Moto KRZR Review (Verizon) 383
As we mentioned last Friday, Skatter Tech was able to get a hold of the brand new Motorola KRZR K1m for Verizon Wireless. The KRZR’s features include a 1.3MP camera, MicroSD, speaker phone, external iPod-like touch-sensitive controls, Bluetooth, and V Cast Music/Video. We had high expectations and hoped that the phone would be as good as it looked, unfortunately we ended up being quite disappointed.
Motorola KRZR K1m Specs:
- Provider: Verizon Wireless (CDMA)
- Form Factor: Clamshell Flip Phone
- Dimensions: 4.05H x 1.73W x 0.67D (inches)
- Weight / Battery Life: 3.6oz / 4hrs30mins
- Digital Camera: 1.3 megapixels
- Storage Space: MicroSD expansion (2GB max)
- Communications: Bluetooth + USB
- Others: Speaker Phone and Music Controls
- Price: $199 with new 2 year contract
KRZR Body – 5/5 stars
The shape of the KRZR is much more comfortable and natural to hold compared the RAZR. The phone is way skinnier than the RAZR, but is slightly thicker and taller. At first glance the phone looks expensive, sleek, slim, and glossy, however just as a PSP or an iPod the, KRZR’s coat is prone to fingerprints from even the slightest touch. Motorola has improvised the keypad dividing them with more natural grooves which helps finding keys, without looking, much easier.
Digital Camera – 2/5 stars
The KRZR’s 1.3 megapixel camera is pretty much the same as the one in the RAZR v3m. Other KRZR models have a 2 megapixel camera, however Verizon’s K1m has been cut down to keep prices low. Motorola has also failed to add a flash to the phone, which although not too powerful often will be handy when taking close up shots in the dark.
Display – 4/5 stars
The internal display is much crisper and brighter than that of the Motorola v3m. However it is extremely delicate and placing even the slightest amount of pressure causes the “ripple effect” in the LCD which may damage the display. The external display is a bit dull and with the fingerprints all over, it may be hard to see in sunlight.
Music Playback – 4/5 stars
Unlike the RAZR, the KRZR supports Mp3 playback as well as WMA and V Cast Music. Verizon’s Media Player is well developed and makes browsing through music easy. Users can view songs by artists, albums, genres, or search just as iPods do. The media player also offers the use of playlists, library shuffle, and even display’s album art. The #1 problem is that users must navigate through many menus before they can get their music started. (Can be annoying for people who plan to listen to music a lot.)
External Controls – 3/5 stars
The addition of external touch-sensitive music controls, which the RAZR lacks, was a good concept, but is flawed. There is no way for a user to start music playback from the external controls, the phone must be opened to do so. The controls are also sometimes too sensitive and the current song may be skipped or paused when the phone is picked up.
Speakers – 4/5 stars
The speaker phone quality is quite clear and has minimal or no static. It sounds more clear and is louder than that of the RAZR, however it is still poorly position on the back of the phone. Both music playback and speakerphone will sound muffled if the phone is in your hand.
MicroSD – 3/5 stars
The KRZR now supports use of up to 2GB MicroSD cards. The space can be used for image, video, and music storage. The card slot is unfortunately placed underneath the battery pack lid making it a hassle to get to. If you don’t have a USB cable and the drivers to sync music back and forth, it will be a pain to remove the card every time to transfer files.
Bluetooth – 5/5
Because Verizon has finally “un-crippled” the Bluetooth, the KRZR can now send phonebook entries, pictures, and other data between devices. When testing the handsfree feature with the Lexus IS250, we found that he KRZR now sends the phone’s signal strength, battery level, and other data to the car’s display, unlike the RAZR.
Overall the KRZR is a decent upgrade from the RAZR v3m. There is however a major lack of innovation. Even so, the KRZR will probably be replacing the current RAZR’s place in the market. If all you need is a phone with basic features that can make calls and looks good, this maybe for you. If you are picky and like customizable feature packed phones, there’s not much that the KRZR can offer. The phone is a bit pricy, currently about $199 with a new 2 year contract or $99 for existing customers eligible for upgrade.
DEAL ALERT: FREE Motorola KRZR K1m (w/ new plan)

Update: Verizon currently charges about $30 for a USB cable and some drivers, but if you already have the cable and are just looking for the drivers you can get it from the link below. Once installed, your phone will be detected as a portable audio device and you will now be able to sync the music in your Windows Media Player Library with your KRZR. After installing you may need to restart your machine. But once complete you will be able to use your computer to charge your KRZR and sync music. To start, go to Get It Now -> Music -> Sync.
Download: Moto_KRZR_Driver.zip (Note: driver found on developer.motorola.com)
Update: If the driver above doesn’t work, try installing the patch from Verizon’s site.

