work with LG VX 9900 aka:enV
i have the phone and ive realixed that your calls dont come through unless u turn the speaker on and they dont tell u this then if ur a total retard you would never get any calls
mmm, melissa this is a new one for me, I’ve never turned the speakers on or off, I am usually on the Bluetooth, so that’s interesting. Josh, I have the Orange enV, but I am a girl, so I am always changing it’s clothes, mine is white at the moment, I need a belt clip so I order different cases off e-bay with the swivel clips, a lot cheaper than going to the mall etc. Enjoy! Has anyone gotten myxertones to work lately? I guess I will try to do the pitpim next if no more luck from that site. Also thanks everyone for all the info you provide.
BITPIM oops!
[Comment ID #26031 Will Be Quoted Here]
you can DL bitpim and use it to make several changes to the enV VX9900
I’ve had my enV for about 3 weeks and I never charge it while I sleep – only while I’m right next to the phone and now, when I plug it in to charge I have to jiggle the charger for it to start charging/keep charging. I bought my phone non-upgrade(retail price) from Best Buy and I really like it despite this problem. What should I do?
@ Krista
I don’t know the return policy, but Best Buy might still let you exchange it for another unit since it is defective. The warranty might run out after 30 days so you should head over there ASAP and see what options they can offer. The next option would be to contact LG’s warranty for a replacement.
[Comment ID #34026 Will Be Quoted Here]
Sounds like either the charger or the port is defective or damaged. Take it in and have them look at it for you. I know when I got mine from the Verizon store, I had 30 to try it and take it back if I did not like it. I’m sure they will work with you if it is broken, especially if it is only 3 weeks old. Good luck!
I totally agree with everyone head over there and tell them it just doesn’t charge right etc, 3 weeks is just too short a time for an expensive piece of electronics to go bad on you. I had that problem with a generic car charger from E-bay, am still waiting for my replacement. But your’s is not generic, so something is wrong, like everyone else I wish you luck…
Can anyone please tell me how to upload videos from the enV to the computer? I have the cables and everything, i just dont know what software to use. Its my friends phone, and he said the cables just came with the phone… sans any program to upload stuff.
Any ideas?
Hi. Yes. You should be able to download a software program called Bitpim. It would let you transfer files between each other, either by cable or by bluetooth donagle (?) adapter. When I mean by bluetooth (BT), I mean it as having a BT-enabled phone and an available accessory to transfer files between each other. If BT is not an option, then you could buy a cable either from eBay or at your local store.
Hope this helps (To Mike).

get bitpim… you can then use it via usb cable for the 9900 and send as many MP3;s that you want with the music essentions package and maybe with out it.. just sync it and BTW Bitpim does operat with lg vx9900 enV easily.. very user friendly… i am trying to get games now with no luck…
My enV freezes, too, with the blue screen. First time I had to remove the battery for several minutes, and it rebooted. Second time it took several hours before it worked. Any suggestions?
Well, I finally got my Orange EnV after thinking about it for 4 months. I got it on November 1st. I’m enjoying it alot. It took some time getting use to the QWERTY because it was the first phone I had used and owned myself that had one. but after that, it was a breeze. The only thing I’m not fond of is that if its in your pocket without keyguard, it will make random calls because the front buttons are so touch sensitive. and its froze once when I was reciving a txt and shut off but turned back on (And that was the 2nd day I ever owned it too). I’m impressed, because i can txt alot faster, but i wish it was more like a PDA for the price I payed for it. but I am happy. :) and all my friends are jealous. heh.
Hello!
I am going to purchase the enV this holiday season. I was just wondering if it was possible to download my iPod songs & videos onto my new enV. And if it is, how it would be done. Thanks !!

just download a progam calld “Bitpim” it is free and will make any mp3 a ringtone… simple and safe and it works and is a user friendly program

RB: Having problems with the phone shutting off for no aparant reason…
I am having that same problem, and it has been going on for two months now. I have called to report this issue every occasion to make sure it is on file that I have reported the problem. I recently spoke to a customer service rep. who is sending me a new phone and should get here today. I am afraid that the next one will do the same thing, i think it is a flaw in the technology. My husband had the same phone and it turned off on him often as well. if i knew then what i know now…lol, i’d choose another phone =(
Liv,
I’ve had the 9900 since May and it has never, EVER shut down on me. As a matter of fact, it’s the best phone I’ve ever owned! Maybe you and your husband just got a bad batch. Hopefully the new phone doesn’t have that flaw…and I’m sure it’s the phone, not the techonology.
I preface this by saying that the inevitable answer is probably simple, I’m just an idiot. So I’ve had my orange enV for a few weeks. I figured it was time to get more memory so I bought a Scandisk 2GB microSD 3-in-1 card. I was trying to move music from my computer onto my phone, but it’s saying that it’s write-protected. I’ve done all the things I can think of to undo that with no success. Suggestions?
[Comment ID #28990 Will Be Quoted Here]
yes the enV is a good phone .. it changed my ringers on its own but i have been loading it out with apps, so i figure one of them chaned the ringers which by the way are not Verizons choices, but my on… a program called “Bitpim” will work wonders with yer 9900 le enV.love the phone.. i am sorry though that the sales man told me it was the new kid on the block and i bought it 2 months back and its over a year old … oh well next xhange over and i will investagate ffirst
To whom it may concern, My en V has never ever shut itself off, so I think there is an individual phone problem with the people’s that have. Brian I think you have your card or your adapter locked, I have done this and have to get my son to figure it out it’s simple but I have worked too many hours this week thus I am brain dead so, and the kid’s not home, but it’s simple I remember that much..Maybe someone else out there has all their cells intact and can give you a hand. By the way Myxertones is up and running again for those who want to take the easy way to get new ringtones..good luck everyone..As far as the en V being the old model, well I wouldn’t have gotten mine for practically nothing if it was the new model, so I am still happy with my purchase…Tech. changes as fast as it’s made anymore…

try bitpim to enter the movie on the card
[Comment ID #37202 Will Be Quoted Here]
The SD card that you are placing your microSD card into should have a little switch on the side. Make sure the switch is NOT in the lock position. If on, it will not let you add or modify content onto the card.
Thanks Sahas I knew someone out there would help Brian out with the problem and jog my memory too! Everyone is great to help out..
hey just found out that is title of ur song is too long .. the music player on the env might not recognize it.. so try make it short…
Hey everyone,
I have just published the review of the brand new LG VX10000 (aka. LG Voyager) so check it out!
Link: LG Voyager (VX10000) Review
I have a question for someone willing to answer it,
If I am about to get an enV, will both, my pictures and contacts, be placed from my old phone to my new one?
@Ethan27
The Verizon Wireless store should be able to transfer all your contacts onto your new phone. It usually takes about 30 minutes or so. I am not 100% sure if they can do the photos as well. If your old phone has a microSD slot, you could copy the files onto that then put it into your new phone!
[Comment ID #34003 Will Be Quoted Here]
I have the same prblem. but now i have to hold my charger down. so i wouldnt wait until this happens to yours.
