Verizon Wireless - Motorola KRZR

Looking for a new phone? Well the brand new Motorola KRZR K1m is now available through Verizon Wireless. After being frowned upon for being the last cell phone provider to get the RAZR, VZW is now the first to get the new KRZR. This new RAZR-like phone features a 1.3MP camera, Mp3/Mp4 playback (plus V Cast Music/Video), MicroSD expansion slot, Bluetooth, and Verizon’s V Cast services. The KRZR has now has many of the features that the RAZR lacked, which include external music controls (touch sensitive), a more robust battery life, and a slightly larger internal storage capacity.

Motorola KRZR ImagesAnyways if you wish to get one it is available online now for $199 with a new 2-year contract and $99 for existing customers who are eligible for upgrade. (Note: Won’t be in stores until October 5th) Although we havn’t had a hands-on-review yet, by the looks of it, it seems as though it will be a pretty good phone, despite the fact that it is a bit pricy. Also Skatter Tech will be getting a KRZR by Monday (10/02/06), so check back and expect an in depth review with plenty of pictures soon!

Edit: My carrier is US Cellular.. and we have called them to their nerves. help please! ASAP

Gregg says

Hi Kait, I think you have mp3’s from Limewire right? You added a Micro SD card in the back of the phone by the battery, right? You also need a SD-micro reader/adapter and dump the mp3’s in your MUSIC folder on the storage card. Put it back in the phone, then on the phone, go to GET IT NOW, press 1-Music and Tones, press 4-My Music, and select 4-songs and VOILA!!!!!
Just saw on NEWEGG.com a great deal for an internal multi reader, only 10 bucks!

I found a way to use a USB cable to send ringtones to your KRZR phones. I have Verizon too and this worked for me. I can’t remember the website I found this on but I will try to guide you through. All ringtones have to be less than 20 seconds. I used Audacity to create 20 second MP3’s. Works and sounds great. Download the MSU (microsoft software update). connect your Krzr to your PC via a mini usb connector. Run the MSU, it’s ok if it says it has most current version. I’ve never had to update the software. It just says to do it. connect to your KRZR via windows explorer. You have to delete the DB tones from the 1st menu. then navigate to applications then sounds folder. I can’t remember the exact path. When in sounds folder you can import any 20 second MP3 you wish as a ringtone. Once it works, I recommend getting all the ringtones you want imported all at once. If you do one song and then set a contacts ringtone, the next time you import a ringtone, the contact ringtone will sometimes change that you already had set. I think it has something to do with the order of the songs in the catalog. Once all your songs are imported to this folder (and you can delete the standard weird tones that verizon puts in there). Power down the phone and restart. It will update your software automatically and the DB tones will be back in there. All ringtones should be easily set to your contacts and regular ringtone. I am going to actually try the procedure tonight as I haven’t done it in a while. I’ll post an update if any procedure is different.

EDIT: Updating my last post. I misspoke a few things. Don’t use windows explorer. Download and use the P2K commander. And MSU is Motorola Software Update. The P2K commander window has 2 sides. Navigate using the right window. All the rest is the same. There is also a settings option for all ringtones. Set them as master.

EDIT: I think this will be final update. On P2K Commander. Path for folder to put your 20 second mp3’s. a/motorola/shared/ringtone. And the settings for all your mp3’s is under the attributes button (system, survive master reset/clear option.)

I have a KRZR KM1 from Alltel. I have a 1gig memory card also. I saved all the pictures & ringtons I wanted on it and then put it in the phone. I can set my pictures as my background, but I can’t assign them to a contact. I also can listen to my ringtones on the MP3 player, but I can’t set one as a ringtone! I also can’t figure out how to save my contacts to the memory card. I don’t understand this phone. It is such a piece! I hate it. Basically I just wasted the money I spent on the memory card because I still don’t have a bit more usable memory than I had before! Does anyone know how to fix these problems?

Jorge says

I’m in the same boat as “Rbranha2″. I have the KRZR KM1 but can’t seem to get the sounds from my card to become a my ringtone. Help!!!

Jerry says

I don’t know if it will help with Alltel programming, but try cropping your MP3’s (ringtones) down to 20 seconds. It could be a KRZR thing. Which all my mp3’s have worked as ringtones.

Dirt says

For my KRZR with Verizon I used the info on:
http://aznuwee.googlepages.com/
It worked like a charm. I added ringtones even larger than 60 seconds.
Note: Change the ‘mp3′ extension to ‘mid’ and then the ringtones can be set to individual contacts and the default ringtone doesn’t get substituted in.

Jerry says

That was the website I used too. I just couldn’t remember it since I have done it so many times, I didn’t need to go back to the page. And if you change the extension from MP3 to MID you can do 60 second ringtones?

Habiba says

i just got my KRZR K1 yesterday. my wireless provider is Rogers (i live in Canada). i’m assuming i have to buy a micro sd card in order to upload music so i’m ok with that. what i wanted to know is if all krzrs have the touch-sensitive music play buttons on the front because i can’t see mine. i can see the charge icon and the bluetooth icon above the mini display but i can’t see the music buttons. any help?