I love the music buttons! They are a great addition to the phone. I slightly disagree that music should be playabke without opening the phone, because that could lead to accidental starting.
If VZW tied the “smart button” below the side volume keys to a menu which could enable music playback, that would be cool.
That leads me to another quam: you can’t change the ringer volume/vibrate etc. without opening the phone. In the RAZR (and my old V60i) you’d just press the “smart button” and use the side volume keys to change the ringer.
Thankfully, you can now select “vibrate AND ring” in the tools menu, but the KRZR STILL lacks a “vibrate THEN ring” mode.
The music player is very good, but VZW needs to let us use music from the Vcast Music Store as ring tones. If you’re going to pay for a song, you should be able to use it as a ringtone as well. Besides that, it would be a good move for VZW to get more people interested in the store…
I got mine today & am disappointed to say the least. Maybe my old sim card is the problem but text memory is pathetic, no option to use the memory card for text storage. Reception is pants, no signal at home most of the time whereas my old Razr always had signal. The designers should be sacked for making such basic errors, it seems they put more effort into the fancy packaging than making the blasted thing work. It is going back tomorrow & I will get a phone from a better manufacturer.
EDIT: Forgot to add for David above, it does have vibe then ring & the vibrate lasts a long time so you can get to it before it rings easily if necessary. They got that bit right.
It´s possible to start the music player without opening the flip, just press and hold the smart/speakerphone button until the touch sensor controls ate lit.
[Comment ID #5893 Will Be Quoted Here]
Fabiano, I just test that and it didn’t work for me. Do you have a Verizon KRZR K1m or a different model? And if you do can you please tell us how you got it to work with some more specific info. Thanks!
My VZW KRZR does NOT have vibrate THEN ring, it does have vibrate AND ring. Small difference, but if you want to catch the phone before it rings, it’s important.
I do like the vibrate AND ring feature, tho, and I think the vibrate is stronger than the RAZR.
David.
Maybe yours has a software glitch as the vibe then ring should be there, that is what I always use & as I said it vibes for ages before it rings so most times you can get to it in time.
My memory problem seems to have gone. Cleared all texts, checked I wasn’t doing anything stupid & the memory filled up again in no time. Cleared it again, switched off, removed battery & memory card, put it all back together again & it worked. Hmmm, must be well sorted software.
Reception is still pants, giving it a go for another couple of days but I reckon that one will be the killer. Phone is no use without a signal, may as well use a banana.
I am sure there is someone out there that knows how to get rid of the lit up “verizon” sign on the outside flip everytime i use the phone. i hate to be a walking advertiser for verizon so blantantly. it would be a lot better to be able to out your own pic in there.
Colin Edge.
I’m really quite baffeled at what KRZR you have, but the Verizon Wireless K1m most certainly DOES NOT have vibrate THEN ring. If you somehow have it, please take a picture and post a link. Thanks.
David
KRZR K1 is what it says on the box, type MQ5-4411A11 to be pedantic. A UK version perhaps. When you consider all the useless tripe they fill these things up with I can’t see why they would omit such a basic feature from one version to the next. Phone Motorola & see if they can make sense of it. I would be more than a little cheesed off if I didn’t have that option.
So how again does one get the play button to light up when the phone is closed?? Mine does not do this either. I think there is a difference between K1m and K1, I’ve got the K1m.
Also, which menu is the Ring then vibrate on? I only see enable/disable vibrate under the sound settings, there is no other option.
Also, my phone does not connect to windows media player after upgrading and all kinds of garbage. I’ve been on the phone with tech support and they just gave up and said “we can’t fix your problem so we’ll inform Motorola” and hopefully they’ll have new drivers soon.
Anyone with the same experience?
Just pirate the music software from the web. Motorola phone tools. DOnt be all fancy with the install for music, just copy from your windows explorer if WMP doesnt work. The phone doesnt play from from the speakerphone button that user was fulla BS. And the reception does suck compaied to the razr
Yes there IS a differance between the K1 and K1m. The K1 is blue, it has a 2mp camera and a 256k color screen. It is only for GSM (T-Mobile, Cingular in the USA, most forign carriers).
The K1m is black. It only has a 1.3mp camera and a 64k color screen. It is for CDMA (verizon and Sprint in the USA). This is the phone I have… It is much more limited in many ways… Also, if you have Verizon, they intall their own User interface and “Operating system” onto all of their phones, so the menu structure is very differnet, adn some options have been dissalowed by Verizon. I believe that changing the ringer with the phone closed falls into this category, based on a comparison of the verizon user manual to the one for the K1m on the motorola site….
Hope this clears up some of the confusion
P.S. – I am assuming if you are in the UK you probably have the blue GSM K1, b/c I don’t think CDMA is big in the UK…
I think I’m sticking with my RAZR.
Personalized ringtones on my krzr do not work. Personalized pictures don’t work either. Outside screen just comes up blank with name. Predictive text doesn’t work with apostrophies. hitting 416 should say i’m but it say i.o… lots of software flaws
If you have the KRZR and it’s not working properly, I would blame it on Verizon before you blame it on Motorola. I have the KRZR on Alltel and it works very well. Vibrate then ring, working predictive text, etc. Verizon dummies down Motorola phones and puts proprietary user interfaces on them (which in my opinion ruins the phone). Head into an Alltel store and check one out – you will be pleased.
yes… it seems that most of the problems on here are being caused by Verizon. They disable many options on their phones (like having to pay for their music, not being able to start the mp3 player from the outside, not being able to use mp3s as ringtons, the list goes on and on). Alltel does less of this, and US Cellular does not disable their phones at all. I think if you guys had the Canary from another carrier you would much happier. You could perhaps unlock your phone, but why not just get it from a decent carrier??
hey. i can’t get my KRZR to sync with windows media player. all the USB cable does is charge the phone, and it doesn’t list the phone as a device in “my computer”. when i open windows media player, it doesn’t recognize a media device is attached. is there any simple way to fix this? thanks.
[Comment ID #6335 Will Be Quoted Here]
Please re-read the bottom of this article. I have specifically provided instructions and drivers to get your KRZR working with Windows Media Player.
sorry about that. i did, however, find a link on answer.com that walked me through it in a simple fashion. thanks for the time. already do love this phone.
How good is the music quailty on the krzr k1m. How does it compare with that of CD quality. Is it clear through the speaker phone and headphones?
Anybody know how to get rid of the lit-up “verizon” sign on the outside screen when the phone is in use? i hate to be a walking advertisement for anyone.
So i know you said there was an asnwer to this in the article but im having the same problem as walt. I used the drivers and it connects and charges but windows MP isnt recognizing it and I cant put any music on it. Also, is there an easy way to upload pictures to/from the phone through the USB cable? i dont really feel like paying for picture messages to myself.
Mick, make sure you are entering the sync mode on your phone. When you do that the phone will stop charging and will appear as a windows portable media device in “My Computer” and will appear under the sync devices list in Windows Media Player. Also if you use this method, you will not be able to directly transfer any other media onto the phone. However you can still do so by removing the card from the KRZR and inserting it into a card reader drive.
[Comment ID #6405 Will Be Quoted Here]
when you have it plugged in via USB, go to “menu->get it now->music and tones->sync mode”. that sorted me out and i had no problems.
one question i had was this: can you use only midi tones as ringtones or are you able to somehow use a clip of an mp3? if not, i am searching for a program to somehow save mp3s as midi. thanks!
Yeah i did that and it just says connection failed. Also, when i connect it it charges it and recognizes the device but windows asks me to instal the drivers for the phone.
I have the KRZR K1m (verizon) and the user guide said “When you close your phone, the external screen shows the time, status indicators, and notifications for incoming calls and other events…..” Is it only short time? After 10 or 15 second, mine is just blank and looks like phone is off. If I touch the smart key or volume keys on the side, it comes back, but do I have to press those keys every time when I check the time or whatever? When I’m charging the phone, the backlight is off, but I can still see the time. Is it some kind of battery saving mode or something? Maybe I should ask verizon, but I want to ask other users first…..
I would like to add that music, pics, and video can be added easily using the SD micro memory card. When you first place the card into the KRZR it will format the card to the way Verizon wants it to be. (You might lose data so do this first. Then it will create folders on the card (my pix, my flix, etc.) You then simply transfer from your pc onto the sd card the mp3′s into my music folder and pics into my pics folder etc. When you place the sd micro back into the phone, whamo. Your stuff is there for you to use. They should have a utility to do this with your phone book but they dont.
any chance you can get the E815 firmware (menu sytem) onto this krzr (or something like it)? Seriously, how bad is the interface on this thing? Just when I thought they had it figured out with my E815 motorola, I get this krzr and ….?.? If you want to really get mad, go to motorola’s website and see their interface, so simple and usable…..?WTF?
I just got a krzr k1m for my birthday, and I CANNOT get windows media player to recognize the device, I tried all the advice on here. But still nothing, the phone says it’s not connceted when it clearly is. Then I get the bubble that pops up and says the computer found a new device but then it won’t install for some reason…I am really confused…HELP!!!
I too am having issues connecting my Verizon KRZR K1m to my PC. Computer recognizes the phone in Device Manager | USB but it does not show up either in My Computer or as an option in WMP.
When I try to put the phone in sync mode, I get a connection failed message after a Version 01.02.006 screen.
I have been able to add content using the SD card, and this is not a huge issue for me, but it would be nice to use the USB to add content, so any help would be appreciated.
The krzr is a great phone. Very stylish. The only minor gripes I have are that it should have more internal memory, and Verizon should have improved the camera quality for the RAZR… http://www.best-mobile-phones.org/review/9-motorola-k1-krzr
I’m seriously contemplating the KRZR for my next phone when Sprint comes out with it. (Supposedly by mid-November.) I’m looking for a yea, or no, all in one opinion from everyone. Obviously I know Sprint’s new software, etc on the phone will be new to everyone, and you can’t comment on that, but overall one the phone…..get it , or look at others?
Any idea where to get the mobile office software for the krzr.
I have tried to get a video to save as the wallpaper and/or my screensaver and it won’t let me pick video from the menu. I’ve seen this on my friends motorola phones and it went as far as to save it to the outside display as well. Any ides on how to make it work for this one? Thanks.
I am also having the USB connection problem with my Verizon krzr. I have been through several levels of Verizon support – they are admitting there is a problem – no promise of when it will be fixed. Sounds like it’s only Verizon though because obviously others have got it to work. Any Verizon users successful?
Joe, Sounds like you and I went through the same garbage. I spent probably about 6-7 hours with the third tier support guys. Actually my phone says it’s “connected” and is recognized by my computer. WMP simply will not acknowledge it. My Wifes laptop Sync fine, the only difference I can see is that I have WMP 10.00.00.4036 and she has 10.00.00.38xx. I forget the exact last digits but she seems to have a slightly older version and I have no idea how to get mine to that exact version.
By the way, any music downloaded by Music Match Jukebox has a DRM such that if you transfer it to the flash card with a card reader, the phone will say there is no liscense and will not play. That’s absolutley retarded, I’m not going to pay twice for my whole collection.
Does anyone know of a good DRM stripping program??
Whats the song on the krzr tv add??
I downloaded music last night via windows media player 10 with a standard USB connection and the motorola supported driver. no issues. (XP as the OS) Any idea on getting video to play as a screensaver and/or wallpaper?
Jeff:
There is a backlight setting in the menu which can be changed from 7, 10, 15, or 30secs. Or setting to to never turn of blacklight will also work. However this will drain battery and isn’t recommended.
ridingsonthewall:
There is no way what so ever to do something as big as rewriting an entire firmware with that of another phone’s one. Only software upgrades possible is by taking it to the Verizon store for upgrades.
ALL People with WMP Errors:
Plugin your phone and go to the Device Manager in My Computer. Select your device and uninstall the driver. Pull out the cable, uninstall any software you installed for this to work, and restart you machine. Try installing the software provided above, and plug in your phone again.
Richard G:
You can purchase the Office Software from Verizon’s Store.
Eric:
The current software firmware on the phone doesn’t support setting a video as a background or a screensaver. However it might become possible once a new firmware is released. Either way we don’t recommend it because it is a amazingly big battery drainer.
@ridingsonthewall: You should be able to take the KRZR in to an Alltel store and pay them to flash it with the Alltel KRZR firmware. Since Verizon and Alltel are on the same network, all you have to do then is take it back to the Verizon store and have them re-activate it (making sure to tell them not to flash the phone). Then you’ll have the easy-to-use default Motorola user interface.
Found a DRM stripping program. Works very nicley. Go to http://jamesholden.net/fairuse4wm-download/ for it. Takes a minute to figure out how to use it but is not hard at all.
Is there a way to get the Motorola user interface back on a Verizon KRZR? Someone said I could talke it to an Alltel store but as I am in NYC there are no Alltel stores. Any other way to do this?
@jonathan you can activate a verizon phone on the internet at their site, this would make it MUCH easier and you dont have to pay. i called them on the phone and they said there was some sort of fee but its free at their website. now if only we can get a handle on the alltel firmware. come on someone!!
I tried all day to get this thing connected to my pc using motorola phone tools. No dice. I followed the directions in a post here using the v3c interface but it would not initialize. Getting very frustrated. I bought it from verizon online and refuse to take it in to pay $10 to transfer my phonebook. This should not be this difficult. Figure it out Verizon! For crying out loud. Motorola people – I’m sure you made a very fine phone. It seems that Verizon would like to ruin it for some strange reason.
ridingsonthewall, I had the same experience, I tried to update the phone tools to the latest but still no go. It will probably work if you go buy the Verizon tools, (basically they are trying to steal the money that belongs to Motorola for creating the phone tools). Verizon has really made this lame. I probably will not buy a Verizon phone next time (that’s if I don’t decide to take this one back sooner).
By the way, does anyone use “BitPim”, any luck with that?
@adam you can check motox.info or howard forums, im trying to do the same thing but nobody has had any luck so far as i can see, i think its cuz no one has leaked the original ui yet, you pretty much have to wait for an update to appear and then someone to leak it so we can finally change it. hopefully its soon cuz the verizon ui sucks huge floppy donkey ****.
sahas:
All (or at least most of)the people with WMP errors really do know what they’re doing. The phone is not working and Verizon knows about it but hasn’t been able to fix it yet. Obviously some krzr phones are working but I haven’t yet seen anyone with a Verizon phone say they’ve got the USB drivers to work.
i have a question. i have a bunch of ringtones, have them set to play for certain contacts, yet every time the phone rings, i still get my default ringtone. anyone else having this problem and know how i could fix it? thanks.
@walt how did you get them on your phone? i would restart my phone so the phone regenerates its ringtone file, then you should be able to tell it to play certain ringtones for contacts. thats all i had to do for mine to get it to work. always restart your phone after adding anything to it. at least thats what i do after working with p2k commander.
can you listin to music on the Krzr K1m with out the head set?
The Moto KRZR has a defect. Although I have only had mine for just under two weeks I am now on my 4th KRZR phone from Verizon Wireless. The backlight on the keypad is defective and does not stay on per the software settings. Often the light does not come on at all. After four KRZRs Verizon has said there is a manufacturer defect from Motorola and the are working on a fix. Despite this one flaw it (which will hopefully be fixed soon) this is still one great phone in terms of style and use.
I can listen to music with the speaker phone just fine. Just start the player with no headset jack in and it should automatically play through the speaker. I don’t find it very enjoyable because it sounds like there’s no bass and all treble but knock your self out.
[Comment ID #6862 Will Be Quoted Here]
Good and Bad news for you. Good News first, your phone isn’t defective. The KRZR has a light sensor which only lets the keypad backlight turn on when it is dark. (KRZR BacklightImage) This helps save the phone’s battery life. Try placing you finger over that spot circled in the image and opening the phone. You’ll realize what it is actually doing. Bad News, you unfortunately have been wasting probably hours doing the exchange process with Verizon. I’m surprised that people at the store are not aware about this feature (non-bug).
I am working with a Verizon KRZR first of all… I purchased a music kit and a Mobile office kit from Vreizon, both of which were for the RAZR not the KRZR. They do not have a kit for the KRZR and can not tell me when they might. I can now charge the KRZR from my lap top, sync with windows media player and make a phone call. I can not however seem to get the Quicklink mobile phone book software to recognize the KRZR nor can I get my PC to recognize the KRZR through the USB cable. Does anyone have any experience getting over these hurdles? Thanks
richard g download the motorola software update program and run it, then connect your phone. this should get the krzr to be recognized by other programs. it certainly works when you want p2kcommander to connect with it.
I got my phone to connect and everything is gravy here is what verizon sent me to do – Please follow the steps below to enable Windows XP to properly detect
the KRZR:
1. Download the necessary patch from this link:
http://support.vzw.com/pdf/Sync_Music_Fix.exe
2. Power the handset on.
3. Connect the USB cable to the PC & the KRZR handset.
4. Click on the download “Sync_Music_Fix” to run the program. Upon
completion it will display “Done”.
5. Power the handset off.
6. Disconnect the USB cable from the PC & the handset.
Once the above steps are completed, you can return to Windows Media
Player and select the music you wish to sync to the KRZR and continue with
the steps below:
1. Power the handset on.
2. Reconnect the handset to the PC with the USB cable.
3. On the KRZR, press “OK” to select the “MENU”.
4. Select “Get It Now”.
5. Select “Get Tunes & Tones” then press “OK”.
6. Select “Sync Music” and press OK.
7. Windows Media Player will launch and the KRZR should now show
“Connected”.
Then…I went to the control panel and went to Add Hardware, and added an mtp device and now it works. Hope this can help someone maybe?
unfortunately, shutting off and turning on the phone doesn’t reset the tones for my ringer. is anyone else having this problem? where you set ringtones for certain callers, and have a default tone, yet EVERY call comes up with the default tone? thanks!
lol @ the backlight issue. I can’t believe they thought it was a defect. It’s amazing how little the people at Verizon know. **help help there are voices coming out of the back of the phone … oh wait my phone’s not defective I accidentally pressed speakerphone**
@Walt… Do you have the
“call vibrate” option turned on in your phone? I’ve read that with it on, it will ring the default every time, another stupid bug. menu>sounds setting>call sounds>call vibrate>off.
Also, I was able to get to get mp3 ringtones to work. I used a sound editing program (soundforge), took the section I wanted to use, saved it as an mp3 at 64kbps to save space, and emailed it to my phone. When recieved, I just viewed it and saved it, it was then selectable with my ringtones. At first I tried the older midi format method, and that didnt work. I believe the files need to be less then 250kb for this to work. Hope this helps.
Elizabeth’s solution worked for my USB problem. Still waiting for the call back from Verizon support.
[Comment ID #6924 Will Be Quoted Here]
thanks for the help with the ringtones about vibrate.
also, i have tried to e-mail myself through e-mail providers, as well as e-mailing them to come up as a text message, but yahoo and hotmail don’t allow me to view attachments, and when i send them as a text to my phone, they don’t even come up. still curious as to how i get these on my phone.
I use gmail, and simply send them as attachments, works every time.
Walt, I am having the same problem with my Verizon KRZR. I downloaded serveral ringtones using Get It Now and one ring tone I set as my default tone and that works ok. But when I set up a ringtone for individual names in my contact list it still just rings the default tone I have set up. I exchanged it once and it still does this. I have tried turning my phone off and taking the battery out to reset it and it worked once but only once then it started acting up again and now it wont work again. I need to know if I have to take it back again.
Sahas…
Thank you so much for this info on the KRZR. I indeed have spent many many hours dealing with this. The interesting part is Verizon Wireless tech support has now determined this (apparently wrong) as a manufacturers software defect and said that a fix is on the way (told in person at VZ HQ and on their phone support line.) In their partial defense perhaps there will be a software change which will assist in the control of the light sensor. I only wish I know about it earlier…..
I spoke with Motorola Tech Support the other day for 45 minutes. They suggested that I return my KRZR to a Moto Repair Shop, an hour away, and they will take the phone for approx 14 days and repair it for me. Oh joy – imagine my delight…… So – question for you – how did you find this out?? If it is the manual I will be embarrassed – but still would love to know Thanks again – Gary
what is the smart button key to turn vibrate on?
Elizabeth…. i love you… i was gettin pissed since i couldn’t sync my phone…with WMP…. now it does… u’re awesome…. just gr8… i got my fone today…. thanx a lot…..
hi, i am looking to get a krzr k1m and i chose this phone because i was going to get the new ipdo nano as weel but as long as i buy a 2gb memory card it would save me money. the question i have is if i listen to alot of music will the battery die fast or is it decent to where i could listen to say an hour of music a day and use the phone moderatly and maybe have to charge it every 1 or 2 days?
[Comment ID #6997 Will Be Quoted Here]
odd, because on mine, it won’t let me view attachments at all on my phone, regardless of whether i try gmail, yahoo, or hotmail to send it from or check it through. i have even tried sending it as a text, but it doesn’t even show up as anything attached.
yes, How many songs can you put on the KrZr K1m, with the stock memory? oh and thanks Will for your help!!
I downloaded the software for the krzr that is at the top of this page and that did not work and I also did what elizabeth said and i still cannot connect my krzr k1m to my computer(it says Connect Failure.) and when it pops up new hardware found, the wizard comes up and i hit install recommended and it searches and cannot find the neccessary software to install the drivers and i have the disk in that came with my music package from verizon. I talked to the people at verizon and they said that there will be new software coming out for the krzr by Oct 31 at this site: http://www.verizonwireless.com/musicessentialsmanager
Hopefully that does come out, but if not maybe someone can help me out?
Gary:
I had the same issue with the keypad light not turning on. I realized it was a light sensor when I had my finger between the screen and keypad and was flipping the phone. :)
Jason:
Battery life is definitely not as good as the new iPod or iPod Nano. Plus if you are using it as a phone as well it may not last two days. But since you mentioned that you will only listen to music for about an hour at max. It may just end up working for you.
Walt:
Same issue, emailing worked with the last generation phones, but hasn’t worked for me either.
moto:
KRZR has about 20MB of internal memory. So about 5 songs if each one is 192kbps and about 3mins.
P.S. Check back soon for a review on the White Chocolate and possibly the improved gray KRZR K1m both for Verizon.
As everyone is saying, I too had problems with my usb to my Krzr. But following Elizabeths instuctions I got the stupid thing to work. Anyhow, my current issue is that I sync music to my SD card, and when I go into get it now music and tones then my music the screen wont upload. Help?
To Myke/Anyone~
I emailed myself a music file (64kbps and small file size… 70KB) and now I do not have any sound. I can hear people talk when they call but there is no sound for ringtones or alarms or anything out of the speaker. I talked to a motorola tech and he got nothing. We went through all the vibrate settings that could keep me off and I did a poweroff as well as a battery removal and re-insert. Any ideas on why I have no speaker function or how to get it back…. any and all help would be appreciated. NOTE: The music tone shows up as a ringtone, but when you play it, you can not hear that either.
Thanks.
There is no Alltel dealers around where I live also. Is there any software/hacking program out there to change the red bars? It’s so unattractive, and yes, I hate being a walking advertisement for Verizon also.
I’ve followed the steps elizabeth provided to properly sync music……..however when i try to sync it says connection failure. Is there a specific motorola cable i need to use, because im just using a standard mini usb cable now. When i plug it into my pc it still says that its found the KRZR K1m, but the sync feature wont work
Edit: One more thing, the buttons on the front of my screen doint light up at all and are completely inactive. Any ideas on how to activate this feature, im a verizon customer.
Edit: I have this same problem too. Loook to the left of your ringtone, do you have a lock symbol there? I have a lock symbol and my phone will not play any audio files
Hi, I was just wondering if anyone know how to transfers music or picture from a SD card to the Krzr? Also is there any way to set up as a ringtone? After reading all the comments I am still confused about my phone and I am completely geting frustred
This topic rocks, I downloaded the software from the link given above by sahas and the patch by Elizabeth, and my KRZR K1m was up and running in 5 minutes with mp3s. Unfortunately I havent bought a memory card yet, so am limited by the internal memory, so transferred few songs. Thanks guys for all the info!
I wish I could use these as ringtones too….
I have been able to transfer mp3′s from my PC to the KRZR, but can’t set my mp3′s as ringtones. Has anyone else been able to set mp3′s as ringtones or know if this phone is capable of doing that? If so, please help…if not, I feel like I’ve been terribly mislead by motorola and verizon…
How do you transfer or edit phone book from k1m/L7c phone? I did installed USB drivers and they work is there a program like it is for Motorolla V710 ?
I have a micro sd card in my Verizon k1m and i am able to put music on it and everything works fine. i still havent got all of the things worked out w/ connecting it to my computer but im not to worried about that. I’m looking for a way to get my ringtones to the phone. i can create .mid ringtones which seem to be the format the default tones on the phone are in but i cant get my own on there. i have tried getting it to set a song as a tone and i have tried emailing a tone to the phone from gmail. any ideas?
How do you transfer the music from the sd card to the phone. Can you give me directions because I am having a hard time. Also, is the front of the phone, suppose to light up, meaning the play and forward buttons by default or is there a way to turn it one. Or mines is just another problem with the phone. This phone has given enough problems and I wish you guys can help if not, then I don’t like this phone.
For anyone having the same problem as i did ( the ringtones were locked up and you couldnt play them but they worked when someone called) i had to trade in my phone for a new one….my new one seems to be doing fine, and now the blue buttons work and the music transfer was successful
is thier a way i can use the mp3s on my krzr to play like ringtones?? i would like to know
Ok so I just got two different stories from verizon. The phone support said you’re supposed to be able to make ringtone files and put them on the flashcard and use them as ringtones. The store said no this phone does not have the capability to bring in outside ringtones and that you can only BUY new ringtones from the online store.
So now I’m working on returning this phone and getting th LG 8300 which my roomate got free software called “bitpim” that syncs his music, calender, phone contacts, pics, and ringtones all for free and never had any problems. Ringtones are playable on that phone and the music player can be started with the phone closed, all of which cannot be done without spending $60 at Verizon and the tech support line cannot even support.
By the way there is a bug with the K1m phone firmware in that if an alarm is going and you hit the talk button on the bluetooth device, the phone locks up and you have to remove the battery to restart (meanwhile the alarm goes on forever!).
Um-Alot of you guys have commented that you got your Micro Card to play music on your phone, help?-
Anyone know how to sync this phone with a Mac? I have all of my contacts in Address Book and Entourage and would like to just dump them into the phone either via USB or Bluetooth. Has Verizon disabled this capability?
i have been having trouble getting my songs to load from my MicroSD memory card. its like my phone freezes every time i try to load the musc files and the my phone temporarily loses service. i think it might be a defect in the phone or maybe in the card. i have no idea. is anyone having the same problems or knows how to fix it ?
Ok, so i was transferring pictures from my imac to my new Krzr via bluetooth, and i know that since the Krzr doesnt have much internal memory to make the file small (but this was an photoshop edited picture, planned to be set for my background) so i changed the quality of the picture and got it down to 2mb (i know still fairly large, but i didnt think it would be a problem) so i transferred it, thinking that my phone would accept it, it did. The only problem is that when i tried to se the new picture it was just a blank image (this is also what happens when i try to set it as a background). Cant say i have a clue about whats wrong, but i dont want what little space is on the phone, to be taken up by a blank image. And thats not even the biggest problem, i dont know if its the format of the photo, but i can only see the blank image when i try to set my wallpaper, like, it doesnt even exist in my pictures folder, which is considerably stupid considering i cant delete it. Wondering if you guys can help me out?
I have the KRZR too and installed the MPT. Whenever I try to open the phonebook or calander or anything, I get the message “This function is not available…bla….bla…bla.” What am I doing wrong?
Thanks, Tim
Could you go to a Sprint store to get the Motorola user interface back onto a Verizon KRZR?
Sprint JUST listed the KRZR for sale on their website, and I’m not sure if it’s even in the stores yet. It was to come to the stores within the 1st 2 weeks of Nov.
I take it no one has figured out how to use mp3′s as ringtones yet?
I have gotten ringtones to work. But it’s not as easy as 1-2-3.
1)If you have installed “Motorola Phone Tools” (MPT), uninstall MPT.
2)Run the sync-fix found on this page and then REINSTALL the Motorola Driver listed on this page.
3)Download “Motorola Software Update” (MSU)and install it.
4)Download P2KCommander v3.2.2, and place it in the directory “C:\p2kcommander”
5)Run MSU.
6)Connect the phone and wait until in the lower left hand corner an ESN number appears. DO NOT CLOSE MSU, simply minimize it.
7)Run P2KCommander.exe, DO NOT RUN THE AUTOSTARTER.
8)In the right-hand size drop-down list box select P2K Mobile Device.
9)It will read the phone structure, navigate to a/Motorola/Shared/ringtones and copy your MP3s to this folder.
10)Navigate back to a/ and delete MyTonesDB.db.
11)Disconect your KRZR from the computer, turn it off and turn it back on.
12)If you followed these directions (I’m to lazy to find where I got these directions and credit them)
Thanks Elizabeth, I owe u one…
as far as e-mailing your files, it’s able to be done. you need to send them as an attachment as a PIX message. for me, having verison, it would be (your number)@vzwpix.com and attach the file. the files should be, as stated above, below a certain size, and i think it is, in fact, 250kb max. it will then show up and you have the option to save the sound, and it will list with your ringtones.
Thanks Elizabeth and Sahas, I got connected with Windows Media Player, and enjoy the songs…
One thing I noticed which may make difference on the setup is the version of WMP. I could not get my cell phone to connect to PC until I upgraded to WMP V11, which is the latest one I could find on MS web page. Hope this could also help others.
Before I could get connected to WMP to load songs, I can charge my cell phone with the USB cable, but I lost this feature. Does any one know how to get the charge battery via USB function back? Thanks.
I followed the steps listed about by TimA…I now have the file on the phone, its listed under music as a ringtone, but when I go to my ringtones, it doesn’t show up.
Any ideas?
I’ve been reading alot of websites on the krzr and have installed alot of different drivers/sync fixes and have mpt vers 3.X, so i got it to work by pretending my phone was a Vc3, and was able to transfer files to my phone. The problem is the files are on my phone, but aren’t in my music folder, so i figured it didn’t transfer so i went to try again and they were on my phone in the sounds folder, but restarted my phone and tried all different stuff and they still don’t show up.
I’ve had very few problems getting all the fancy features to work; mp3 as ringtone, caller id pics, sync’ing music… the one thing I can’t get to work is for music to play in my bluetooth headphones. Phone conversations yes, music no. Has anyone had any success with this?
JJ – can you provide any insight on how you were able to use mp3 ringtones?
Ray-
it has to be an mp3 file of 20 seconds or less. email it to yourphonenumber@vzwpix.com as an attachment. When you receive it on your phone, view the message, select Options, and Save Sound. It should now appear in your My Ringtones folder, and the Set As button should let you assign it as a ring, alert, etc.
@Ray
Well my only two guesses on that are you didn’t put the MP3s in the right folder, or you didn’t delete MyTonesDB.db file before restarting the phone.
Another word about mp3 ringtones. If you want to assign ringtones to a contact you have to turn off the vibrate function. A bug apparently exists where if you have vibrate on it will always play the default.mid.
After a month of fiddling around with all sorts of fixes, I finally found a solution that works for my krzr… I went to datapilot.com, paid them $39 and downloaded their software, upgraded it to the latest version, and my phone is finally recognized (none of the above solutions had worked for me) and I now can sync music, add ringtones, sync calendar with outlook, download pictures and contacts just as expected via USB.
Just for anyone’s information, I just tried this with the Sprint version of the Krzr. After some problems initially, it looks like it works. Instead of a/Motorola/Shared/ringtones, you put it in a/Motorola/Shared/audio folder in the same subfolder. Not sure if it will always do this but it seems to automatically reboot, which probably means if it is rebooting unplug the phone and close the programs. It’s a little annoying but it did seem like it works. :) Thanks for the information!
@Al
yeah, i forgot to mention that on other carriers the folder may be named something else, thx for the info :-D
In case anybody was curious, 1-800-972-1837 is the suppourt number for the KRZR @ motorola. I contacted them about contact ringtones not working for calls when you have vibrate AND ring turned on. They said it’s a known issue and are working to fix it.
So if you want to make a 20second mp3 ringtone how do you cut a song down to 20 seconds? And please, someone answer how to put music onto a memory card?
Tiffany – I was able to get music to the memory card by using the “sync” function on Windows Media Player.
As for the ringtone issue, I’ve had success making 20 second mp3′s as ringtones by both methods discussed (using P2k Commander and by sending via email).
Biggest problem I’m having now is that occassionally the PC doesn’t recognize the phone when I plug it in via USB. Anyone else having this problem?
There are a number of audio-edit tools out there to trim an mp3 to 20 seconds.
My newest, biggest gripe about the KRZR from Verizon is that they tout it as a bluetooth-enabled music player, but can I play music over bluetooth headphones? NO! To market this phone as a music device and then disable the bluetooth functionality is so typical Verizon… The Cingular/TMobile version will have it. Does anyone know if unlocking this phone will give me that bluetooth profile (A2DP, i think), or flashing it with the Alltel UI?
I tell you, if that Network guy had been standing behind me when I discovered this flaw, I would have knocked him out. CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW, NERD BOY?
I just downloaded a program (seems to be freeware) from http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/masters.html
The name of the program is WavePad…and from the little bit I’ve used it, it seems to be very similar to Sound Forge (which is the best audio editing software I’ve used).
Yea umm I have a micro Sd card, plays my mp3′s fine, everything works, but i thought there was a way to just set any mp3 i had(whether it be on the microsd card or phone memory) to be my ringtone, guess not?
Verizon just released the right drivers for the KRZR. I was having the same issues with the USB transer as many of you but now everything works perfectly. The software is here: http://www.vzam.net/vcastmusic/
Mike, Good looking out, but still a no go for me, I uninstalled all the different motorola software and drivers and installed the VZW vcast software, which all installs and runs fine for me, but then when I try to sync my phone the computer always detects new hardware and tries to install it as an MTP device and fails. Therefore my computer never finds my phone and my phone everytime displays
“Connect Failure Please check your cable connection to the PC.” Which is obviously connected since everytime i try to sync from my phone it tries to install as an MTP device.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
i sent the mp3 to my phone and saved the sound but it is not showing up under my ringtones can someone help
Added not my version of SYNC is 01.02.006, just wanted to make sure that this matches everyone else’s version on verizion’s sync, if not is there an update online or can i go to the store to have it updated?
hi everyone,
i will be buying this phone hopefully sometime around christmas and i was just doing my research so there isnt a big hassle when it somes to getting my phone.
if someone wouldnt mind answering a couple of my questions if they know the answers i would greatly appreciate it.
1.) i will be using the mp3 player frequently, so i was wondering how mp3 files are put on it? do i put it in my phone then hook my phone up to the computer via usb cables? if so does the usb come with it? or do i have to buy the usb cable? if it doesnt connect that way do i have to buy one of those gadgets where u pop the memory card into it and then put that into your usb drive ( the thing im talking about looks like a flashdrive)?
2.) should i expect the price of the phone $199 to go down before christmas time?
3.) verizon wireless sells memory cards but they are highly over priced and as far as i can see they only have 1gb ones. the features say it can hold a 2gb one. would it work if i went to say best buy and bought a sandisk microsd 2gb card?
4.) and finally since i will be using the mp3 player so much should i buy an additional battery? or is the battery last so long that it will be fine? also, how long does the battery last…(estimate). and whats the difference between the additional battery and extended battery that are on verizon wireless’s web site?
i know that was alot to read but i would really appreciate if someone took some time and posted a reply to this
thank you very much
Hi, I love the phone but I have Verizon and hate the UI they put on it. Do you think I should buy the phone from Alltel or Sprint and activate it on Verizon’s network or just get the Verizon phone and flash the software to Alltel’s. Thanks.
accutally you can start eth music without opening the phone… you press and hold the speakerphone button when the phone is shut… this starts up the media program. Well i hope that helps
can you set ringtones for groups, or blocked caller id numbers, or any in-phonebook number? i can’t find a way on the VZW UI, is there a difference in the default/Alltel UI?
i just bought this phone thru sprint, and i was wondering ..to play mp3 do i have to log on to the internet everytime?..thanxs
Has anyone successfully used a 2GB Micro SD card in a Verizon KRZR K1m? Were you able to load and play more than 1GB of songs? I want to buy a 2GB card but heard some phones can only play up to 1GB of a 2GB card. Thoughts?
Has anyone been able to sync with a Mac. I use the Missing Sync. I want to get this phone but I have to know I can sync it with my Mac.
I have the K1m from U.S. Cellular and mine is able to start the MP3 player by holding down the smart / spkr key on the left side. I am very happy withthe phone so far. Great abilities for customization, luv it.
just and FYI on transfering you songs onto the memory card, don’t let them sucker you into buying an expensive software kit. the easies way is to by an expadable memory flash drive (I use a Bonzai) and then buy the memory card with the TransFlash Adaptor then you simply stick the memory card into the Flash Drive and plug it into you usb port (no software to install!!!) then you Simply Grap you song files (mp3 formatted) and drop them onto the memory card, Very fast and simple and cheap. Hope this helps. I just got mine recently and love it.
I for the life of me can not figure out how to download songs, pictures, anything to the phone.. I DO NOT have a usb cable.. I do however have the memory card slot in my computer/bypassing any use of usb cables.. I do know how to upload songs to the memory card.
SO if anyone can explain to me what to do after I have the items I wish on my memory card and put it back in the phone.. WHAT do I do next. I can not find an upload feature anywhere. I actually bought 3 of these last night.. Under the impression I could use them as mp3 players with my own music.. and if this is not the case or I dont figure it out soon.. I will be taking them back.
THANKS SO MUCH!
whats the point of having a mp3 player on your phone if it only holds 4 songs
i was jw if the krzr is an mp3 player?
i thought it was because of the buttons on the outside of the phone. but on bestbuy.com under the motokrzr it says
mp3 player : No
[Comment ID #8872 Will Be Quoted Here]
Yes it does have a built in MP3 Player.. You do however have to a bluetooth. as there is no place for earphones to be plugged into.
Yeah I just got the phone today I learned a few things about it so far ,and I like it. One thing I don’t know u can do is get all the numbers say if u have 3 numbers for one name can u get them to all be in the name instead of having like 3 different Amanda’s like one for her cell her house and her work or can you, Also when u text like on my old phone i could see the number I was texting is there any way I can see the number that I’m going to be sending it to .. If u read this and u know anything about it feel free to im me on BIGJOHNP73@AOL.COM thanks for ur help.
I just wanted to thank you guys for hosting the drivers. I would have lost it had they charged me for the drivers disk.
I recently purchased the Sprint KRZR and each time i try to listen to music (of course, after inserting the pre-packaged 64 mb mini sd), i get an error everytime. There is nothing noted in the manual about formatting the mini sd or anything of that matter. I tried using a friend’s mini sd in my KRZR and the same ordeal ensued. I’m getting very frustrated here. Does anybody know why my phone is not playing music right off the bat (and i assume, like it should because it was not noted otherwise). Sprint is not handling this situation very well, i went to their website and there was no trouble-shooting guide/tips on how to manage this miniscule of an ordeal (well, i love my music so it’s a quite problematic on my part). Somebody HELP ME PLEASE?!?! And if this means that i have to purchase some software or usb cord, then by all means this product was a 400 dollar SCAM!!! (sure the 30 dollar rebate was nice, but WTF?!?!).
Sincerely,
A Disgruntled KRZR User
P.S. I wish the text-box screen was larger. Other than that, i wish i knew what the music player was like so i could throw in my 2 lincoln pieces on that.
Have you put any songs on your memory card for them to be able to play on your phone? sprint dont have predownloaded songs on your memory card. Your memory card will actully only hold about 4-7 songs, so you need to buy a bigger one. To put songs on your memory card you either need memory card slots in your computer, or a usb cable that goes to your phone. So yes you have to buy extras for the phone.. also I dont know if your aware but you need a blue tooth as well to listen to it, unless you listen to it in speaker phone type. There are no plug ins for head phones.
So unless you pay to download your music from the sprint music store, you will need a bigger memory card, plus a usb cable to get the songs from your computer to your phone. Also why your out shopping pick up a blue tooth as well.. unless you dont mind other people listing to your music.
I have learned all this in the past week.. so if you have any other questions just ask.. ill try to help.
Beth Ann….2 questions for you….How do you switch the player to play through Bluetooth? I can only seem to get it to spit out of the speakerphone, not from my bluetooth headset. Secondly, How do you transfer songs from your PC to the card? I have a USB cable but can’t access the phone or memory card or anything…am I not doing something correct? Do I need to get a card reader separately?
Dear Bethany Ann,Hun, I already uploaded music to the microsd device, which was the reason as to why i was so perturbed when it didn’t work. I’m sad (but feeling a ton better since you took the time to aid me, i should praise thee :P). Anywho, i am not going to give sprint anymore of my dough, thus, me not buying music through their site (and i have 100 plus gigs of music, which means i got more jams than Smuckers). Another thing is that I haven’t come across the headphone set for the sprint KRapZR yet. And to resort to the Bluetooth set? I’d rather not look like Mr. Spock just to listen to music. No Startrek for me, precious, and that’s Phareel.
Let me know if you find out anymore about wired-headphone peripherals for the device and the whole ordeal with the microsd not functioning properly.
P.S. I would assume that the (future) headphones for sprints krzr would work the same way as all the other provider’s versions of the krzr; plug-in through usb hole. Shows how much you know Beth ;)
Well if thats how you feel that how you feel. I am not an expert in no way.. nor have I claimed to be one. I just know what I have been told and what works for me! The guy at sprint said they do not have head phones for the krzrs, you have to buy a blue tooth. Now yes he could be wrong.. but again that is what I WAS TOLD… and actually after doing some online checking now YES you can buy headphones for the usb port. WHICH AGAIN.. I was told different by the guy that sold me the phone!!! I am not an expert nor have I claimed to be one so calm down. I am here trying to help people with the same problems I have had. If you dont like my answers dont ask the question! But yes you can buy head phones. I did a basic search for Motorola KRZR K1m Accessories. and it brought up a few good sites with krzr products. the first one I clicked was 18.95 with free shipping.. So it isnt priced bad.