I have the enV and ever since i had it it tells me out loud “loss of service” and i saw the response to the same problem and i did it so hopefully it will work. a girl in my class did something and it hasnt went off until today once. really random haha i dunno, help?
I had my silver EnV less than a year. I’m going to sell it on ebay soon. If you want to buy it, contact me and I’ll give you rest of the information. It’s in good condition still.

how do i use the bitpim for ringtones?? can someone pls write down step by step to get the ringtone??
@ UGHH
The help file inside bitpim will give you steps by steps instruction you need for ringtone.
I am having trouble downloading ringtones. If I can add any mp3 as a ringtone, why do they make it so difficult? I dont want to pay Verizon for a song I already have… Isnt there any easier way to find them online and upload to the phone directly? I cant even get photos to work right…
I love my env but i can’t figer out the screen saver it dosen’t work. it the option just there for looks or what
i still can’t get music on my phone does anyone know how i do it i put my card in the card reader and try to sync it with wmp 11 and it keeps telling me that it is write protected how do i do it if anyone can help me that would be great thanks
use bitpim and simply transfer the song/s as mp3′s.. shoot you can import the entire song and make it a ringer, but the ringer once set will only play about a minute before it cuts off.. its simple.. now i need the info to get into the fields or background programs located in the phones memory..ie:0,0000. i just can not remember how to do it again..
i think i have to press 0. when i first open the get iut now.. but i forgot.. so someone please remind me….
I have to-mobile right now and my contract ends in may 2008. I want either the env or the voyager and im not sure what one? its not for a few months yet. I have been hearing a little bit that the voyager isn’t that good? is that true. if you could help me decide on the env or the voyager or if anyone thinks or know if there will be any new phone with the qwerty keyboard like the env coming out by may. please resond.
I have the lg env and i think it is great for texting but a little slow on taking pics. I reccamend this phone for teens who love texting so email me about your following questions my email is ashleydencoll@aim.com thanks and have fun with your new env!
While listening to music on the phone(env9900), with headphones. music continues to play from the phones speakers. Is there a way to turn off the phone’s speakers while listening with headphones.
use a program named “Bitpim” iots free and will open up the lg9900 env without any problems transfer whatever you want to to the cpu or cpu to phone and yes all mps’ can be made into ringers for the env,,, just remember to sync the files..
Papa54, I think this is what you are referring to: To enable non-verizon approved mp3 files on the vx9800, open the menu (open phone and push “ok”), then push “0″ enter “000000″ as the service code, and at the bottom of the menu you can open up “music settings” and change it to mp3. I found this on another site but I will not get my vx9900 until Christmas, so I have not tried it yet. Please give it a go and let us know if it works!!!!! Merry Christmas!!!!!!
Has anyone figured out how to turn off the lock button in the front touch screen of the Voyager? That thing makes using the phone so difficult. You have to use it before every function. I’d like the ability to turn it on and off at will
ok, so I bought the env and when the tech person swapped my numbers and stuff she told me that I didn’t need to buy the music essentials kit and that when i got my card not to format it and I would be able to dump my songs on the card via a reader. I did that…the phone only showed/played 5 out of the 41 I put on there… so I erased what the player had and now I have nothing to play. The memory is showing all my songs I put on the card…how do I get them to play now on my phone?
you can record music in sounds and send it in a pix message and then save it as a ringtonr
I just got the orange env it is a great phone i wasn’t sure between the env or the voyager but i am extremely happy with my decision everyone should get the env instead of that crappy voyager ok bye
Hi Hallie i just got the orange env too i love it also i also had a problem deciding between voyager or env i’m happy with my choice too bye
i work for verizon wireless and the easiest way to get a sound so that it will be your ringer is to save yourself as a contact then send yourself a picture message. within that message instead of sending a picture send a sound and once you recieve the message simply just save it as your ringtone
there is a new green env now, right? if im going to change mine from orange, about how much is it gonna cost me to upgrade? or do i have to buy new one?
Albert the green enV is just like your Orange so there really is no need to change, if you want a different color go to e-bay and buy a case for it, I have several because I use a clip to carry mine around. The Voyager is the new phone out now. I like my Orange enV just fine, and the reviews are better so I am sticking with the enV for now.
The review is all ok, but it is a phone. How good is the freaking antena!!!
Reception is non existant in this review of a mobile phone. Uhhh derh.
What about Battery Life
Speakerphone.
Hell phone. What is the review for a MP3 player or a phone?
I’m using a VX6100 for 4 years – and happy as a puppy. Recently the original battery died and the two replacement batteries I’ve got for $10 each on the web don’t do much better –> phone is dead :-(
Been looking at the enV but I’m a heavy speakerphone user and if I picked up the hints correctly then the enV’s speakerphone mandates keeping the phone open. Is that so? Does not seem like the right solution to use especially while driving…
Any insights anyone?
I sent a picture to my e-mail address then hit ‘reply’ to send a different picture to my phone. Hours later, I still haven’t gotten it. Any ideas why? What’s the best way to send a picture to your phone? Thanks!
Does anybody know how to make the notes longer? I type really long notes and I always get out of space messages.
thanks,
los
after converting music video file to 3g2 and loading the files to my memory card why does my Env not see the files?
MY SCREENSAVER OPTIONS DO NOT WORK ON MY NEW GREEN LG_ENVY. Am I doing something wrong in my settings or is this a common problem amongst users? can someone tell me how to get this function working on my phone? everything else works fine, so i doubt i have a defective lemon….but then again, who knows??
Mine only comes on when I have my Orange plugged in. I think it has something to do with the power save function.
earlier papa 54 and Paul Cotter said something about opening the 9800 with the 000000 service code and turning on the MP3 setting…does this work on the 9900. i put in the 000000 and went to audio settings in the service menu, but it has nothing about MP3′s…seems odd to me because i saw it on the old 8100 and the 9800…anyone know a way to turn that feature on if it exists?
[Comment ID #35402 Will Be Quoted Here]
ok open the 9900 up.. lay it down and go to the get it now icon.. and press the zero button (0).. then enter the zero’s in place of the ? marks… you are wide open and i would not change the pass word an ) is easier to remember.. now get the free “BitPim” program online… connect the cpu to the PH with a usb connection.. flip on bit pim and change about anything you want to.. including any MP3 you like..no matter how long it is… i converted the whole MPs although it wont play it all as a ringer but will play it all when i wanna play that song…easy as pie..
I just got the enV and I’m wondering if there is a way to turn music into a ringtone using the SD card. I’ve figured out how to get music from my computer to the phone, but can I then turn the music that is on my phone into a ringtone? I can’t seem to figure out how to save anything onto the card as a sound so that I can text it to myself. I don’t have the software to sync my phone to my computer either, just the card and a card reader.