Habiba says

in addition to my last post… do i also have to buy a micro sd card reader? i’m technologically challenged so i don’t really know what i need and what i have to do. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Harry says

Reply to Habiba:
When you buy a micro sd card, it usually comes with a regular sd adapter into which the micro fits. This then is placed in a sd reader/writer which is plugged into your usb port. Also, I believe the K1 does not have external touch controls for the player. The K1m Krzr provided by verison, alltel, Telus and Bell have the external controls. Also, look at your manual and find directions to turn off the blue tooth. If the blue tooth icon shows, it must be enabled. If you are not using blue tooth accessories etc. turn it off. It is a big energy sapper.

Habiba says

aw. sucks for me. i would have loved to not have to open my phone to play music. thanks for the sd help. i’m not tech savvy in any way. thanks a bunch.

Tasha says

gosh! i freakin BOUGHT yan krzr because i thought, like the razor for verizon it could record a sound and play it as a ringtone, but NOOOO! i buy my family a family plan, and i get jipped! on the internet i got this deal where if i got this fone they could all get razors of their choice, and i thought mine would be like theirs, same features, just smaller and better.
but heck no! my family has those features! BUT MINE DOESNT!
if they are going to strip one fone, STRIP THEM ALL! this is just not fair, and i was lead to believe it was a verizon feature on all of their phones, not just razorz! as you can tell, i’m very upset about verizon’s stupidity to make that move.
i mean i totally understand them not wanting us to get ringtones for free, but if you take it from one phone, take it from them all, because friends talk to friends and it makes it seem as if verizon has a great fone deal. which it DOESNT!

Zach says

I have a motokrzr and I put some songs on my micro scandisc and i put it in the phone, and it is not detecting it, anything i can do?

Harry says

Zach,
I posted a similar query a few days ago except I do have some songs on it already that plays with both the MP3 Player and the sound player. I added a ripped album to the sandisk micro sd but my phone couldn’t detect them. I looked at the files and found them to be not Mpeg 3s but some windows media player format. I reripped them using Itunes (you can specify what the format is and what the bit rate is) My mp3 player still won’t play them but the sound player detects them and plays them. Apparently you can use the windows media player and specify the rip format also. I found out at the following url http://mp3.about.com/od/ripandburncds/ss/cd_to_mp3_2.htm
I hope this helps.

I bought a Krzr and when I plug it into my computer, neither the cell phone or the computer recognize each other. I have gone to the Motorola software updates, but it won’t recognize the phone on my computer and says, “cannot connect.”

Blake says

I just recently purchased the LG chocolate phone. With the phone, i bought the memory card, and the blue tooth thing so that my phone could connect to the computer. All of my music is on Windows media player and i was wondering how the heck i can get that music ONTO MY DAM PHONE. Ive been trying for a couple weeks now with no luck. Please help…..

Roy says

Just remember if you use p2k commander to load the ringtones, you must delete the MyTones.db file. Then power the phone off and on again. The file will re-build itself, and the new tones will show up on your list. Also if you go to http://www.hacktherazr.com there is instructions to edit the phones seems so that Motorola phone tools will work with your Verizon K1m.

Here is the secret that Verizon doesn’t want you to know. They program your phone to show up as the K1m in seem 2742. If you follow the directions step-by-step on http://mark.cdmaforums.com , you can add a second “M” to the phones ID (probably stands for Multi Media). Once that is saved to the phone, then Motorola Phone tools has two quick programs bundled with it that allow you to take any Mp3 file on your computer, cut it to your desired length, convert it to a ringtone file and post it onto your phone. I got my KRZR in May, and by the end of the first week had deleted all the garbage ringtones from Verizon and now have custom ringtones for almost everyone on my contact list. Another great advantage is that after MPT connects to your phone, your phone book can be backed up to your computer. This way if something happens to your phone and you replace it, you just restore your saved phone book to the new phone and all is normal again. I’m far from technical and I did it !!!

PS , MPT also lets you save pix and video clips from the phone to your computer. So try the seem edit and free your K1m by making it a K1mM and do everything that Motorola intended it to do when they built it. Its your phone, so delete all the crappy pix and ringtones that Verizon gives you and make it your own !!!

Hi, i need your help!!! i transfer a song to my KRZR, but i tranfer the song to the phone not to the memory card, now i am running out of memory and i can’t delete it!!!!

I have a KRZR K1M and a RAZR VM I purchased thru Verizon and I cant bluetooth songs from or to our phones. My friends have their service thru a local company and they can transfer from their phones to each other and to Cingular RZRS.Anyone have any suggestions on how I can get around the block that Verizon has put on our phones?

Kim says

I just purchased a krzr today. I’ve got all my ringtones onto my phone quite easily, but when I set a Ringer ID to a contact, it uses the ringer as a text message alert for that contact also. Is there any I can set individual ringtones for my contacts and not have it override the default text message alert?

Ashley says

HELP!!! I’ve had a krzr for 2 months now and I still can’t get it to play/find my music. I tried directly connecting it to my comp with a USB cable, but my comp wouldn’t recognize my phone. So I got a Sandisk USB adapter (looks like a flash drive) and put music files on my microSD card that way (into the my_music folder, with no subfolders, in wma and mp3 format). But when I put my microSD card in my phone, it still doesn’t work. When I go to Music&Tones and try to open ‘my music’, I get a red blank screen the it goes back to the home screen every time!!! What am I doing wrong?? Do my files need to be in a different format, do I need to use some special program, or what???