Beth Ann (not Bethany Ann) @)—
i have not been able to get my phone to connect with the computer. i’m using a canon computer USB cable. my phone didn’t come with a cable so i had to improvize. do i need to buy the cable for $30
As long as the cable you are using is USB 2.0 and is Type A to Type Mini B, you should be fine. Also make sure you install the drivers first!
go to sound settings, option 2 call sounds, option 2 call vibrate, turn to off and all your ringtones should work
I think that the krzr is the best phone i have ever had it plays music with great sound quality and i think that verizon has really reliable service the krzr rocks…literally
I tried everything listed above, the K1M was being recognized by XP, but not locating the drivers. I was at my whits end and planned on just going to bed and watching Seinfeld, but before I did I wanted to confirm the model #.
I pulled off the battery and….all the device drivers began to load one after another. Keep in mind that the phone had been disconnected several times and the PC rebooted at least 5 times including selective start-up.
cant you sync with like blutooth?
I went through the frustration of hooking the k1m up via usb and having the driver error repeatedly. I even have Moto Phone Tools. But if you start MPT, get to the plug phone in screen, turn your phone off anf then on, and THEN plug it in… voila! At least for me that worked.
But, my goal was to be able to transfer pictures from the phone to my PC. Alas, MPT doesn’t do that. And yeah, I know I can email them off, but i don’t wanna do that and get charged for a text each time! Any suggestions? HELP!!!
Chris,
I have not been able to download pics using the usb cable either. So I have taken the longer route: saved the pics to my microsd card, removed it and plugged it into my latop using the sd adapter ofcourse and then copied the pics. This works but its painful as firstly getting the microsd card out and in every time is a big pain due to its location under the battery.
I guess that is the only way then, unless I can get BitPim to work. (Can’t yet) Its crazy right? You buy a phone, expecting certain things with technology, but Verizon cripples the phones’ features. Its a shame that you have to go through so much trouble to get what you want from your phone. I can’t believe I have a Gig of storage (on the microSD car) and I can’t access it via usb. Someone needs to create drivers to make it show up like a jump-drive.
I followed exact instructions given by TimA above and can FINALLY set any of my mp3s as ringtones :) Thanks!
No MPT needed, just download P2K and MSU online for free. Also I use the same USB cable which came with my canon, so no expenses at all!
Chris
Using the same method described above by TimA (P2K Commander and MSU), I can now transfer pics from my KRZR K1m to my PC using the usb cable :) No more removing of microSD card needed!
OK Sweet! Making progress…
Now what version of P2k do you guys have? I dl’d p2kman.
I think it might be old. I’ll look for a different p2k.
You guys rock!
I downloaded 3.2.2, perhaps later versions will work too, not sure..
I’ve enjoyed the Krzr quite a bit, but I have a few inconveniences that may be caused by my ignorance, but regardless I thought I should share it.
The phone doesn’t prompt you when transferring files via bluetooth to choose a storage device, It goes directly to the phone, and once phone is full you are forced to manually move files to the T- Flash drive.
Also when personalizing you ringtunes, you must have it in the phones memory. If you want to have a ringtune that is currently in your T-Flash drive you must first free up some space in the phones memory then transfer the file from the T-Flash then select your ringtune. It sounds a little crazy now that I am typing it. Perhaps it is just me, but I’ve fiddled around with it for a few days now, just can’t seem to get around that problem.
If you know the solution to this, please feel free to contact me.
I just got the Krzr last week and am still not able to get the music to sync.I downloaded the links that were givin above. i have gotten WMP to recognize my phone too but when i connect the phone with the usb and i and put the phone in sync mode it says connection failed every time. How can i fix that?
After days of hassle, I finally got the music sync to work. I uninstalled drivers about a gajillion times, and then finally it happened! I dl’d motorola software update, p2k, moto driver update, bitpim, moto phone tools, mobile phone tools, et cetera, ad nauseum… Well, this time, after uninstalling the drivers, running moto software update, plugging in the phone, and then hitting sync on the phone, a window pops up and lets me view the MicroSD card!!! WooHoo!!! That will work for music. Now I have to figure out how to get those pics and vids off the phone with bitpim or p2k. I am hopeful, now, at least…
I found a walkthrough with pictures if anyone needs it. It shows you how to sync, transfer music, and everything else everyone is talking about here. It also shows pictures of the whole process:

Warning: Very Long Winded!
Okay first off to those of you that seem to think that Verizon is the culprit that creates all of the technical issues that you may have with your phone you are 110% wrong. Verizon tells the manufacture what they want the device to do or not to do. Yes that’s their option it’s on their network they provide a service not a device. They are resellers of the devices they don’t write the software for them. Yes they need to know the problems of the devices so they can report that back to the manufacture so a software update can be produced to fix the issues.
Next issue… If Alltel or Sprint do not have what is called a “Monster File” software update DO NOT get them to flash your phone with their software it will more than likely fry the phone. Verizon does not receive “Monster Files” to do software updates to devices they receive patch files. Even if you do have a software update done to the phone you can expect not to be able to use ANY data features on the VZW network, because it will rewrite the information to which ever network you had flash the phone. Data Features include: Pix Msgs, Internet, Get it Now, V-Cast, V-Cast Music, Video Msgs, which means you can’t send yourself ringtones via your10digit#@vzwpix.com.
For those of you that think you have a “Locked” phone you are again mistaken, Verizon does not “Lock” the phones if that was the case they would be like Sprint and have a Master Service Lock Code for each different ESN(Electronic Serial Number). Alltel does not lock their phones either. As long as the ESN is in either Verizon’s or Alltel’s data base the device can be activated on either network as well as any carrier that uses the same Master Service Lock Code as they do with an OTA(Over The Air) programming. Not saying everything will work if you have software that isn’t from that company that you have the phone activated on but yes it’s very possible.
One thing everyone that has Verizon service should be aware of is that if you are signed up for “My Account” and you are not on a business plan “Backup Assistant” is a free service. This stores your contacts OFF the phone so in the event that your phone will not power on, all you have to do is redownload the application to a new device from “Get It Now” and it will restore your phonebook information. To access this program goto the “Get It Now” section of the phone and goto “Get Going” select “Get New App.” if it’s not listed there (which it usually is) it’s not far away usually under “top sellers” Yes it still says it’s a $1.99 subscription and it will charge you the $1.99 on your bill, but if you are signed up for “My Account” and you are not on a business plan you will also see a credit on the bill for that amount.
Manage your phone’s contact list online
• Store a copy of your phone’s contact list.
• View, add and update your contacts from your computer.
• Send updates to your phone at the click of a button or schedule automatic updates.
• Transfer contact list to your new phone, when you upgrade or if your phone is lost or stolen.
Service is free for My Account customers
This directly off the “My Account” page after login.

just want say thanks to Tim A worked perfect now I can use all those ringtones I have downloaded to my krzr k1m I spent weeks trying to figure it out took like two minutes after I read his how to advice perfect thank you so very much now I feel my phone is realy mine
I hate to sound like a broken record, because I’m repeating the question asked before. But there hasn’t been an answer posted.
Has anyone put in a 2gb transflash micro sd memory card into the Verizon Krzr K1m and gotten it to work… meaning play 2gb’s of music?
I know it’s supposed to work. I even verified it with a Verizon rep. But, I don’t think it’s a good idea to trust these reps. I just want a confirmation that it will work before I go out and get a 2gb card. Thx.
i cant stand this thing at the moment. i just put in a 1gb micro sd card loaded 650mb of music on the thing and now i cant even access the music files. i cant do crap.
Ron,
I have a 2GB card in my Krzr and it is recognized by the phone as 2GB. I have the latest series of the KRZR from Verizon and I hate the thing. I feel like a thief having to use hackz & crackz to use my OWN G.D. phone. I have no problem now getting music to an from the phone or editing contacts. I just don’t think that I should have to pay additional money to use the thing. It’s like buying a car and finding out that the trunk and glove box are locked. You need to pay the dealer additional money to access your trunk OR buy everything you want to put in your trunk from THEM! I picked up a 2GB card from Staples for about $65. Good luck!
I just bought a KRZR K1-type- MQ5-4411A11 off the internet but my SIM card from cingular will not fit this phone (too big) has anyone else had this problem? Could it be the phone is from Euorpe?
n2ooz – Have you put a lot of music on it successfully? I have a 2gb sd card, and i can put smaller amounts of music on it, but not large amounts. Not sure of the exact high limit, but 1.38gigs doesn’t work. It just sits there on the “Adding songs to library” screen. I formatted it first in the phone so that the folders show up. Then added music to the card through a card reader. Has anyone put, say, 1.8gb of music successfully on a verizon KRZR k1m? and if so, how??? Thanks!
GWEST yes I download full albums and more at a time with card in phone just sync to windows media player add your music to sync list click start sync easy as one two three play
I recently got the LG 730 headset to use with my Verizon KRZR. They pair up just fine but when they are paired, my phone will not ring. Very frustrating because even wearing the headset, I may not hear the tone in the headset with music on in the car. My previous Plantronics headset worked just fine, and I have paired my headset with a friend’s Razr and it worked fine, ie, the phone actually rang. Any suggestions???
I just bought the Krzr K1m. It’s like my computer does not recognize the driver that I have installed on the computer. Therefore, I am unable to sync. What is going on?
should i get a KRZR phone or do u guys not recomend it?Also, could you get some of your music from LmeWire? Is it just like an ipod?
say I am trying to watch my home security cam on line with my krzr but when I log into my cam it says I need java what’s up thought it would already be in the browser any one able to use any other browsers on their krzr k1m?
I am able to sync music to the K1m using WMP, but I have only been able to sync 20-30 songs. I have a 2GB card with lots of space, and I have been able to sync 100+ songs, but when I try to listen to them, I get a “removing songs from list” message and when it finally stops, there are 20-30 songs left. Has anyone seen this behavior? I have not set up playlists, folders, etc., will that help?
Also, is anyone aware of a fix from Motorola for some of the long-standing issues; only default ringtones when you choose vibe-and-ring, etc.?
does verizon have the krzr in violet? because if they do I am goin to get it right now! :)
does everyone that has the KRZR like it because i have heard its bad and idk if i should get it or not
I still can’t access the internet on my phone, even after I downloaded the update. Does everyone else have their internet?
Thank you, thank you! I was having so many problems charging my new KRZR k1m until I stumbled upon this site. Your driver info was just the trick.
I downloaded a ringtone and got it as a text message, I played it and then saved it as a sound but can’t get it to a ringtone. Any one know how to fix this?
All I hear are you people bitching on this website, mabey you should read about the phone before actully buying it, since it does cost a good chunk of change and all. Read up on what you’re buying before even doing anything. I love my KRZR. I bought it after I read all of the features it has and I was satisfied before I had even held it. It was even better once it came. I also know how to take care of my things and even though it does soak up fingerprinks like a sponge, you can just put a protector over it, or take care of your possesions. They wipe off easily in about a minute if you just take the time to do it.
Oh yeah and also, don’t buy Verison. Cingular is where it’s at…
ya I got the krzr k1m from verizon a week ago and so far I am having no problems with it.don’t know why all of your are bitching about it , but the krzr is a great phone.
JD,
I’m glad to see that you are not having problems with your new phone. The “bitching” you refer to started when VZ began selling this phone (check the posting dates) before there were working drivers available.
Now that Motorola has working drivers, I have nothing to complain about. I have control of the phone via P2K Commander, Motorola Phone Tools, and V-Cast Music Essential Manager, all of which are available for download if you search for them.
Now that I’m up and working, I can say that it is a fantastic phone. The fact that VZ wants customers to shell out additional money to use the phone features such as music and ring tones is (IMHO) criminal. It’s like buying a car and finding out that the trunk, glove box, and front hood each require an additional key to open which you can purchase if you need to have access to them.
F- VERIZON!! That being said with 3 Verizon cells and Verizon FIOS as my cable TV and internet service provider. :-)
John
I’m not to happy with this phone. You gave it a 5/5 on the body? I think it’s horrible. I very rarely drop my phones or any of my technology, but the second time I dropped this phone the front cracked from top to bottom. It didn’t even fall from a very great height, no more than a foot off the ground, it didn’t even land on the front cover. Maybe it was a freak accident or something, but I’m pretty upset about it. I guess I’m just lucky it’s only cosmetic damage and it managed to just barely miss the camera lens, but ugh. ):
My krzr lense cracked. Don`t put it your pocket. Motorola will not help me with it.So i have a new phone that looks like crap.
ours cracked too.. and has never been dropped.. we couldnt figure out how.. but I guess its just so cheap it cracked in my husbands pocket.
I would like to find out how many have cracked. I think there are or will be a lot.It would be nice if Motorola could help us out.