[Comment ID #38734 Will Be Quoted Here]
is the screensaver supposed to only be “active” when your phone is charging and plugged in? it just doesnt seem right that the phone’s screen automatically goes “black” and perhaps into power save mode after your backlight goes out. all of my other phones always stood on to at least show the date/time. is anyone else annoyed with this odd function on the lg-env? or is it just me? has anyone figured out a way to actually keep the screensaver on the way its supposed to work? if so, please post a comment….thank you kindly ;-)!
The screensaver thingie used to annoy me too. But I just hit the ‘OK’ button (twice if the Keyguard is on) to see the time. Once I got used to it I actually preferred that.
Ok, love my enV first off, but im on my replacement phone. My first one stopped charging on me, at first i had to hold it in and then sooner than later it just broke. I got a refurbished one and now that one is having the exact same problem. Anyone else having this same problem?
I’ve taken a ton of pictures with my enV that saved to my SD card. But I can’t figure out how to transfer them to my PC. I have BitPim and use that for all of my ringtone stuff… but I can’t figure out how to get the pictures to upload from my SD card. Suggestions?
I’ve had this phone since February 2006, just in the past month it’s started shutting off as well. Not sure who to call or what to do about it. I loved the phone until this started happening :(
Ok, nobody is probably going to answer this, but ok. I hope someone does.
1. Screensavor? What is up with that? how does it work?
2.Can you make a recorded sound into a ringtone? If so, how?
3. Antena? Is there one, or no?
OK thank you. PLEASE ANSWER!! thankyou =]

Does anyone know if you can send a ringtone via bluetooth with verizon (envy)? if so how to? Thanks
how do u get speakerphone? because even though i open the phone, the speakers aren’t much louder…

Actually, you CAN set an entire song as a ringtone if you have an SD card with the memory to hold it. Download BitPim. When you’ve got your phone connected (with the USB Data cable for your phone) to the program, you will see an icon on the top of the window that shows a music note with a + on it. Click that, find your song, convert it, click ok. It will convert the song for you and save it in your ringers in the program. Then you need to “Send Data to Phone”. After this is complete, open your phone and view your ring tones, it will be there. If my directions don’t make sense, just download BitPim and view their “How To” section.
I know it works. I have Upgrade U (the entire song) as the ringtone for my sister, You’re the World to Me as the ringtone for my husband (the entire song) and I ripped a section of the Kill Bill Theme for everyone else.
It does work. You need an SD Card, the cable and BitPim.
[Comment ID #38423 Will Be Quoted Here]
listen up,,everyone,,,,there is a free Program called “Bitpim” it is easily found and DL’ed.. it will place a mp3 in yer phone as a ringer.. the whole song ..but the env only gives about45 seconds and then it goes to voice mail…but the entire song can be heard if you want to.. theres options to move other parts of info as well.. i am not a gamer, so i did not try to load any.. i will tell you this.. in southeast tn they called the envy9900 the new kid on the block… and after i bought 1, i found they had been out since 2006.. so my next will be new if i have to order it from california.
and yes the hole for power and usb does get wallered out.. hows that for southern..
There have been a lot of questions about ringtones. Goto http://www.bitpim.org/ and download the program; you will need a data cable or computer bluetooth usb device.
1) Open Bitpim; it should automatically connect to your phone.
2) Click View, View Filesystem. Be careful in here because changing/deleting files could mess up your phone!
3) In the directory window expand to the folder brew/16452/lk/mr
4) Right click in the white space under name, and click new file.
5) Select an mp3 file and it will be uploaded (other file types may work too, but I am not sure).
6) Right click and click Reboot Phone; or turn it off and on yourself and your ringtone will show up
Note that you may want to cut the mp3 file down to a 20-30 second clip instead of putting an entire song in the ringtone folder.
As for saving your own sounds as ringtones…Recorded sounds are saved in the brew/16542/ms folder. Select your saved sound, right click and save it to your computer. From there you can follow the previous steps to set it as a ringtone
I want to upgrade to a new phone and i was thinking about the enV but I was wondering if they are going to make a new enV and if anyone knows, please let me know the release date.
Greg – The upgrade to the enV just came out. It is the Voyager. Just like the ennV, it has the qwerty keyboard inside, but the outside has a full touch screen. I have not played with one yet, but it is supposed to be like the enV and the iphone combined.

get the program named “bitpim” its free and you can make many changes to yer lg9900 aka:enV
I have a 2 GB Micro SD card with 132 songs on it, but the music player isn’t reading about 15 of them. I now the tracks are there and they aren’t corrupt, so I don’t get it. HELP! I’ve reformatted and reloaded a few times but nothing works.
hey if this cell phone is lock how do you unlock it

go for the voyager, the env is old technology compared to the voyager
2 of my friends have it and its really cool
the touchscreen is really cool
its got actual internet, i was on myspace
the inner part of the phone works great!
big keys and 2 large screens
okay I sold my Silver EnV and got the new Chocolate….I’m missing the EnV querty keyboard and thinking of buying the Orange Env in a few months. Anyone know if another color is coming out?
There’s also a green one out now.
Wow. I’ve not been here for a long time! Anyway, what Jodi posted is true. However, what are your opinions on the differences betwen the EnV (any or all colors) and the LG VX10000 (a.k.a. The Voyager)? Is there a message inbox limit on either phone? On the LG VX9800 (or “The V”), the message inbox limit is 50, and I hate that. On newer phones, I heard it can have up to like 100 or 200 messages in an inbox (or sent). [I could be wrong, though]. What about Internet (mobile web) on either side? What are the essential features and all that?
hi all – my ipod just died on me and at first i was upset, then i remembered that the envy is supposed to be one of the best phone for music. how does this feature work? and do you have to pay for each song you upload and/or play?
OMG guys!!! Tha EnV’s new 2 year agreement pricing is $79.99!!! im so happy cuz i have an upgrade on the 2nd of Feb and i was willing to pay $150 for it and now its WAY cheaper!!! GO Check it out!!! http://WWW.VERIZONWIRELESS.COM
there is no charge to upload music from your computer but the songs from VCast on your phone are 1.99 off your phone and $.99 off the internet
I know there is a green EnV out already. I went to circuit city today and the employee heard from the LG rep that a new color is coming out, but didn’t mention the color. I’m hoping it’s a black or blue one!!!
does the enV front keys lock or does it call people by accident if it’s in your pocket?
You can turn the Keyguard on by pressing the ‘#’ key for about 2 seconds.
Hi:
Great forum here! Have been reading a lot of the posts and have gotten A LOT of information about the ENV. Still debating whether or not I should buy it. I probably will….lol…anyway, was wondering when converting songs so that they can be transferred to the ENV to use as a ringer, is it possible to “cut” the song so only a specific part of the song plays as the ringer or will the ENV play the first 30-40 secs of the song as the ringer? I probably will “test-drive” the phone during the first 30 day period to see if it best-suited for my needs. Thanks!
PKA,
>is it possible to “cut” the song so only a specific part of the song plays as the ringer
I did it with Pink Floyd’s ‘Comfortably Numb’ and Queen’s ‘Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy’. I don’t remember which program I used but maybe someone here can suggest a program? It took a lot of trial and error to get exactly what I wanted but it is possible.
