Verizon Wireless - Moto KRZR - September 29, 2006
Looking for a new phone? Well the brand new Motorola KRZR K1m is now available through Verizon Wireless. After being frowned upon for being the last cell phone provider to get the RAZR, VZW is now the first to get the new KRZR. This new RAZR-like phone features a 1.3MP camera, Mp3/Mp4 playback (plus V Cast Music/Video), MicroSD expansion slot, Bluetooth, and Verizon’s V Cast services. The KRZR has now has many of the features that the RAZR lacked, which include external music controls (touch sensitive), a more robust battery life, and a slightly larger internal storage capacity.
Anyways if you wish to get one it is available online now for $199 with a new 2-year contract and $99 for existing customers who are eligible for upgrade. (Note: Won’t be in stores until October 5th) Although we havn’t had a hands-on-review yet, by the looks of it, it seems as though it will be a pretty good phone, despite the fact that it is a bit pricy. Also Skatter Tech will be getting a KRZR by Monday (10/02/06), so check back and expect an in depth review with plenty of pictures soon!

I’ve been looking to buy a new phone for awhile now. I came across the KRZR K1m and I’m really interested in it. I’ve asked a couple of my friends from school who own the old RAZR, I’ve heard nothing but negative comments on it.
I’m not sure what the difference is between the old RAZR or this new KRZR. For anyone who owns this phone, I just need to know if it’s any good?
Habiba says
it’s not bad. however, everyone- and i mean EVERYONE has had trouble putting ringtones and other music on it. and depending on what provider you have some features are blocked so you can’t transfer stuff form another type of phone. hope this helps. others please feel free to add on or disagree with what i wrote.

Well, the title of this discussion area is VERIZON K1m. I own one now for about 9 months, I have a 1 gig micro SD card in it and many, many songs and ringtones that I put in the phone. I have made ringtones and put them in it too. I learned how to do it and shared the info ALL HERE. I got bold enough to do the SEEM editing too to tweek some things. ALL THE HELP AND LINKS AND INFO TO DO THIS ARE ALL ON THE LAST 2 PAGES OF THIS FORUM. Please look them over before asking the same questions over and over. Yes the phone is locked down by Verizon, but the ways around it are HERE!

The Krazer is a great phone!! It does has it share of problems but it is a great phone. My question is that I reformatted the SD micro disk with my computer and now it still won’t download the songs correctly and now the computer won’t even recongize the disk. What do I need to do to fix the problem?
Gregg says
Put the micro disk in your computer, delete all the folders, put it back in your phone and your phone will create the folders and the exact names. Then you can put it back into the computer and load it up with songs !!!

Hey i just got my Krzr Yesterday… while i was putting contacts in it, it just went blank… so i took out the battery and put it back in, turned it on then all it shows is that “verizonwireless” screen i waited for a LONG time.. so i went and tald my dad.. he thinks i broke it… but it just froze now it doesnt wanna turn on, charge, and turn off.. i am so sorry if this is a repeated question i just need help its my first time here…. So what do i do???
Gregg says
I think it means you should take it to where you got it and let them either reflash the firmware or replace it for you. Sorry, sounds like you got a bum one.

Hey folks, I got a Krzr, came to this site looking for help with ringtones, followed the direction gregg (and others) posted, and it worked terrific (thank you all). When i tried to set individual ringtones for people, i always got the default. checked here again and it said that vibrate must be disabled, checked my phone and it was checked as disabled. On a whim, i checked it to Enabled, and tried again… individualized ring tones (with vibration)! When i ran the motorla update software, it found new software and installed it. It is POSSIBLE that the vibrate enabled/disabled thing was changed in the latest version… either that or i got the ONE weird phone that needs it ENABLED instead of disabled. try both if you are having this problem… it may depend on your software.

This is an addition to all posts regarding the “motorola phone tools” restriction on adding and editing photos/ringtones/videos for the verizon krzr. If you don’t want to edit the seem (good choice), there’s still a way to edit multimedia in MPT. Here is how:
Open C:\Program Files\Motorola Phone Tools\detect.inf
if you did not install MPT in the directory C:\Program Files, make sure you find out where it is because it obviously will not open otherwise
This will open what is similar to a .txt document and you may have to do some searching, but find the following code:
[K1m]
Driver=K1c
Manufacturer=+CGMI: “Motorola CE, Copyright
Model=”"MODEL=K1m”"
CapaNetwork=CDMA
PnPNames=Motorola USB Modem
BT=1
DeviceFile=MotorolaGeneric_1.htm
PairingFile=MotorolaGeneric_2.htm
PicturePhone=Moto_K1c.jpg
ID_DEVICE=1777
and add an m to the end of the driver so it now shows:
[K1m]
Driver=K1cm
Manufacturer=+CGMI: “Motorola CE, Copyright
Model=”"MODEL=K1m”"
CapaNetwork=CDMA
PnPNames=Motorola USB Modem
BT=1
DeviceFile=MotorolaGeneric_1.htm
PairingFile=MotorolaGeneric_2.htm
PicturePhone=Moto_K1c.jpg
ID_DEVICE=1777
other than that, leave everything else the same.
save and close.
Open MPT. If it still recognizes your phone, just go menu->setup->connect a new phone. just unplug and reinsert the usb cable and it will recognize your phone–still as verizon–but now it will allow you to use multimedia studio.
It worked great with my phone and this way you don’t have to worry about completely screwing over your phone and voiding your warranty.

Can someone please give me the path to where you change the tone for your text messages? I have changed it before but now I cant find where I need to go to change it again. Thank you!

” I have loaded a bunch of mp3 ringtones on my KRZR for free. They need to be short and 96 bitrate. AND vibrate has to be turned OFF. Check this website for the instructions and links to download a few things. PKCommander is an easy to use program. HAVE FUN.

Having trouble with this…the p2kcommander does not work…says to insert disc into drive d:?

To the post “thebridget says” You rock!! Thanks so much, it worked like a champ!
Just FYI, you must have at least MPT 4.3.3 for it to recognize the K1m