I have a Motorola KRZR k1m, that I just got with my ‘New every two’ Verizon contract. I spent 2 days this past weekend trying to get my phone to connect to my computer. I bought and installed the Music Essentials Kit, downloaded and installed the various software (including the Music Essentials Manager and the Sync Music Fix), installed driver after driver, uninstalled them, reinstalled them, talked to Verizon customer service (twice), talked to Motorola customer service, etc., etc., etc. The final outcome is that I cannot connect. I got this phone so that I could take pictures & upload them to my computer, and to download MY music, but I cannot. From my research on the web I find that this is a common problem with the KRZR. I want another new phone!! I have been a Verizon customer for 8 years – this is my 4th new phone. I WANT A PHONE THAT WORKS LIKE IT’S SUPPOSED TO – NOW!!!
I am apparently going to have to buy a microsd card. Can anyone suggest the best type/price/vendor to purchase it from? And how will it work with a Verizon MOTOKRZR?
i just got my krzr 2 days ago and already it is getting scratches, this phone also attracts finger prints, but over all the phone is very nice and a nice alternative to the crappy razr.
Issue 1 Description
The Sync Music Application does not successfully launch Windows Media Player to enable music file synchronization between the handset and the PC. This occurs when the user opens the “VCAST SyncMusic” application (Menu>GetIt Now>Get Music &Tones>Sync Music) on the phone and even though the phone is recognized and enumerates as a Microsoft Transfer Protocol (MTP) device after a few seconds it quickly enumerates back as a Motorola USB Modem.
This occurs when particular Windows Registry flags are changed to incorrect values during the first sync. The PC will not be capable of syncing music for any K1m device until the Windows Registry values are modified.
Issue 1 Solution:
1. Disconnect phone
2. Execute the new MTP Repair executable (CLICK HERE to download)
3. Reboot the PC
4. Open Windows Media Player
5. Connect phone
6. Launch Get It Now > Get Music & Tones > Sync Music
If this does not resolve the sync issue:
1. Disconnect phone
2. Uninstall Windows Media Player 10
3. Install Windows Media Player 10 or later
4. Reboot the PC
5. Open Windows Media Player
6. Connect phone
7. Launch GetIt Now>Get Music &Tones>Sync Music
Issue 2 Description
After the user has launched the Sync Music function, the phone displays under “Other Devices” in the Device Manager as K1m/L7c. Registry values corresponding to the device are not being populated. The device does not enumerate as a Microsoft Transfer Protocol Device and is prohibited from syncing music.
Issue 2 Solution:
1. Disconnect phone
2. Execute the V3m MTP Fix executable (CLICK HERE to download)
3. Reboot the PC
4. Open Windows Media Player
5. Connect phone
6. Launch GetIt Now>Get Music &Tones>Sync Music
If this does not resolve the sync issue:
1. Disconnect phone
2. Uninstall Windows Media Player 10
3. Install Windows Media Player 10 or later
4. Reboot the PC
5. Open Windows Media Player
6. Connect phone
7. Launch GetIt Now>Get Music &Tones>Sync Music
Issue 3 Description
Phone is recognized as a Microsoft Transfer Protocol Device and “MTP Media Player” Dialog opens up momentarily and then disappears. Phone reverts back as Motorola USB Modem and displays “Connect Failure”.
Issue 3 Solution Pending
VCAST third party application provider has determined that allowing a greater duration period for recognizing the phone may resolve this issue. Motorola is currently working with VZW and third party application provider to integrate into a future software release. Target date mid to late January.
Issue 4 Description
Phone displays “Connected” and Windows Media Player opens up. However it displays “Finding Devices” and stays in this state prohibiting the phone from syncing music.