Thanks, Jodi! I’ll look around for a program to “cut” the song. :-)
Okay, I racked my brain (well, I actually looked on my desktop) and realized that I used the Nero Wave Editor program.
The easiest way to get a ring tone on the LG EnV 9900. Find your song. Download Audacity. Cut song to around 30 seconds. Export as wav. Then I used I tunes open in I tunes convert to MP3 make sur the file size does not go above 399Kb(lower the bit rate as needed) I use 96. Then add to you memory card under My Sounds. Then send a pic message to yourself adding the sound under sound. Open message, options, save as ringtone. Boom your in there. I know it sounds like a lot but it is not. I did 10 in like 5 min. Good Luck
Yes, I’m having the same issue after just 8 months. First had to finesse or hold it in to get it to charge- now it just broke on me. This started only after a few months! Seems like the connection was never solid from the beginning. I really like the phone but I can’t afford to keep replacing every 9 months?!?!
enV is nice device…anyone successfully sync using bitpim on mac via bluetooth?
Bitpim, Mac, and bluetooth.
Unfortunately, not as of yet. However, if anyone has, I now know 2 people that would greatly appreciate the help! Thanks!
My LG enV’s front screen doesn’t work, but the phone doesn’t have that long since we bought it. I don’t mistreat it or anything. It’s in good conditions. What’s the problem??
how to get songs fron the pc to the phone and i already tied to hook it up with the usb and the MMC/SD card
email me at zmanlizard@aol.com
ok well i love this phone but how do you get music onto….like how do you upload music from your computer cause i dont see a usb port on the phone…email me mjackh90@yahoo.com if u know thanks or just aim me or add me on myspace…thanks myspace.com/uhhdq ……. aim= mikethehouse16….thanks again peace out
LOADING MUSIC ON ENV WITHOUT BITPIM (the computer illiterate version). If you have an SD Card reader in your computer and are using media player 10, I found that transfering music to the card automatically places it in the My Sounds folder which doesn’t play on the phone (and you can’t click and drag the files in media player). What you have to do after you transfer the music to your memory card, go to My Computer on your computer desktop, open the SD Card drive where you’ll see all the folders and the music you just transfered. THEN, you can click and drag all the files to your My Music folder from here and they should play just fine after that.
Ok. I WAS wondering if its possible to be able to hang anything off of the EN V phone. i have it. and what i mean by hanging off i mean like an accesorie type thing. Some other phones have a small are on the tips of them to hang off little things. And i was wondering if the En v is capable of doing that?
The next EnV aka VX9100 is coming out in Europe end of 1st Quarter – Beginning of 2nd Quarter. The Voyager is not the replacer of EnV, which some people may have thought. Please check the link below and also search on youtube “LG VX9100″ Chat with me about EnV or new cell at AIM eatfishy
http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/Updated-LG-VX9100-and-VX8610-coming-to-Verizon-article-a_2454.html
My camera doesn’t work all the time. I was wondering if anyone has a solution for me. I will hit the camera button and the please wait screen comes on and eventually the phone will restart. The camera doesn’t work all the time. I have called Verizon on this and no one seems to have an answer. Maybe I need a software upgrade or something. Please email me with any information on this. Thanks!
[Comment ID #41656 Will Be Quoted Here]
If it is a software thing….dial *228 from your Env and select the “Program you phone” option (its either 1 or 2) you phone will reboot when it is done…now after ypu do that, you security code will be changed to the last 4 digits of your phone number but that will give you a software upgrade if you needed it…otherwise just get a new one
how do you cut the song down to a 20-30 sec clip???
Help. I cant get music to play. I downloaded from my pc to the memory card, but it doesn’t show up on my phone. How do I play the music. It shows up when I plug card into computer and plays fine. Also, having trouble with sync. Purchased package, but shows “phone not connected” on computer when I try to sync and “connect failure” on phone. What am I doing wrong.
Format the card in your phone first. Folders for music, flix, and pics will be created. Finally just place the proper files into the correct folders.
I just did the drag and drop of “music” to “my music” as explained by Curt and when I try to play it I get a player error. Now whats wrong.
My card was formatted and I have all my music in the “my music” folder. When I try to play it says theres no music there.
Sometimes, my main screen just goes black and I’ve touched the clear or ok buttons, but nothing happens, so I end up having to turn the phone off/on to get the screen back up. My phone has even frozen up too when I’m IMing thru yahoo. Has this happened to anyone else?
Ok guys I nEED HELP !!!! I hope someone knows how to do this !!!…
I just purchased my new ENV and i still haven’t activated it in verizon …but i locked the phone by mistake…and i dont know the phone lock code….when i checked in the user manual it says that it’s the last 4 numbers of your cel number!!! but i dont have a number yet and my phone is locked !!! HELP ME PLEASE
Well for those who have questions about ring tones and why you cannot forward them isn’t simply the DRM protection/Removal it’s the file size of the song if you clip ya ring tone and keep it under 400kb you will be able to use that tone to forward to any carrier but remember to forward /send tone it must be saved in My Sounds not Ring Tones in order to send,So in this case when you have a tone sent to your Inbox you can save it in both folder’s.Ventones/Myxer cool sites Ventones also allows you to make animated .Gif Peace!
0000 to unlock or 1111
how do you change the time on the env if it didn’t change automatically for daylight savings?
It won’t change, automatically, until 2 am Sunday.
[Comment ID #41834 Will Be Quoted Here]
Yup, most of these CDMA phones get the time from cell phone towers, so you there won’t be any options regarding setting the time. Only smart phones like blackberry will allow modification. So as long as Verizon doesn’t make an time error, you have nothing to worry about. Time will be correct.
Hey I’m ordering a orange enV right now, and was just wondering (because I want to buy a memory card to hold music for it) what kind works nicely with the phone. Or if some dont work with the phone. let me know thanks.
so i just synced three songs from computer to my LG Envy. for some reason i thought onced it said sync complete that the songs would show up in my ringtones folder or the my my sounds folder. i used the vcast music manager by the way. how do i found the songs i just uploaded, and can i set them as ringtones w/o the SD memeory card thing?
okay so after further review, i found the songs on the vcast site.for some reason i thought once i uploaded songs i could use them as ringtones.question still remains though, is there a way to get songs and use them as ringtones w/o having a SD memory card
Hello everyone long time no see, but I do read all the comments through my e-mails. For those of you who wish to download ringtones the easy way. Myer.com is workinging great again. I received 3 new ringtones the other day in a matter of minutes. Don’t know how long this will last. But, for the present it seems just fine.
So sorry everyone I must be groggy, MYXER (myxertones) not myer, my apologies.
anyone point me in the direction of the usb drivers for the enV?
Does anyone know what the symbol (icon) on the Front Screen #3 key and on the Inside Screen F key is for and how to use it?
Thanks…
Hey Dee! That is to turn the flash on and off while using the camera. Hope that helps!
I just got a LG enV last week. It kept freezing when I texted on it and I would have to take the battery out. It did this every time I would text. It stopped for a little while. But like 2 days later it has started agian. What should I do?!
Take it back asap and get a new one. I’ve had mine almost a year and it’s never done that.
Marisa, I totally agree take it back, mine has never acted like yours…
For the poster who had the problem with the MP3s not showing…try shortening your filenames. I found that if I had filenames that were longer than a track number and song name, they wouldn’t show up in the music list. I’m not sure what the upper limit to characters in the filename is, but that’s why it happens
Hey! Victoria and Jodi! Thanks so much! I took it back, and they said something was wrong with the software and gave me a new one! It is working perfectly now!
That happened to me (twice) with my E815. I hated that phone. lol! I love this one!
Hi I have an orange 9900 Env and I love it.I have used Bitpim to download my own ringtones which is a great feature. My problem is I cant figure out how to remove some of the ringtones I have added.I tried to remove them from the delete area of the phone and from Bitpim but they still don’t get removed.Has any one else had this problem?.Thx Carl
Has anyone figured out how to alter the 50 message limit on the inbox for the enV using Bitpim, just curious??
To Jeff,
No you can not alter the 50 message limit. But sometimes you can go over. It just depends on your sent messages also.
Does anyone have any tips on viewing youtube on the phone in the browser w/o signing up for vcast. I see the actual website has a flash needed that the phone cannot support?
I’m using realplayer to copy to memory card. How do I shorten the file name like 23112 says.
Does anyone have a problem with their front display getting all distorted and inverted (you pretty much cant read anything), the bigger display just shows up in gray. Anyone know whats up with it? Its happened about 5 times since ive owned it (since Christmas).
Ok, I took it to verizon and had it “flashed” and now some will show up on phone and some won’t. There seems to be no set reason for it. Can anyone give me a suggestion?
this fone is dey besttttttttttttttttttt!

Got the phone last of Feb. and now the front screen does not work. Took it in to the store and they said something has been pressed hard on the screen. The phone has not been dropped and front displayed is not cracked. Has anyone else had this problem?
Just wondering, but how many of you would consider getting the new LG enV2?
Here’s the info: http://skattertech.com/2008/03/verizon-announces-the-lg-slim-env2/
I’ll try to get hold of a unit for review shortly, so check the homepage for the latest info!

Mine has the exact same problem. I had the phone in my pocket, took it out to use it, and the lcd was black. It has a small hairline in the lcd. I don’t understand how pressure could cause this because it didn’t crack the external plastic cover. I went into the Verizon store and the tech said it was a common problem. He gave me the number for warranty service and they are supposed to send me a new phone. I am hoping they do not declare it physical damage because then I would be responsible for paying retail for the new phone.
I just Got my enV Today, and all i have to say is WOW! Excellent Camera, Aim works PERFECT, Many Options I was Speechless, Can’t ask for A Better Phone.
These phones are great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I formatted my SD card in the phone, connected the card reader to the CPU, inserted the card into the card reader and synch’d various songs onto the card from Windows Media Player. I moved the songs from the Music folder on the card into the “My Music” folder and yet I still cannot get them to come up on the phone. Any ideas what I am doing wrong or need to do yet??
I can copy pics from CPU to the card via the reader and they show and work well on the phone, but have this problem with music files for some reason.
Has anyone with a player error problem found a solution yet? I need help with mine too.
Hi: Was wondering if anyone has been experiencing trouble sending and receiving text messages from other cell phone providers? Have had the ENV for just about 2 months but have noticed in the last 2 weeks that not all my text messages are going through when I send or when I receive. Am still waiting to hear from Verizon as to whether they can find out what the problem is and why it’s just started happening. Seems to be very sporadic, i.e., some messages come through and go through and others don’t. Thanks!
my phone wont let me delete the inbox it is full!!
help me please
Okay so I have had my Envy for a few months now, but for the past few weeks the charger has been really hard to get into the phone, and the acutal charging dock in the phone seems to be a little sideways. Also the phone was not charging unless the charger was inperfectly – it would take me 10 mins just to get the thing to start charging. Anyways lastnight I was attemting to charge it and the charger got stuck in the phone, so I was trying to get it out and I ripped out the entire charging dock thing OUT OF THE PHONE! I do not understand how this even happend? Verizon won’t try and blame this on me right? I mean its not like I was being rough with the phone! I could’nt even believe it! HELP.
Have the orange env and it keeps turning off. Verizon has replaced it twice
and it still does it. Have done all of the updates with no luck.
Any help with this?
How do you send ringtones from my phone (the enV) to another?
i just got the en v yesterday, and i had a schhol dance and i used the camera there and it worked perfectly. But when i tried using it today it just shuts off and re starts. Also when i try and look at my pictures the same thing happens. i tried the *228 re-boot thing but it didnt work. please comment here for a solution. thank you :)
just wondering, is this phone locked to verizon.
and also, can i get it in australia.
PLEASE HELP!

Yes I’ve been having the same problem… with calls too. It just stops sending/receiving after a while, even when it says I have full reception.

To all enV Fans:
I just watned to let you all know that the review of the LG enV2 for Verizon Wireless has now been published on our homepage! Please take a look and feel free to ask any questions about the phone!
http://skattertech.com/2008/05/lg-vx9100-env2-verizon-wireless/
How many of you think you’ll be upgrading to that phone?
-Sahas Katta (Skatter Tech Admin)
So, I had this phone for about two months and it would constantly turn off for no reason. So, I’d miss important calls because I wouldn’t realize my phone had turned itself off (while it was on full battery). Turned the phone into to Verizon and got a new one. While I was there, another girl with the green enV (mine is silver) came in with the same problem. Another guy dropped off the orange because the screen had broken and another kid was picking up a silver one. All within a 15-20 minute time span.
Well, not even 24 hours after getting my new phone the screen broke on mine. I took it back to Verizon and have the enV 2 now. Hopefully this one will last a little longer.
I really like the phone, but it’s not worth all the hassle because its constantly breaking.
[Comment ID #45103 Will Be Quoted Here]
WOW. I hope that isn’t the case with the build quality of the enV these days. I got my enV about 1.5 years ago and it has been working perfectly. Not a problem since. I have dropped it and its gone through a lot of ordeal and it has been running just perfectly. Let’s hope that was just one instance.
I have probably had my EnV for close to a year now, and I do have a case on mine, but shoot I have dropped it more than once that is for sure! No problems. Knock on wood! But, truthfully I am surprised to hear about these problems. I hope you have better luck with this model you just got.
i like the phone, but i hate the text message limit. There should be an option to save them on a micro SD card. I hate having to delete them so often.
the bottom row of keys on my green enV don’t light up anyomore. has anyone else had this problem and if so how can it be fixed?