Got mine on Ebay, 1gb paid 10.00 including shipping, works fine
Pete says
i have been having trouble getting my songs to load from my MicroSD memory card. its like my phone freezes every time i try to load the musc files and the my phone temporarily loses service. i think it might be a defect in the phone or maybe in the card. i have no idea. is anyone having the same problems or knows how to fix it ?
..
Pete ive been having the same problem with my phone, with the losing service when i try to load up pictures or songs from my phone, and i just dont kno what it is.. im on my 2nd krzr… i think this phone is horrible!!!! im gonna need help on this one too!!!
It would appear that most of the problems with the K1M are a result of Verizon software – either glitches or intentional disabilities. I have contacted Verizon and Motorola and they both say, “Do X, then do Y…”, etc., etc. I keep telling them that I have done X and Y multiple times and am still not able to get my phone to recognize the PC. I have a microSD card on order from eBay, but I just heard that people are also having problems with cards – especially with Verizon KRZRs. Is there an attorney in this forum? Can we start a class action suit?
i need help!!!! when i connect my KRZR K1 to the computer, it wont connect! i have installed all the software, but when i try to connect my phone a pop up says ‘to check the settings’ on my phone, and says i need to connect to the internet. i done that but it still wont connect! what the hell am i doing wrong?!?!?! help please!!!
Hey I live in western maryland and the only actual carriers that ne one has are either Cellular One or US Cellular. I have the better of the two US Cellular. They are reliable have a good customer service program and the only way that they change the motorola krzr k1m is by inscribing “US Cellular” on the phone. There is no dumbing down like verizon does and instead of the lit up verizon ad that everyone here has been complaining about the motorola sign comes up. In my opinion US Cellular is the best carrier around and if u have it in your area then i suggest u get it.
Does anyone know how to transfer pictures from the krzr to the computer ? Is it possible to do without having a memory card ?
The best way with out USB, bluetooth or the MicroSD card is TEXT! I sometimes just text the pics to my email..
ALSO…..Does anyone know why my K1M will not save my MP3 settings?
if you just bought this phone TAKE IT BACK or plan on buying this phone DONT. There is nothing I like about it except for the slimness. Everything else is either defective or will be defective after your trial period is up. Not worth the money or hassle!
I tried e-mailing an mp3 to myself at mynumber@vzwpix.com and it bounced back;
Your message was rejected by smtp.vzwpix.com for the following reason: SMTP connection refused
What did I do wrong? Also, how do you turn off the annoying beep when you miss a call?
For the missed call alert, go to settings, and then ring styles, go to the style detail and the reminder is the last thing. There are three options….BEEP, REMINDER and NONE……
Also, on the glitches in the phone, depending on the carrier, have software updates available. Verizon and ALLtel use the same CDMA software. I actually use the Alltel but it is the same software as the Verizon KRZR. Mine has been acting up and i got the newest update and solved alot. one was the charging glitch. Some problems can be easily solved and others need to be evaluated by your carrier. Any other alltel users let me know as i have a question about yours.
yooo this is the best phone in america i love using the mp3 player
i cant figure out how to transfer the pictures and videos from my phone to the computer…. can someone please help me??
if you have a MICROSD card, use that to transfer….if not, SMS is another option
NO, i hate KRZRS!!
The the screen is soo sensitive!!
Yeah, today I accidentally stepped on my cell when I was trying a dress on and now the outside screen of my KRZR is shattered, so now I have to buy a new phone.
Also, I always have to be turning it on and off, because it always freezes up. Oh, and it also ALWAYS deletes my contacts!! It’s so annoying!
And I hate how it gets so many finger prints on the screen, so you have to be cleaning it non stop..
KRAZRS are really great phones aside from that, though. The mp3 played is great and loud. And you can send TONS of text messages. And it gets the best reception.
The screen is no more sensitive then any other phone. If I stepped on my old samsung, it would crack too. IT IS CALLED PLASTIC!
ALSO, it isn’t the phone’s fault for the fingerprints. If you didn’t touch it, THEY WOULDN’T BE THERE! They should make these forums with a here’s your sign button!
If your car gets a fingerprint on it, you wouldn’t blame the car company…WOULD YOU! OF COURSE NOT…..SO..it isn’t motorola’s fault you aren’t smart enough not to step on a phone and keep your fingers off the screen.
I recently purchased the KRZR Km1 – the problem I am having with it – is when I connect it to the PC, a message appears breifly on the phone saying Connected as USB device, Files on Memory card not available now.
Can someone help me with this?
I’m very disappointed in the Verizon version of the KRZR. They’ve disabled all of the traditional and desireable Motorola features built into the phone by the manufacturer. They’ve locked it down.
Verizon must believe they know more than a company who spends billions in research and development, packing their phones with features customers want & demand. It’s completely ridiculous.
Ron, the Verizon KRZR will not “see” more than 1 gig on a 2 gig card.
The Krzr is really a disappointment from Verizon. I must say the the distinctive ringtones not working when the vibrate and ring feature is on is hokey. Leave it to Verizon to destroy what could have been a nice phone from Motorola. I used the 30 day ‘test drive’ and I am taking this one back to the shop.
wow i have the krazr and it sucks. i liked it at first but now everytime i try to do something it freezes in a matter of 4 seconds.. its extremly annoying and it dies veryy quikly
I have KRZR K1m with VERIZON and I got the SYNC to work with WMP. I can’t add these as ring tones though?? WEAK!
To add ringtones you have to use a special software. it is anoying and I like my phone, but I do agree that verizon is no gaining points by changing the software from the manufacture.
I have the KRZR, and I use US Cellular, so unlike Verizon Wireless, I get to put my own pictures on the front of the phone. I have absolutely NO problems with the phone, and after having the phone for 3-4 months, I have only had 1 freeze up, but it fixed itself, before I had to turn it off. Luckily, I bought my phone through a cell phone store that doesn’t sell service,( like us celluar, or cingular, or verizon wireless,) so I have the all the features, and they function great. Sounds like from these reviews, that my phone sucks, but I have to say, that it is an awesome, jaw dropping phone.
So if you are thinking about buying this phone, DO SO, from 1-10, on overall performance, and sleekness, I give it a 10.5
Yeah, I have seen that the krzr is not to blame. Verizon is. I dumped the krzr and went back to my old reliable v710 for now. Word is that Motorola is launching a new phone within the month… I think it’s called the 385(?). I like verizon’s service (for the most part) I just don’t like the way the booger up their phones. The other couple disappointing features with the phone are that when text messaging you can’t just hit the right arrow to space over (need to hit #) and to capitalize something you can’t press the up arrow. I think it made texting a lot quicker with those options. Anyway, I will try verizon one more time then I am switching carriers.
I traded up from a RAZR V3m to a KRZR K1m and am extremely happy. I feel that the phone is an incremental improvement but between the purchase price and the rebates it turned out to only be $20 more within my first 30 day trial period. Signal strength is excellent everywhere I go. I really enjoy the MP3 player (if anyone can tell me why it doesn’t play .WMA files, I’d be interested – it copies them but I can’t make them show up in the song or sound lists) along with the stereo USB headset. The voice dialing confuses two of my entries, but as soon as I say “no” to the first one it jumps to the second therefore it’s not a problem. I was able to get it to work with Motorola Phone Tools by changing the connection type to Modem, and as a USB flash drive by switching the connection to USB. The problem, of course, is that when you are connected via USB the phone doesn’t have access to the 2GB memory card and therefore the MP3 player won’t find songs if you search for them. I rarely play .MP3 files while charging the phone or transferring files anyway. Since I have my service through US Cellular, I don’t have any of the Verizon User Interface issues, either. I even used MPT to convert some .AVI movies to .3GP for road trips (does the KRZR play .AVI files natively?) I have the same issue with fingerprints but keep some inexpensive Electronic Cleaning Wipes that I bought in Wal-Mart’s computer department and wipe it down whenever it gets smudged. I am able to play .MP3 files while the cover is closed, changing volume and locking (hold down the button until the padlock appears) so that it doesn’t skip songs or anything while I’m holding it. And to change it from ringing to vibrate (or vibrate then ring) is as simple as holding the down-volume button and then pressing the smart button once. Then the smart button will switch modes without opening the phone (it’s in the owner’s manual). Overall I recommend the KRZR to anyone with a previous Motorola phone since it will be very familiar. I use mine mostly for text messaging and the right-arrow is a quick way to type what the phone predicts for you, and the # button is for a space which is quite convenient. I set up the iTAP mode and can really zip through words with a minimum of editing before I send it out). I will continue to play around and see what else I can discover. A definite 10/10 recommendation!
I was looking for patch of KRZR/K1M driver at Verizon web site but i couldn’t find any . So would you guys please so me how to get it .
I tried to install the drive :Download: Moto_KRZR_Driver.zip (Note: driver found on developer.motorola.com) but I still can not sync music from PC to phone .
Thank you
tontran, read the instructions posted by ELIZABETH on page 2 of the comments. you’ll be able to sync in no time. after windows media acknowledges your phone your computer will automatically install it with the drivers. make sure you have WINDOWS MEDIA 11 no other version would work for me, 9 or 10.
I’m a bit new to phones and all so this is probably a really simple problem, however, how do I upgrade my phone’s memory so I can store more music on it after sync’ing it from WMP 11? Any reply is appreciated, thanks.
if you want to access the mp3 playback without opening the phone, press and hold the bottom outside button on the lefthand side and then push the button on the right hand side and you will access the music playback
I did everything that you guys have indicated to me BUT it still doesn’t work .
How can I do with this matter ? Give me some more opinion .
Thanks
Tontran, This is the easier way to go but just like verizon you have to buy a micro sd (transflash) card and no more then 1 gig. I got mine from ebay for $15 and and if you dont have a SD card reader or adapter for it you will have to get that (usually comes with card). Once you have that put the SD card in your computer and go to WMP. And go to the sync menu and drag the songs over to the card and hit sync. But dont put them into playlists until on the phone. once you have all the songs synced to the card. Take the back cover off of the phone and then lift up the little piece of rubber at the bottom off the phone and slide in the micro TransFlash card in close the back of it up and turn the phone on. Then go on your phone to my music and then play all. A screen should pop up saying something about syncing music. Once it’s there u can put it into playlists. It’s pretty easy from there but if you need any more help tell me.
P.S. To make sure you get the right card check it at your phone providers site.
mine is cracked, my moms is cracked, both only 4 months old. Other than that I love the phone. Calls are clear, adding a contact is easier than falling off a fat girl and the phone is rugged, you just can’t look at the front of it wrong or it will break.
I just got my krzr a month ago and whenever i send a message it wont transfer the message into the sent folder so i cant tell if its actually being sent. is there a way to fix it?
my krzr is a peice of crap does anyone know why my phone is saying the memory is full but i have 15 txt msg and maybe 12 pics it will start freezing and will eventually not let me send text…..help i have already traded phones one time for the same problem…
I just bought the krzr (verizon) and I’m wondering how to change the missed call alert. As of now it rings a very annoying ring, and with previous verizon phones i was able to just have a quiet beep. I know it was mentioned above but when i go to settings i dont have the option of ring styles, so I’m just wondering if there is a way to change the missed call alert on my phone…
when i first got this phone it was amazing. everyone loved how it looked and i was always complimented, however ive only had mine for about 6 or 7 months and its having a meltdown. its driving me crazy because it flashes black or white on the screen then completely frezes. it also claims i have a calendar event and keepes vibration to remind me, when no event is saved. and those are JUST A FEW PROBLEMS. dont buy this phone. for starters its nice but you WILL REGRET IT.
Hi James
I do appreciate and grateful what you did .
Please tell me more how to put and make ringtone myself by download from web
Thank you much
anyone know how to upload picture from phone to PC or PC to phone? Pls help. I tried many ways, but it doesnt work. :( Really tire w/ all this. And why the picture auto locked in the phone?
Pls help.
After several weeks of trying to get my phone to recognize my computer through the USB port and monitoring this site and several others, I think that the problem is that my USB ports are all USB 1.1 and the phone wants USB 2.0. Don’t know why that should be a problem – my camera and flash drive are ok with the slower USB ports, but this phone is apparently more picky.
So I broke down and bought a MicroSD card (1GB) and found it to be super easy to load songs & pictures.
Here’s the process:
1) Put the little card in the phone and turn the phone on. The phone will format the card with its appropriate folders. (my_music, my_pictures, etc.)
2) Tell the phone that you want the card memory to be the default – Settings & Tools>8. Memory>Save Options>1.Pictures or 3.Sounds>Card Memory
3) Turn of the phone, take the card out and put it into a card reader and insert into your computer’s USB port – it may tell you that “This device will work better with USB 2.0…” – ignore that. You can even purchase a reader on eBay that accepts the little micro card without the adapter. I have 1 of those and 1 that needs the adapter (so 1 for home, 1 for work).
4) Use Windows Explorer (“My Computer”) to click & drag song and picture files into card’s proper folder – no messing with Windows Media Player, etc. I found I had to make smaller versions of my picture files (no more than about 400kb), but that’s no big deal to me.
5) To upload pictures, etc., to the PC, do the same.
I have purchased a case which protects the phone from breakage – I try not to drop it or step on it…So all-in-all, I’m now pretty pleased with the phone. I need to get a better headset to listen to music, I don’t like earbuds, but it’s good to actually have the phone working like I want it.
To the person who asked if you can change the missed call alert on the KRZR. The answer is no! I just spoke with Motorola customer service and it seemed as if we were learning the phone together(idiots). Overall this phone is a 5 out of 10. Oh yeah, no flash on the camera. I have had the best luck with LG and Nokia. Good times!
My Krzr completely froze. I was in the middle of using it and it froze for about 5 minutes. I tried shutting it then turning it off but nothing worked. After that, i removed the battery then put it back on but i got a white screen and nothing different from before. I cannot use it at all and this is after having it for just 3 months. Im phoneless, HELP!!!
Your review mention that you tested the KRZR bluetooth with Lexus successfully. How do you transfer the phonebook to the Lexus?
ok i got the driver downloaded but when i plug my phone in to the usb it cant find the software……….. What Do I Do???????
inside screen always freezes, turns white. wont even fix after restarting or taking the battery out and putting it back it. wouldn’t recommend it, there are better ones out there.
hey guys i successfully made a 20 second sound clip and transferred it to the phone but when i go to it and go options the “apply as” option doesnt show. so i dont know what the deal is. if you can help me out that’d be great????????
Just had Verizon’s software update installed. It fixed the vibrate problem. Now all my contact Id’s work with the vibrate funtion on. Just make sure all your contact numbers have the area code or it won’t work.
Hi, I bought an unlocked motorola KRZR K1 direct from motorola company and my bluetooth isn’t working. I mean other phones can find me once my bluetooth is on & I can accept files , but I just cant locate any devices. Don’t know what to do about it cause motorola says no warranty outside of the USA.
The other phones you are testing it with might have their bluetooth mode in a hidden setting. Make sure you set the other phones into a temporary “discoverable” mode. The newer phones available through Verizon, Sprint, and others now hide the bluetooth for safety reasons. Hope that works!
there is a way that sometimes you cant find them. If you select to copy or move a file via bluetooth and then search for devices, it usually finds the peron as long as they are visible. If you go through connections, and then bluetooth, it only finds handsfree and other devices of that type. Mine did the same thing and i had to figure it out
Thanks Ken . I think I will try what you said and see if it will work. I am getting tired of trying to send stuff to people & i cant.what is this pairing mode they talk about with the motorola bluetooth?
I keep reading about it..
my provider is TSTT BMobile here in Trinidad so I have nothing to do with Verizon etc..
Thanks
My daughter’s V3m has been dropped in liquid. I’ve taken the battery out and alcohol’d everything I can reach. Does anyone know if there’s a way to get the lower back cover off? I can’t find the owner’s manual when I need it!
I added some songs to my microsd card using the usb adapter. I put the MP3 player into the search mode but the 10 songs I added don’t show up on the play list. What am I doing wrong. I have Krzr K1m. The original songs I placed on the card are still there the new ones are nowhere to be found yet I know they are there on the card because I checked.
ok ken, i tried that & it worked. But I had to save the songs on Multimedia->Sounds , but for the songs that I received already I saved it to the phone & not to the memory card . so I dont know how to transfer it to the phone.
can you assist me on how to transfer songs that I have on my phone to the memory card. Thanks
Harry, I had the same think happen on mine. What you have to do is when you download the songs onto the card they have to all be seperate and not in playlists or else the phone wont read the songs. You can put them into playlists once on the phone
if you go to the song, you should be able to move, or copy the song to the phone off the card…….
DON’T DO IT! I’m on my third KRZR in three weeks. All the same version, same flash. Each has had it’s own problems – primarily the calendar, alarm, and mp3 player. Number three is going back tomorrow. By the way, good luck in trying to actually get a problem fixed – Motorola blames Verizon, Verizon blames Motorola. Trackfone is looking better all the time.
What’s the best belt clip or holster for the krzr? I broke two in 4 months. The first one was a cheap $10 secondary market one. I expected it to break. My second one was the OEM $20 one from the actual Verizon store and it broke in about two months as well. What’s up with that. Anyone know a good belt clip for this phone? Thanks.
I just got my KRZR about 2 months ago it all started out nice and good and then my camera wouldn’t work and then it would….I took it to a verizon wireless store and they said the phone had water damage…i don’t know how that’s possible because i make sure the phone NEVER touches water…i paid the full retali price for the phone because my contract wasn’t up so I knew better to let it come near water i never dropped it or anything…I then go to another vzw store and the lady had the nerve to tell me that motorola phones are prone to water damage even if u don’t drop it in water it could just be humid out…has anybody else heard this????
To everyone with the WMP problems – I wrestled with this forever, and it turns out I was misunderstanding the connection procedure. I uninstalled the drivers, including uninstalling the Motorola Driver Installer (in the Add/remove software control panel), and in the end that was all done correctly. Then, after starting V Cast Music Manager, you click on “Music on my Phone” = and it says you’re phone’s not connected. *THEN*, on the phone, go to Get It Now->Music->Sync, and click “Sync”. Then the phone & computer should recognize each other, and you’ll be able to push songs to the phone.
Also, I’ve had problems where the phone stopped showing up as a USB device *at all*, not even getting to the point of whether you have the right drivers, nor any complaint from Windows of there being a new USB device. In this case, pressing Sync on the phone does nothing. When this happened, I powered the phone off and back on, and then it came up normal again.
my phone right i was a hammy down for my cuz he had it for 4 monthes then got a new cell from a friends and so i have had it for a month or so and when i go to use it it works for like 10 seconds flickers black then frezzes?!!??!?!?! has this happend to anyone and if so helppppp!!!!
if you have an mp3 that you want to put as your ringtone, rename the mp3 whatever you would like and then at the end of whatever you want it to be put the letters qcp and it should come up under your ringtones
[Comment ID #31493 Will Be Quoted Here]
Where do you rename the song at? are you doing this thru sprint or your memory card?
can you do it under the verizon krzr and does it have to be on the memory or can it be on the phone?
I got my Krzr about a month ago and I have been having on and off problems with the sound. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn’t. I don’t get it. I have to keep my phone near me so I can hear it vibrate when I have a call.
I hope some people read this before going into contract or paying full retail for the KRZR. I got my first KRZR in mid-March of 2007. Mid-May of the same year it had software problems. I took it to the store and got a new one. 30th of September of this year, that gets software problems. I took it back and got my third KRZR. That same day the face place flew off when I opened the phone to take a call. Finally VZW switched me to a different phone for free. TAke it from me, three KRZRs in six months. Only get the KRZR if you dont mind changing phones every two months.
I have the KRZR and love it to bits. I think if you are stuck on which colour to get, the blue has plenty of character and if you are unsure about it first like I was- you will probably grow to like it within days, the grey is very nice with let me warn you, it’s GREY not SILVER and the black looks very classy but is a very man-like colour.
that same problem happened to me where it flickered black and then just goes back to the main screen. Ive had it for 3 weeks and its gone back to motorola for the repairs. Apprently it had to get a thin wire replaced that changes the screen from when you open it to when you close it. I like the phone and payed a lot of money for it and i hope it doesnt keep breaking like this.
i bought a KRZR from Verizon the other day and i was trying to use the bluetooth with a friend of mine. he sent me some songs and they are now on my phone but i can’t figure out where they are on it. i know they’re there because he said when he searches he finds them using his bluetooth from his phone. can anyone help me?
I purchased a KRZR a few weeks ago, havne’t had any problems what so ever, neither have my friends, but I am on a Bell network, sounds like most of the problems with these phones are due to the Verizon Network, most people that has a problem with the KRZR seem to have it through Verizon
HELP! i have just recently gotten a new krzr phone because i cracked my old one, i have tried today to put more music on it. I use a memory card and usb cord. I do not know why it is not working right. Whenever i plug in my phone with the usb cord, it says found new hardware and i try to install it and it says can not find hardware. I do NOT no what to do and it is really making me mad! help me pleaseee.
well, i went into verizon the other day and asked them about my problem. apparently verizon has disabled ‘bluetooth’ from letting anyone trade files with their friends on different networks because they “don’t want something harmful getting into the ‘network’” so i swapped out my krzr for a motorola q. i couldn’t be more pleased with the switch. so hopefully this helps anyone else who had the same problems i did.
I just bought 2 Motorola K1m’s on 11/06/07. First thing I tried was to download music from my pc through a usb and WMP. Says can’t connect, doesn’t recognize it. OK…I started to hit the internet and found very few positives on the phone.I installed all the updates that Moto has, along with the supposed fix that verizon has and still doesn’t work. So I went into the verizon store where I bought it and they said you have to purchase the music kit or something like that. She said $30 plus tax. I said I am taking these phones back tomorrow. That didn’t phase them. I like LG better anyway. Thanks to all of you for showing me the way.
hey yall,
It’s ken again. I ended up gettin rid of my K1M…..it was junk. After getting the updates and all, it still never worked right. The people on verizon, US Celluar and ALLTEL, all have these problems. I guess wehn MOTO redid this phone to CDMA, they had way too many glitches as the GSM model(ATT, etc.) work great. I swapped mine with Allter for the MOTOROKR Z6M and it works great. All of the problems that the krzr had, this one doesn’t. I havent had a single problem with it so far and it is great. let me know if anybody has more questions with the K1M since i still have one and some friends with it.
Ken
hey,
whenever i try to send a txt or a pic message,
it keeps saying that my memory is full..
i already deleted all my txts,
turn it off and on
took out the battery and the memory card
and it still wont work!
does anybody know how to fix it?
[Comment ID #37435 Will Be Quoted Here]
If your trying to text and find that when you click on new message, and it tells you that memory is full, and there is like nothing in your in or out box. Here is the way I got it to get around the memory full issue.
Click on Message
Then Settings
Then All Messages
select auto erase —> it settings should be defaulted to Off, click on On.
Once you do this the memory full issue is gone. Now what else does it effect, well you will need to keep checking to make sure it is not causing other ills.
This could also be the reason for the screen going white and going so slow to read and send messages.
This worked for me, it might not for you but worth a try.
I have had the KRZR for about three months and it keeps flashing a white screen whenever i open it and also in the middle of text messages or any operation i preform on my phone. Also, when i close my phone, sometimes the usual time display doesn’t show but instead the Verizon symbol as if my phone was open. Any idea’s on what this could be?? Or things i can do to stop this??

seriosuly this phone sucks.. ive only had it for mayube 4 months and everythime i type in numbers or a text or even a new contact, the numbers and letters take up to a minute to show up. it constantly freezes and misreads information.
dont but this
You can access the music externally but the play list is automatic in alphabetical order. To do it you press any of the side buttons so the ext. controls light up, then press and hold the play button for about 5 seconds then the controls will become brighter and music will play.
We purchased our daughters KRZR this summer and her phone has not worked proper 20 minutes out of the store doors. The battery does not hold a charge for more than 24 hrs regardless of use. Her phone freezes on a constant basis. Takes us more than one day to empty her Inbox and Sent box because the process is so slow and we have to re-start the process numerous times. And her most recent problem is whenever she places her phone on silent mode, the phone still rings. HaHa.
This is a nice phone, looks great, works great with a lot of neat features. As far as transferring your existing MP3′s to this phone, forget about it with Verizon Wireless. They apparently disabled this feature so that you can only have the VCAST songs downloaded. A bummer. I was thinking of getting the mini SD card and transferring my MP3′s to the card and then installing the card into the phone. Any other ideas?
[Comment ID #39145 Will Be Quoted Here]
Ken the best method is to go with the mini sd card. Most come with the adapter so transferring files will be quicker. The kit that they provide is about useless, great for syncing but other than that only to sync to VCAST. Just remember it is a bit of a battery hog when watching vids, or music. Sounds great though if pointing in the right direction.
this phone was perfect when i first got it….but the motorola repair department ended up seeing more of it than i did. i had to send it back about 4 times. once to fix a lifted faceplate, and 3 times to fix a blown little speaker. i was ok with this, because i got the phone back and it was working.
now my internal screen doesnt work…so i send it back, and the return it unrepaired saying that it was liquid-damaged. funny….the sticker in the back area of the phone tells me differently. if the phone was damaged by water, it would have showed on that sticker…that’s the sticker’s job right? i guess if the repair department did what they were supposed to do ( fix an expensive phone that is on warantee) this might have been a good phone. but without good customer and repair service, any tech-style motorola phone is a mere waste of money. shame on motorola for converting me to another brand.
Rounin, I received a Kingston 2GB memory card plus usb micro reader from Buy.com for about $25. Installed, works like a charm. The only thing I needed to do was make sure that the song files were placed into the my_music file on the card. This music player in the phone is not bad at all! After 6-hrs of trying to install software and synch-ing music, this is a refreshingly easy “modification.” Thank you for your help.