[Comment ID #45161 Will Be Quoted Here]
if you go to the settings page on the messages tab, you can set it to auto delete…the only thing it will not auto erase is pic messages…thats what i do..and if there is any texts you wanna keep, you can just lock them
I am on my second env phone. It too has been shutting off and turning back on. Right in the middle of texting. Or I don’t have to be doing anything at all it will just shut off. I just got the new phone today same thing keeps happening. Yeah the phone is cool. But it sucks when texting and the phone shuts off. Or the messages thru yahoo messenger don’t go thru all the time. Or some times the same message goes through twice. The phone also doesnt refresh contact list. Its annoying. I have to sign out of yahoo IM and sign back in just to see if my contact is truly on or he signed off. Sigh.. This phone is annoying. And the camera lol. The position to snap the picture is ridiculous. So forget trying to do it one handed. The only good thing about this phone is the battery lasts a long time.
Wow, you are certainly having some bad luck, I haven’t had any of the problems that you mentioned above. The camera, well, I wasn’t expecting much there anyway. It is slow and you really have to have some good light or everything will be pretty dark. But, mine has never shut off, I don’t even lose calls unless the people I am talking to have a different carrier. I think you need to take Another trip to the phone store. Good Luck!
hey is there anyway that i can increase the amount of text messages it can hold. it gets really annoying when i get to 40 and it keeps telling me to delete. Thanks
I have had the VX9900 for several months and have enjoyed it as a phone, reading my e-mail and the vznavigater is great. I have created my own ring tones … as well ans various pics to the card. But for the love of Pete, how do you see a movie or a clip. Would the I Pod media work? Thanks
[Comment ID #41900 Will Be Quoted Here]
use a program called bit pim it will swap or install any song you want on the ENV 9900 i use my own ringers, and sounds… and this way Verizon or at&T dont get a bite outta me for my ringtones….
get a larger memory card
I had a good ENV for over a year, then about a month ago, when i would go onto AIM, it would freeze.. okie.. i take it in, they ship me a new phone. a month later, same problem.. okie.. so i take it back.. get a new phone.. STILL the phone would freeze when entering the IM section… SO i take it back.. This is the 4th phone with in a month or two… Now, the buttons get stuck. its soo annoying when playing ZUMA. So i take it back. they give me a new one, with a little bit of a hassel, but i called the cost. service number the night i got the replacement phone and told them to log it in my account, since i was not aware when i will be able to take it back. so less then a week later, i return the phone to get a new one.. LONG AND BEHOLD.. THE BUTTONS STILL GET STUCK WHEN PLAYING ZUMA..
WHY? The lady in the store, said, i could get a new phone, with the new every 2 years, but that would push me back another 22 months.
anyone have this problem
Is there anyway to set a specific ringtone for just one person’s text messages? I know you can have different ringtones for when different people call, but can you do that with text messages?
A friend of mine has one and I was wondering if anyone else has had any issues with sending or recieving files over bluetooth with it?
I was thinking about getting this phone but i was just curious about the AIM service on it. i’ve used AIM on other verizon phones and it sucks. its just too slow and the process is annoying. i wanted to know if since this is a more advanced phone is the AIM service any better. and if it is better, is it more similar to the crappy aim on other phones or possibly the aim service on sidekicks.
I am having some issues with my pictures and camera. Just bought the VX9900 about 2 months ago. 1st issue- When I go to my pics they start to load and then it goes back to the VCast page. Saving options is to phone but I do have a MicroSD card. Anyone know how to fix this? And when I go to take a picture it takes a few minutes to decide to auto-focus and take the picture!! Any ideas? I appreciate any help with the above!! Thanks!
You wouldn’t believe what my phone went through and survived (for the most part). I couldn’t find it and looked for it everywhere. This morning my husband called and said he found it. It was on the driveway and had been run over at least once. Of course the screens were broken but, other than that, it calls and responds just like usual. There aren’t even many scratches on it. Anyone got a broken one I could have to change the screens out with? Also, does anyone know how I could get my calendar off the phone. I have a lot of appointments in there but can’t see them!
I have had the envy for 3 months now and I am having trouble putting music on my phone. For some reason certain songs come up as restricted due to licensing. These are all songs that I had in MP3 format on my computer from CDs that I own. Is there anyway around this?
I’m getting one for my birthday… and i really want a light blue one… but they don’t have light blue!!!!!!!!!
I have had a lot of problems with my enV and I was wondering if anyone else has has the same problem. My problem seems to be that every few months my phone will stop charging all together. A few of my friends have this phone and have encountered this problem and i wonder if anyone else has to. Please let me know
I recently just found the usb cable for my phone and I was wondering if I need a memory card to hold my songs because it wont let me upload more than one or two songs.
yes you do u can get a 2gb for like $20 or less online
This is my second vx9900 I’ve had, and I’m absolutely ready to forget about buying an LG cell phone ever again. I first had the issue of where the phone would shut down at any given time– mid-texting, mid-conversation, any time. I found out that this is a known issue with a magnet being too close to the battery and sometimes confusing it and getting it to shut off. Hoo boy.
After that, I took the charger out of my phone and wires from the circuit board ended up coming loose and bending in the carriage. Even now this wasn’t too bad.
However, when I eventually could not send or receive calls, and when I couldn’t even hear my own voicemail messages, I was done. I went to replace my phone, and Verizon wanted to charge me $20 for “physical damage”! After convincing them that charging me money for this is as heinous as beating little puppies and kittens, they sent me a replacement vx9900.
I get the phone on Thursday July 10th, transfer everything I wanted onto it on the 12th, and I should have no issues, right? RIGHT? Once again, I’m proven that I can never have nice things for too long, because last night, the 13th, is when I discovered I STILL COULD NOT SEND OR RECEIVE CALLS. FURTHERMORE, I STILL COULD NOT CHECK MY VOICEMAIL MESSAGES. I missed out on managing my client’s next DJing gig because this phone was doing nothing but being a thorn in my side. Is Verizon going to credit me the $1200 in which we would’ve made that night? That’s going to be the same answer as, “Are you ever buying an LG phone again?” NO.
Glenn,
I’ve had my phone since May 05, ’07 and it’s NEVER given me a single problem. Of course, it’s a ver01 phone. I never upgraded because ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’. Seems to me that I’ve been reading about problems with ver02. This is my first LG and I love it.
i am gettting the green env for my birthday on Aug. 23 i really hope i do not have any problems with it because i have been waiting since january to get a cell phone!!!
Wow, guys hearing so many pros and cons here, I have had my EnV 9900 for about a year now. Really no problems, charging, dropping calls or any of that. I just didn’t bother with the usb and just downloaded my songs onto my micro memory card, after changing them to the mp3 format using super (free program off the net) it was pretty easy even for someone like me.I do notice that the button sticks a little when I try to play pac man, but then I rarely try to play anyway since the buttons are pretty darn small to start with. The texting is great love the board! As 4 pix, yeah the camera is a little slow, but there are quite a few options to play with at the bottom of the screen and that makes it interesting. I notice now I can’t send very many songs to my friends in e-mails as they are protected, even though they came from my own downloaded songs that were on my computer. This seems to be something new and I also noticed that I can’t get free downloaded ring tones from Myertones anymore which I used to do. I guess Verizon is trying to lock everything up….What a shame, but besides that I do think they offer the best customer service if you speak to the right persons. Never had a problem there. Good luck to all of you and sorry so many problems. Maybe the earlier versions were superior to the ones they are putting out now. V
Victoria,
>Maybe the earlier versions were superior to the ones they are putting out now
That’s what it sounds like to me since I’ve also had my phone for well over a year. I think, when you’re dealing with electronics, trying to correct minor problems could potentially cause major ones. Or, if you get a replacement phone, it’s usually a refurbished one, which might be the problem.
Jodi
im about 2 lose all of the memory(pics/videos/contacts/#s) on my enV because it 1st had trouble starting up alot and then it shut off on me randomly and now it wont turn on at all…any suggestions on how 2 fix it???
[Comment ID #44656 Will Be Quoted Here]
I’m having the same problem as you but only with Metro PCS users. The problem comes and goes and it’s aggrivating. Does anyone know what to do about it?
I have problems with the EnV shutting off when charging, picking up a call or even sending a text. A lot of times I don’t know how long it’s been off until I turn it on, only to find five messages have been left. Very annoying…After reading the other comments about problems with replacement phones, I’m thinking about taking my chances with this one as it is rather than risk problems with the screen or text messages with a replacement phone. I’ve only had this one for five months. The problem with shutting down started about six weeks ago. My assistant claims this is a feature (to save the battery when the phone is inactive). I claim it to be a flaw, especially when I am using the phone!
>My assistant claims this is a feature (to save the battery when the phone is inactive).
No, it’s not. It sounds like a glitch with the newer phones. Mine is over a year old and the only time it shuts off on it’s own is when the battery runs out. I always charge mine the minute it hits 1 bar.
hey! well i was on her beforee. and i said my phone wouldnt let me send text messages. so i took it to the store. and they said they would have it ready in a couple hours. and it took like 3 days! they said something was wrong with the software. so they just gave me a new phone. but come on! 3 days!
*228 is not a re-boot. it verifies any new towers that Verizon may have made.
you have to shut the phone down, then take the battery out to re-boot.
Well my 5th env phone. Same thing every time. It shuts on and off while using yahoo messenger. This time it was shutting off while using the phone. 5/5 phones all have done the same thing. I’ve turned in my env and now have an env2 lets hope I do not have similar problems. Quite annoying running to phone store every week.
my wonderful envy vx9900 phone fell into some water. I took the battery out and let her dry out. When I plugged her into charge she lit up as normal, and even worked. But the charge said it was complete after 10 seconds. When I unplugged her to see if she really worked she immediatly dies. I plugged her back in and get a blue screen that says vx9900 and an arrow pointing down. Does it just need a new battery? is there any hope that my phone will work again?
KJO, I wish you luck with your water soaked phone, I have dropped mine, in the toilet of course! I immediately have taken out the battery, that always seems to be critical. Then I have hooked up a hair dryer and left it at a safe distance from my phone before I ever try to re-install the battery and turn it on. It even worked for my bluetooth that actually fell in a rain puddle. I wish you luck, but if your turned your phone on and re-installed the battery before it was completely dry you might have a problem and will have to take it in, they KNOW when it’s been water damaged believe me. Good luck to you…
KJO – same problem here after a quik dip in the water… now it works perfectly on charger in fact I can call and text just fine but unplug it and it dies… I would luv to here the answer to this that has a $$ of less then $100 :)
HEY I 13 AND FOR MY BIRTHDAY I WANT TO BUY MYSLEF ONE BUT I’M NOT SURE IF I SHOULD GET IT. WHAT DO I DO.
Does anyone know where i can get this phone in melbourne?
I bought a refurb ENV (orange) from a guy on ebay. The phone was brand spanking new except for the battery. I lovethis phone! I don’t plan on adding any music to it as I already have an iPod. I got it for texting. I was using a Krzr fire before I got this. this phone blows the Krzr out of the water. It’s a little chunky but I like that because now I’m not contantly checking my pocket to see if it’s still there. My daughter has the ENV 2. She loves it.
And FYI, If you drop your phone in water or if it is exposed to moisture, Verizon will know because if you take the battery off there is an indicator on the phone that turns pink when the phone has been exposed to water, etc.
does anybody know about the system operatif of the env cuz i want to run the scummv for games
My enV is working fine..it receives calls and I can call out, but I cant here anything! The ringtone I can here, but when I call people or they call me I cannot hear them and I cant even hear my voicemail! Any thoughts?
Jillian if you have your bluetooth on then that may be the reason you cannot hear on your handset. That is the only thing I can think it would be.
I’m just catching onto a problem with my phone. Someone called me 4 times yesterday and it doesn’t show up on my ‘received calls’. He called me earlier today and it was there. He just called me again and his most recent call replaced the previous one in ‘received calls’. He’s also on Verizon so a different carrier isn’t the issue. I’m sure this happened with other calls (also Verizon) because my call list should be a lot longer than it is. Anyone else having this problem?
LOVE THIS PHONE!!! best phone ever
i havethat fone its actually quiet nic buht i just got iht and dont kno really much about iht like how to put picutures on myspace from it
ummm i really want the evV-orange but does verizon still sell them?? and if they do..how much r they??
No, They don’t have them anymore. Go to ebay, Find a reputable seller and buy one there. Just make sure they guarantee a clear ESN
I got my enV just yesterday and i love it. I dont know how to turn off the sound when it sends me a text it’ll say message from. its annoying. HELPP!
i had that happen and it happened right after i used a magnet over it. just call verizon and have them reset it.
whenever you drop a phone in water, put in a bag of rice overnight, just learned this from my teenagers,it definitely works- just picked the phone up from verizon store then dropped in a puddle the next day, no way I was going to go back, so after the dry rice soaked up all the moisture, worked like new-oh yeah it is new
jj in la – - that’s the normal function of the list, unfortunately. I expense my minutes for work and if someone calls me again before I have recorded the number of minutes, it’s a hassle. I don’t know why the most recent of the four calls yesterday didn’t show up the list, though. :-(
kkh – this is a relatively new problem. It didn’t do that for the 1st year that I had it. I bought it in May ’07. I get a new phone in January (I’m going for the 9100) so I don’t have to deal with it for much longer.
I have the env1 and its very nice except for when I recently purchased my memory card, it did not work. I tried everything, I guess I have to take it back to the store. My next phone will be by verizon wireless, but I’m getting the Voyager.