No problem, Im glad it worked for you.
Is there a way that I can change the way I view my text messages?
currently, I can’t see who sent me the message, I can only see the number.
Help please !

Hi Erika, just make sure that that person that is sending you text is in your contact list and it will show up with the person sending the text. The only reason the number would show up is if the person is not in your contact list. Hope this helps.

Hello,
I have all the names in my contacts, and my friends have the same phone as me, and theirs show the names, so I took my phone back to the dealer, and she told me that all motorola phones dont show the names of the people who sent texts and who you sent them to.
I feel like she lied, because all the phones my friends have do show the names..
what do I do now !?
oh, and in my outbox it just says my number and the message..
and not the person i sent it to, or their number ?
is there something wrong with my phone ?
or are they all like that ?
i’m thinking its just me..
Does anyone have experience with the Motorola Bluetooth Car Kit – T605? I’d like to hook this up in my car! http://www.motorola.com/motoinfo/product/details.jsp?globalObjectId=174

I don’t think its you. Who is the service through? Verizon Wireless, Cingular, TMobile? And are your friends on the same service. I looked at my phone and I didn’t see anywhere that you would make the change from number only to contact listed names, I am on verizon and I have run some updates, but I know before the updates the phone did still show the names as long as it was in the contact list. Sorry if this is not alot of help. And if the dealer told you that it doesnt show names, the krzr’s, rizr, razor do show the names on texts and the sentbox. Actually even my cheap cingular crappy phone shows the name as long as they are in the contact list. So again someone that didnt know what they were talking about. Instead of saying honestly I dont know but let me find out instead you always get the ones that show you on the phone well its not working on yours so now all the phones in the world does the same thing which is nothing. As they say put the information on 3 websites and people will believe it to be true :)).
[Comment ID #39483 Will Be Quoted Here]
I guess I should read :)). Ok so you are on verizon wireless, and mine does show the contact and not the number. So I would suggest taking your phone to the Verizon Wireless Store, not the 3rd party that sells Verizon Wireless phones. Contact customer service to find the closest to you. And well if it was actual Verizon owned store, then talk to a manager or a elite member and they can assist you. Don’t go to the ones in the mall.
I am on Aliant. I live in canada.
but I don’t think the Carrier should affect the actual phone should it ?
my friends are all on aliant as well.
[Comment ID #39514 Will Be Quoted Here]
No the carrier should not matter, the only thing I noticed is just your available languages, English and French. Do you have it set to French? Or see if you can change the language and see if it will make a difference and then change it back. And if your friends are on the same carrier and has the same phone then it should be working. The only other thing is to have Aliant default the phone back to as if you bought it, and re-enter your contacts and have someone text you.

and if that doesn’t work, I will take it back and do what you suggested !

Thanx guys, you’re a big help :)
my KRZR’s front music lights will not turn off. the music player IS OFF and i dont even have any music on it, but the lights with the play and skip buttons remained lit up for as long as my screen is lit. i have had it for awhile and it did not do this before at all. i thought the lights were supposed to not be lit up when the player was off …???
[Comment ID #39654 Will Be Quoted Here]
Did you run any updates from motorola? If you did that is what caused it. I also did not have the lights come on, but now when i touch the button to the side the play button lights up. If you did not run the update, then I dont know. I know mine did not do this till I updated. Also is your video now zooming closer without the resolution changing? Or the pic taking is zooming but the numbers are not changing?
I have tried several bluetooth headsets with the KRZR with no success. After about 10-20 minutes, the person on the other ends says my voice is breaking up. Has anyone else had this problem??? Does anyone successfully use a bluetooth and if so, what kind???
In response to earlier comments (and the review above) about not being able to access the music player externally, that has changed (for new Verizon phones, at least). I can confirm that pressing and holding the left smart button on the phone turns on the player and lets you use the touch controls without opening the phone.
I need help…. i just got my new KRZR K1M and i was trying to figure out how to put the mp3 songs that i have as my caller id’s but it wont work. On my last KRZR, the blue one, it was super easy to do. Everything is on my memory card but it wont read off it. I looked at the details and i says it could be applied as one. There is no other way i can figure this thing out.
[Comment ID #39791 Will Be Quoted Here]
If the phone is like a verizon phone then it is locked down. And you have to place your custom ringtones in the phones internal memory. And it does not pull from the phones mini sd card.

I tried several different motorola bluetooths with the same problem. I finally ended up trying a Plantronics 510 that works great. I am told that I can be heard better with than without. Ebay- about $40.
I had no idea using the phone would be this difficult. My phone came with no memory card. Is it best to buy the card or to download the Motorola tools to transfer my songs to the phone?
[Comment ID #39888 Will Be Quoted Here]
Buy the mini sd card. And also buy a memory card reader. Most mini sd cards come with an adapter to adapt to the standard sd memory card. Its easier to upload songs via a reader then direct to the phone.
I have had this phone for almost a year and my battery is acting funny. It will charge for a short amount of time, then stop but say the battery is full when it actually isn’t. Then it dies down very quickly. Also, I have found that the front breaks very, very easily and is the case with anybody I have ever met who has had the phone. Doing it over again, I probably would not have purchased this model.
I have the same problem with my phone, it worked great for about 6 months, now it will not hold a charge. When I charge it, it says the charge is complete but after one use (no matter how short)the battery goes dead. Sometimes the phone blinks from black and white and will not work at all. I plan to take it back to Verizon this week.
Jenny, I just replace my battery for the exact same reason. Your battery is shot. Mine lasted 1.2 years. I recommend buying a Motorola battery. I bought a no-name battery and it was slightly thicker – the back cover would not close. I had a crappy case for the phone, so that held the back plate in place and I attempted to keep using it as I spent $40 and could not return the opened battery. However: 1) when charging, the phone says, “Unable to Charge”, even though it does charge; 2) the phone does not know anything about the battery life, so when the battery is about out, the phone will cut off and you have no warning. I ended up placing the no-name battery on a shelf of junk in my basement never to be used again and spent another $30 ($10 company discount, yea) on the Motorola battery.
Oh, and the only reason I bought the no-name battery in the first place was because I got fed up waiting in line at the stupid Verizon store at the mall. You might be able to get a no-name on-line for $20, but I wouldn’t bother. It’s ridiculous, though, because now you can get a krzr for $20 after a rebate (and a 2-year plan). WTF.
Does anyone know of a good Verizon phone similar to the krzr that has a flash? The only time I take pictures is when I’m drunk, and I’m usually drunk somewhere with poor lighting, which renders the camera completely useless. Really, is it that hard to put a little LED flash on these things?
Okay I uploaded songs using USB to my Krzr (finally) I even converted an mp3 into a ringtone. How do I assign the rintone to a contact or even move the ringtone (it is on the phone as a sound)to be able to actually use it as a ringtone?
[Comment ID #40008 Will Be Quoted Here]
FYI on the verizon Krzr phones, the ringtones have to show up in the ringtone list. If it is not there it cannot be a ringtone. Don’t know if the Cricket service is the same. If it is the same then the phone is locked down. Meaning you have to hack the phone. I believe you can send yourself a email with the mp3 attachment and i believe you can tell it to save it as a ringtone. Didnt do it myself, since all ringtones suck on the internet, and nothing in japanese jrock. So customed myself.
Just wanted to say thank you…..I’ve been having a Razr problem (‘memory full’ error when trying to text) and Googled the crap out of the internet looking for a solution with no luck. But, I found the solution here and it worked — so thanks. Very, very much appreciated.
I have had my krzr for a couple of months. The front screen light comes on just sitting there. It freezes up a lot during texting. Last time I took the battery out and put it back in and it fixed it. That was about a week ago. It’s doing it again. It is also saying something about a picture message everytime I’m using the phone.
I got a Krzr about 4 months back. At first it worked fine, but then the battery mysteriously wouldn’t charge up any more. When I plugged it in with the charger the phone would say that it was charging, but it never actually would charge, even after HOURS of trying. I took it to a store to ask what was wrong with it, but they had no idea and just gave me a new one. I hope this doesn’t happen again…I wasn’t even able to get my contacts off of the old phone.
I have a KRZR and it is showing a white screen, does any one out there know how to fix the problem. Or where you find the little sticker in the back of the phone and what I should liik for when I find the phone? My daughter was using the phone for texting and then the phone now has a white screen that will not go away.
Laura
I’m so glad to hear that other people are having the same problems as me… I’m on my 3rd krzr, soon to be the last because I keep encountering the same issue every four months, I could almost mark it on my calander when its going to go all crazy on me. So here’s what happens, it always happens in the middle of a text, it starts to go through a cycle every 30 seconds where it freezes then says that there is no service, then it finally gets reception again but then 30 seconds later it starts all over again. This drains the battery dramatically and makes it impossible to text. I can still send and receive calls but every time it tells me that I have a new picture message, which I don’t. The most frustrating part of this whole thing is that when Verizon gives me a new phone, which they should be credited for doing, I lose all my pics and ringtones. I just want a phone that isn’t going to freak out every 4 months…
These phones are HORRIBLE! I have went through three of them in less than a year. The first one just stopped working, the second one had something wrong to where i couldn’t hear what people were saying when they called, and they couldn’t hear me. The third one’s screen just stopped working. Sure it is a nice looking phone for the first week, until it gets fingerprints all over it. I would not recommend this phone to anyone.

Quick question, do any of you use your “car” charger more than the “wall”? The reason I ask is because of a problem I had with the battery. Apparently the car charger is to powerful and “explodes” the battery. The phone would charge in a matter of minutes and die in a matter of seconds. I was advised NOT to use a car charger, at all. Unless you want to keep replacing batteries.
Oki,
I recenlty purchased a KRZR K1m, actually I recieved an awesome deal so than I decided to get it. Without the deal, this phone would’ve been my last choice. Here’s the situation, I realize I need a “micro-SD card” for music and such, however, all I do is place the card in the appropriate place, connect to PC thru USB, and that’s it? My phone and computer will automatically detect the card and storage? I have the updates and am able to sync from PC to Phone..am I good to go?
ANOTHER QUESTION…
Okay, I am with the Verizon network, and recently switched from an older LG model to the Moto KRZR K1m. I find that I need to save the “area code” before each phone number in my contacts in order to get “caller i.d.”. I have never had this problem on any other phone. Am I being charged additional fee’s from Verizon because of this? (I am on the Nationwide calling plan) Also, what needs to be done in order to save just the number (i.e. ***-****) for my redial and callier i.d. to work?
Can I view my texts from the front screen on my krzr? If so , how?
I recently subscribed to Napster for unlimited downloads and transfers to my media players. I can get the songs to sync to my MP3 player but they will not transfer to my krzr. I connect using a usb cord, the napster software reads the phone but when I attempt to transfer I keep getting a transfer error. Any thoughts?
I’ve read that some player will not suppport subscription rights and downloads. Is that the case with the krzr? Will it not support downloaded music with subscription rights/properties?
[Comment ID #40908 Will Be Quoted Here]
Best bet is to buy a mini sd card and a sd card reader and transfer to it via that method. The other is a power and most of the time doesnt work as well.
My KRZR won’t play any ringtones or alarms. I have the volume set at high but it won’t play anything when a call comes in or i try to listen to a ringtone. But the buttons still beep when i push them. If anyone has had this problem or know how to fix it will you let me know.
[Comment ID #40922 Will Be Quoted Here]
Will it play the factory ringtones?
No it won’t
[Comment ID #40925 Will Be Quoted Here]
Hmmm can you actually go to your ringtones and just play them manually? Or even attach them to the alarm clock?
I can’t play them manually and it doesn’t work for the alarm clock part either
[Comment ID #40931 Will Be Quoted Here]
Have you taken it back to the carrier to reset the phone? How old is the phone?
it is almost a year old
I just got a KRZR for free since LG phones wont work sending txt in my area. It seems that the reception is not as good as the lg. When I hold it in my hand, it looses a bar. When i set it down it will gain a bar back. My lg never did that and the lg also had 3-4 bars in my area. The hinge squeaks, and when the music player is off and you hit a side button, the <|| >> buttons light up as long as the screen is lit. Other than those few problems, call quality is excellent! Is there any fixes for these problems?
[Comment ID #40935 Will Be Quoted Here]
So it hasnt worked since you owned it… hmmm so when you go to the VCast and my ringtones, and push play it doesnt play? (I know redundent). Also when you push the volume up and put it to highest setting and push set, can you still not hear it? Last thing the factory ringtones have a lock on them correct?
i can play the vcast music…..it is just the ringtones and alarms that wont play….it did work when I bought it
[Comment ID #40941 Will Be Quoted Here]
Any new updates from Motorola? Did anyone do a custom hack to your phone? And also in the vcast section, is My Ringtones, and you will see the factory one, But you say that when you try to play those you cant hear them play. Hmmm but worked before? I am sorry for all the same redundent questions. But if you can play vcast music… Hmm can you play mp3 music from the mini sd card?

The hinge issue call it a factory related your gonna have to deal with it issue. The button on the side, you can set your screensaver on the front to turn off quicker and it should turn off. And as for reception, these are not the best in the world, mine even at times drops bars then comes back strong, and i didnt even leave the spot i was in… But other than that it is a cool phone, I only got it originally because it was cool looking :))
This phone is awful. Haven’t even had mine a year and verizon has had to replace it 4 times!! Finally they gave me a new battery cause i couldn’t use it for 5 minutes and it would die! Today I opened it up and half the screen had gone blank. Verizon is replacing my phone with a Razr…and i’m glad to be done with the Krzr!!!
yeah it will play mp3 songs but no ringtones.
I bought a practically new unlocked Krzr K1 and put music on the memory card. I was listening tho the music and arranging playlists the whole time and then it stopped playing through the ear buds and now will only play through the speaker. When I first played music it automatically played through the speaker and when I plugged the ear buds into the mini-usb port it automatically switched over. I can’t get it to play through the ear buds now at all. Please help. Thanks in advance.
I just got a new unlocked krzr k1m and I want to be able to switch between SIM cards. Where is the SIM card located on this phone and how can I get to it
Where can I find the SIM card on the krzr k1m?
cricket k1m is the best. Just plug it into a usb on any pc and tranfer music to your memory card. Make sure you save it to the mobile folder and not the motorola folder. I made a new folder in the mobile folder and save all my songs to it. I can now use them as ringtones and on my mp3. After you save and disconnect from pc, you save any song from storage device to your phone.Turning your mp3 into ringtones. This also lets you send in text.
I suggest buying a universal card. This way you can use it on cameras or psp or even pc if you have a slot. Difference in price is very little. Go to cricket or best buy.

Hi, I have a krzr 1 and I need someone help. when I open the phone to make a phone call the screen is black, it does not displays numbers or anything and it is not broken. what can it be?
Hey Guys, solved the KM1 issue with the picture id and/or default ring. You need to use the area code when you put the number in contacts. By default verizon detects the area code so without the phone is not recognizing the contact. Tried this several times worked with the area code every time.
External Controls – 3/5 stars
There is no way for a user to start music playback from the external controls, the phone must be opened to do so.
this claim is incorrect you can start you mp3 player without openng your phone. you press and hold the button which is right next to the volume control (the speakerphone button). just press and hold that button until the player pops up on the screen. if it says player error than you have no music for it to play
I have the Verizon Wireless K1m and I am having trouble getting the music to play! I transferred directly to my microSD card but when I try to play I get a “Music is not available” player error. I also tried to connect via USB and sync with PC but the driver will not load because it says I already have a newer driver installed??? Tried to connect to Motorola Phone Tools and it also won’t connect via USB but it does fine with Bluetooth and can sync Phonebook and Calendar. The phone just doesn’t seem to recognize that there is music on the card. Should the music be in a special folder and can there be subfolders, etc. I am not going to buy the Verizon Music Tools software just for transfering Music!
I bought a 2G micro sd card. It was working fine until I getting some songs
via bluetooth and now my krzr can’t read the card. Just freezes then it goes
back to the main menu. Any solutions?
I wrote a review of the MP3 capabilities and I’m not sure how this review concluded a 4/5. IMO, the MP3 player is a total non-starter with serious flaws that would prevent it from replacing an ipod in terms of usability.
I realize that getting this phone through Verizon means it is the CDMA version, because Verizon phones do not NEED a sim card to work. However, does this mean the phone has been modified to not take a sim card at all? Or is there still a sim slot, just with no card?
Thanks
Have you tryed charging it every night. I did it and now my cell holds a charge.
Whats up everyone. Save your songs to your micro sd card. Then go to your sounds and choose a song from your storage device. Then choose to move it to your phone memory . Once moved, you can choose a contact and edit to use as ringer ID.
You can use a camera usb or even a psp usb cord. Only, I suggest connecting it to the back of your computer usb plug. This way it charges your phone at the same time.
If you have the opportunity to get cricket, get it. They have the option of unlimited web for only $5 a month. Which gives you free ringtone, pics and screen saver downloads from http://www.mobile9.com at no addn’l cost. ( no airtime fees) .
Either way, it works. Also, the storage on your video can save and play music videos. I have many and they play just fine. Just save to mobile file on sd chip and mak a video file to save in. feel free to ask @ lopez.james77@comcast.net

if you press the bottom button(speakerphone button) and then hold it for 5 seconds it will start the player
METALMEGS,
the EXACT same thing keeps happening to me, right down to the ‘receive picture message’ while making calls. the phone tells me I have no service exactly every 3 to 4 minutes and the screen freezes constantly. I cannot text longer than a minute with out it freezing and shutting itself down, and it barely stays charged. I’ve only had the phone a year and I’m at my witts end.
I have no idea what to do besides shell out the money for a new phone (I usually do the upgrade every 2 years).
Hello. Just bought a Verizon Wireless K1M and am using it in Guam but not through verizon as we do not have that carrier. The phone was unlocked somewhat and I am trying to use the music I have dowloaded through the Vcast music manager as ringtones. I have tried everything with no luck and am wondering if there is a way to use these songs as ringtones? I cannot purchase ringtones through Vcast as we cannot connect to it fom Guam since it is a local carrier. Anyone know of a mod or something I can do to getsome better ringtones than the stock ones? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What I have noticed that with some Verizon Phones it won’t have the memory full issue but after 50 texts it will auto delete. Now I did an update to my phone via Motorola and I can keep texts over 50, once I had over 400 in Sent and Inbox. Try it and see what happens.
k i give up..how do u transfer music? lol i dont have verizon i have cellular one..help please
I agree this phone is a piece of junk. I got my KRZR in November and already I have had to send it in to be fixed because the screen went completely white. I have also had a problem with the life of the charge on the phone. I charge it all night and maybe 4 hours after taking it off the charge it says low battery. Did I do something to the battery or is this normal? the guy at the us cellular store said that the battery really doesnt last that long anyways
i have a krzr phone and when i was texting it just froze and the screen went blank. Thats how it is now i dont know what to do!!
IMPORTANT!
Please, do not buy this phone!
NO matter what! Do not buy this phone!
I bought the phone in March of 2007.
One day later. It broke on it’s own.
I had to pay full price for the phone,
So luckily I bought insurance.
I got a new one, which lasted for a year and a month.
Then, a few weeks ago, it broke.
Im not sure how.
But it was impossible to be fixed.
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!
I had to pay full price for a new phone.
Not the best day at the Cellular Store I might add.
Having a similar problem with the battery life. Bought the phone around January 1. I can charge it up in the evening and it is beeping low battery at 4 am, without being used at all. Doesn’t happen every day. Took it in and they upgraded the software, told me the software was several versions behind. My daughter’s is several weeks newer and has not had problems.
I have ringtones on my Motorolla K1 KRZR, that i have received via bluetooth but I can’t apply them as ringtones for incoming calls. Anyone can help me with that.
Oh my god. Permanent white screen. This phone SUCKS!
i hear ya ive had this phone for a little over a year and i just now got the white screen it sucks so hard
I have a KRZR and there aren’t many things i dislike about it but I really think the camera needs to be improved and the speaker needs to be a little bit louder, Ive had it since December of ’07 and i haven’t had any technical problems with it.
There is no way for a user to start music playback from the external controls, the phone must be opened to do so. That is not true. If you hold down the speakerphone button while the top is closed it opens v-cast.
Yeah, not a huge fan of this phone. I’ve had it for a year now and haven’t had as many problems as most, but I also dealt with the “memory full” (when the memory was not full!) issue (which is actually why I’m on this site, haha. all fixed now!!), and I’ve finally lost my center button. I had a similar problem with battery life, but I got a new battery on ebay and things were better for a while. It’s started getting bad again, though. There was a time when I couldn’t talk on the phone for 15 minutes without it dying. Lame. All this to say that when its time to get a new phone, I won’t be getting a Krzr again (and probably not a motorola at all).
Bernet,
To use your MP3′s you need to transfer them from your card to your phone. This worked for me, I hope this works for you.
Hi, My lcd screen has broken and I was told that it would cost about $65 to fix but since our two years end in November, I do not want to pay that much so soon to when I could get a new one. All I need is somehow a guide to what buttons I push to get to my music so I can still listen to music and buttons to push to get the talking phone settings so I can hear the names on my contact list since I cannot see them. Any other guiding to other important functions would also be much apreciated. Thanks!
1. to correct the statement about the external controls. There is a way to start music playing without opening the phone. Hold the little button beneath the volume control
2. I have a problem using ringtones, all of them have a red lock over them and Don’t work. My phone is forced to be on vibrate. I can only preview them if I use the earpiece What’s wrong?
i just got a MOTOKRZR K1m phone is there a sim card in it and can I switch it with my sim card from my nextel Motorola phone i530?
I just purchased the MOTOKRZR K1m and after receiving only 5 texts, the screen stated ‘messages full’. I cleared all of my messages using the ‘clear all’ however this has not worked. What should I do???
Also, I loaded 5 songs onto the phone (without purchasing any memory cards from the store) and it will not load any more. Will I need a memory card to upload more songs?
I need help!!
my phone keeps saying that first it is working then a minute later it will shut down, turn on again, shut down!!!!! what do I have to do? please help!!!my email is herrineagles@ymail.com. email me if you have any ideas. thanks. -Steffani. (pronounced: Ste-FOH-ne)
I just bought the new Krzr but what i wanna know is how do you download music on this thing???
Yes you can! To the left of the phone, on the side, second button down, close your phone and hold the button in. It’ll beep then the music player starts but it plays all your music not one particular playlist.
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!!!!!!!! It sucks the front screnn cracks very easy and everthing stops working one by one for example for some reason my camera wont open at all. Overall horrible phone!
I have a KRZR through sprint, this is the biggest piece of CRAP, its always freezing then going back to the screensaver, the batt dies so fast, im on my third one (lucky i bought the insurance) Iv had about every issue with this phone, my two years just ended and now im getting the Instinct, fingers crossed it wont be the nightmare this phone was… dont buy one, i will never buy a motorola again, im sticking to Samsung they have always been great
Worst phone I ever had. Worked very slowly when I first bought it. Updated software and worked better for a while. Now lose calls constantly, screen goes white and have to take out battery to get it to come on again, battery doesn’t last long. My wife has same phone- first one the number 9 on keypad did’t work right out of box. the replacement worked for a while but now the battery doesn’t stay charged for even one whole day.
does anyone know how to shut the music player lights on the front screen permanatly?
I loved my phone up until recently,
it vibrates for no reason, and my screen cracked !
Does anyone know how much it would be to replace the screen ?
or would it be cheaper to buy a whole new phone ?
Fragile, buggy, slow. The only good thing is the clear sounding speaker and good looks. I’ve gone through 2 phones now. First one’s earpiece speaker went out so I couldn’t hear people talking to me. The second one was permanently frozen showing only a white screen. I don’t drop/hit/throw my phones. They are just so fragile.
This phone is pretty much garbage. Mine just recently just decided that it would freeze up for about 20-30 seconds, interrupting whatever I do except a phone call, says no service and then goes back to saying it has service; it’s very annoying while trying to send text messages. Front screen cracked very easily also.
I ditto all the above comments. I too was an idiot for getting talked into this p.o.s. The battery only lasts a couple hours, and that’s when I’m not even using it. If I talk for more than 10 minutes, the battery starts beeping. At least three times a week I’m woke up at 4am with the annoying pa-dink sound saying the battery is shot. I go to Verizon and just get the runaround. They say, yeah, the battery power don’t last long. Lemme sell you a new battery. Ya think?? This phone is only a few months old, and I’m stuck with it for another 19 months. Ya live and learn. DON’T GET THIS PHONE! JUNK!
I bought my phone on october 25 from koodo. when I got it the battery was already almost dead they told me this wasnt normal and to take it home and charge it and if i had problems to bring the phone back in, well i charged it when i got home and i found it weird how it charged so fast, well it stayed charged for 3 hours and it wasnt even used. no calls/txts nothing! so i took it back and they gave me a whole new phone. a week later. i bought it bcuz my parents always had motorolla phones and nvr once had a problem with them so i thought it was a good idea. well new battery, and i got the new one two days ago, and ive charged it 3 times since then. does the battery power just suck in these phones. my old phone i even used my mp3 on it for the gym and i charged that once every 3-4 days. so far.. im not impressed! AS well i downloaded a ringtone, and have no clue where it went to in my phone, where it is saved to n where to find it and set it up Can anyone help???
I got this phone in december of 2007 and it is terrible! i am incapable of taking phone calls or making them. I charge my phone all night take it off in the morning and five minutes later it’s beeping low bat!!!! Just today every single button stopped working on my phone and is refusing to even turn on. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY!!!
I had similiar issues with the battery but Verizon replaced it for free. My wifes does RING weird. The rings are slow then fast, not sure what it the problem is.
Can anyone out there help with the download for saving music to this phone??
Please email to my address bapd108@yahoo.com
i just got mine in Nov and have had two major problems so far. the first time (after one month of use), my phone just suddenly freaked out on me when it started dialing the number 4 repeatedly by itself. i didnt even touch the keypad! i tried to turn the phone off but it wouldnt let me so i had to remove the battery. when i put the battery back in and turned the phone on again after a few minutes, the same thing happened again! so i removed the battery once again and waited some more before turning it back on. later that night, no problems. then last night, while my phone was still on, i opened the flip to try to use it and it froze. i removed the battery and after i turned it back on, it told me to insert the SIM card. it was already in there. so i kept turning it off, turning it back on, removing the SIM card several times and still it tells me the same thing. i’ve had it with this crappy phone! i cant believe i spent so much money on this garbage. don’t buy it!
yea im pissed. my krzr has every-single one of the problems you guys have talked about, the white flashing screen, no time display when closed, memory full issue, it wont keep a charge but i tried the battery in another krzr and it worked fine..yea so the way to fix all of these problems is to take your battery out, hit it with a ballpeen hammer, take your krzr and smash it against a rock, preferebley a sharp rock, and go buy a new phone hope this helped
I bought my krzr on october 23th 08 , and about 2 weeks after i bought it, it fell on grass and the screen smashed.. its junk. now it is febuary 09, and my ringer stopped working for calls, it just vibrates, i call bell and they say theres nothing they can do about it because the screen was broken , even though the ringer worked after it broke, so basically my message is to NOT BUY THIS PHONE , it is a waste of money.
So… Ya. I cant wait to get a new phone. I cant stand this one any more!!! Lets just say, this is my 4th Krzr! And omg!! Each one of them have really really let me down! I love the looks and the size, shoot even the music player and camera work fine for me. Its just the never ending Freezing it does and like i have seen on here, it will freeze for about 30 seconds then go white then have to basically restart itself. Now, for the really fun one: Recently my phone had been 100% worthless. I turn it on and off over and over again, taking the battery out doesn’t help, but the screen is permanently black and the main screen is permanently white… WHY IS THIS!!!?? Grrrr! P.s. DONT BUY THIS JUNK!!
i have a krzr k1m and have had it since dec of 07 and i think it a really ok phone it does what i want it to and it does it well. the speaker is very good and is nice and loud. i also put in a memory card so it now can hold even more than it could. speaking of holding it can also hold allot of msges on it. most of my friends that have different phones say that theirs can only hold 100. but my krzr can hold like 860 its so great. the only bad thing is that if you leave to many msges on it it can reall slow down the phone. another bad thing is that since the top is glass it gets fingerprinty and breaks easily. i should know because i dropped mine and it just kind of shattered. i have had to get another one now. but i soon get to get a new phone.
ok I have read all these coments and i have had all the same problems plus more. the screen, white and frozen, oh and a way to fix that is when the problem starts open and shut you phone over and over again until it comes back., also it vibrates on its own, the ringer stopped for incoming calls, but i have also had where all my messages stop showing who txted me and just showing a little mail box on the top of my screen, the camera rarly even opens, and before the white screen came in my list of problems the screen would go colorful and in different patterns and some times the screen would turn upside down. this is just a small amount of anoying problems with this phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i HATE this phone and i advise nobody to by it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this phone is ok. but it does have a problem of freezing up once in a while. and coverage is pretty bad. i got mine from verizon. but my main problem with the phone is that i cant find a driver that works to transfer songs to it. ive looked everywhere. and i found one that was supposed to work but didnt. and i am big on taking videos but without a memory card you can only record around 8 minutes. but the phone is kinda crappy. but decent looking.
Do not buy this phone. After a month with this phone the battery refused to stay charged and would die after less then and hour. So I bought a new battey and the same thing happened again. Also, it likes to shut off whenever it wants to.
I have a problem with my MOTOKRZR K1m the only button the that works on the phone is the power on/off , every other button is not working. Any suggestions would be great