THE ENV ORANGE IS THE BEST PHONE ON THE FACE OF THIS PLANET ;] NUFF SAID.
think about it.. that eN9900 has been on the market for over 2 years .. wheres the new lg series phones. i gave my enV (reg vx9900) toi my son and went back to my lg vx8000.. gonna order an usb cable and i should be able to do all i want to.. and not be paying for services that i bought to get the phone with said acces. .. it should be a crime to sell someone a phone for about 300 that can do all these extras and then charge for the usage of the extras. crap you paid for them when you bought the phone… no sir,,, its me and my vx 8000 from now on… when it dies its insured they will have to replace it .. of course after i by it again for 50 bucks which i figure is about all that verizon etc buys them for in bulk anyways..
papa I agree with you. If they say the phone can do this and that then they shouldn’t charge you extra for the services. but unfortunatly that is how things are these days. If you are interested in totally free ring tones that work with the Env check out Myxer. Not only can you down load ringtones there you can use their software and make your own from your own music files. This is not a promo as I have nothing to do with ownership of the site. Just a member.
yer right about the enV 9900 ..bitbim will also allow a person inside the phone to setup new ringtones from music thats on hand. add new contacts or remove or copy existing contacts, ringtone’s, etc,, i love the user friendly bitpim… but like i said i got tired of trying to use the keyboard when i didnt get or send many no how.. after all i am 60 so i dont have girl friend etc to stay real close with.. i have seen there is a hack for my LG VX8000 and i plan to get the cable (usb) and run their program to get the ring tones i want.. one in particular (in case yer interested) is “water mans blues” by the waterboys a little not know group. but if one hears it and listens to the wordings.. it makes good sense.. ty and enjoy..
I recently purchased my enV (silver, it had green but I didn’t like it)
off of Amazon, and it’s great!
But, they advertise vCast and that’s something that appealed to me along with the internet- but of course, Verizon makes you pay 10 times more than the original price for extras. I had Sprint before and I’m willing to go back. I didn’t have to pay for the internet as an extra, it came with the data plan. I also had a FREE music player on my Fusic, and I could put anything I wanted on it (well, it had a limit with my megabytes).
Right now I’m in the process of getting USB cables for my memory card from my Fusic. I might just end my contract with Verizon and renew my contract with Sprint- it’s not over yet. The camera is difficult to position self-shots. I can’t keep my thumb from getting in the shot. The camera on my Fusic (it’s a flip phone by the way) you can take the picture with it open, but you can also see what you’re taking a picture of. I tried testing it, but the camera was not positioning to get me, and it was really fuzzy and horrible.
Well there’s my rant, Verizon! Gosh.
you know its a tireing thing to come here and see coments about phones that are 2 to 3 years old.. like the verizon aka?:LG enV
some one said they just got their silver enV and was thinking about canceling their contract with verizon.. welp that has a prise tag on it.. yep $175.00 to cancel and they probably hooked ya for a 2 year contract at that. i know i have been down that street before… why verizon wants to do people the way they do is beyond sound reasoning. crap after all. we do not have to give them our business.. next what did we all do before all of these cell phones came on the market.. we were free from being called while busy doing something else. we were free from an additional phone in our homes.. oh we might take that one out but as soon as yer children move out have grand kids .. you might miss an important call.. so we get the land line back,, and an answering machine… but look at the time we waste on a cell phone.. now we have a land line that cost nothing to use beyond the service fees. which most also use as a dial up for internet. and if we were wise enough.. we would put callwave on the cpu and know whos calling and hear part of the msg and pick up the phone and knock ourselves off line..
i’ll admit i am one of them people who has all the nuts and bolts ,bells and whistles, but i plan to down shift to bare necessities.. phine rings answers open and talk. wanna call someone ,, and they have to have verizon also so i wont burn precious minutes..naw i think all the post from 2006 and 2007 should be trashed.. and what ever comes in then would at least be up to date.
but we have all turned into plasma screend, or lcd screend cell phone dependant electronic must havers.. now get this straight i am not talking to anyone in particular ..just about me .. and i have come to a discision.. cut back, cut back, cut back…. i may even give up my home phone..but some gov folks demand an home phone # if you want to have any dealings with them..
oh well now its time to play with my new laptop which i believe was a reworked laptop because one number under it says 2700 and the other number says 2945..a 64 bit machine that will run 32 or 64 bit proggies in a flash.. see there even i at 60 want more technology in and around me.. but what about the rumor that cell phones used daily can be harmfull to our brains.. because we are exposing ourselves to low dosage rediation every time we chatter to one of our buddies.pros and cons to ev thing. and no i dont want to go back to pay phones.. everyone coughing into the mouth piece ,, those with aids hivs, faggots, and serveral people make a common pay phone a thing of the past and now we are all in debt to a cell phone company..what a mess we have gotten ourselves into.,. ok i also had an enV silver .. it was neat use bit pim and you can send any song via usb right into yer phone.. or store psongs etc .. had a navigatotm web, ev thing one could imagine,, and each month there was an new bill for a phone ,, for $105.. thats a lots of movies .. enjoy,,
IF IT GETS ANNOYINGG TO YOU THEN WHYY DO YOU KEEP LOOKING AT THE COMMENTS??
i have the lg env vx9900, i dropped it in the toilet and now it doesnt turn on or anything. when i plug it in the charger it says VX9900 and then an arrow under it pointing down and it doesnt work if i press any buttons. How do i get it to work??
I dropping mine in the toilet last summer but fished it out as soon as it hit the water. I immediately took out the battery, opened up the phone and used a very soft cotton cloth to mop up the wet parts, then I left it on a table in the sun (it was a very hot day) and, after 6 hours, put it back together. I had to charge it but it finally worked again. It doesn’t sound like you did any of that so, I’m sorry to say, it might be too late to salvage it.
Does anyone know if this phone would work in Poland? Or would it work if i put my polish sim card?
how do I pair my env to my motorola h700 bluetooth
I’ve had three of these phones. I am not a fan. The keyboard is too long for my short fingers to reach all the keys. Plus the call sound quality is HORRIBLE, people always complain that they cannot hear me. Just ordered a new phone, my boyfriend refuses to talk to me on it because the sound is so awful
ok…
so i got the env 2 for christmas this year…
and up till last month the sound worked fine…. but now, i cant hear any ringtones and my speakre phone doesnt work

Why do so many people ask questions or leave useless comments simply so they can spam? All it does is waste people’s time which also make them not want to come here any more because there are so many useless pages that are full of meaningless comments on here.
I’ve seen plenty of forums that were obviously ran by kids, but this is by far the worst moderated forum that I have ever seen!
This forum’s domain should be remained to [i]spamalot.kids[/i] or something…
Need hard reset for LG VX9900
Need hard reset for LG VX9900( foget user code)
Does anyone know how to turn off the email alert on an lg env touch? I still want to be able to access my email, I just don’t want to hear a tone or get a notice every time I get a new one. My email is too busy for that and I don’t need a notification every single time I get a new email.
I sure would like to find this out too. That beep is driving me crazy!
Hi. Can anyone help me if this phone can be used in the Philippines using SIM card?
Pls help me….i really would like to know if i can use sim card from my country on this phone.
No. CDMA phones do not use SIM cards.
It’s absolutely the best phone I’ve ever had, but there is a small annoyance. Whenever I’m texting and I hit ‘Sym’, then ’9′ for a (, it just goes ahead and types ‘(io)’ by itself. It’s annoying and I would appreciate some help.
suddenly my lg vx9900 wont let me hear incoming calls or allow my calls to hear me. was working fine an hour ago………any ideas?
