Verizon Wireless - Moto KRZR - September 29, 2006
Looking for a new phone? Well the brand new Motorola KRZR K1m is now available through Verizon Wireless. After being frowned upon for being the last cell phone provider to get the RAZR, VZW is now the first to get the new KRZR. This new RAZR-like phone features a 1.3MP camera, Mp3/Mp4 playback (plus V Cast Music/Video), MicroSD expansion slot, Bluetooth, and Verizon’s V Cast services. The KRZR has now has many of the features that the RAZR lacked, which include external music controls (touch sensitive), a more robust battery life, and a slightly larger internal storage capacity.
Anyways if you wish to get one it is available online now for $199 with a new 2-year contract and $99 for existing customers who are eligible for upgrade. (Note: Won’t be in stores until October 5th) Although we havn’t had a hands-on-review yet, by the looks of it, it seems as though it will be a pretty good phone, despite the fact that it is a bit pricy. Also Skatter Tech will be getting a KRZR by Monday (10/02/06), so check back and expect an in depth review with plenty of pictures soon!

Just have a few questions regarding the Krzr. Do I need a SD memory card in order to transfer .mp3’s (for ringtones) to my phone or can it be done using the stock memory. Also, is there anything I need to do to get my phone working with windows. I plugged it in using usb and it states that the drivers are not installed. Any suggestions?
Aaron B. says
I’ve combed through this thread (and the other one) and didn’t find posts related to my problem.
I’m trying to get ringtones to work on my KRZR, I’ve recoded them so they’re less than 250kbs and less than 20 seconds long. I had no problems e-mailing them to my phone and saving them as ringtones.
The problem is they don’t seem to work when I assign them to individual contacts. However, they do work when I assign them as a general ringtone so I’m pretty sure the files themselves are okay. Anyone else have this problem? Could this be another Verizon inadequacy??

For those of you wanting music and wireless stereo headphones on your KRZR K1m read on…I have spent countless hours playing with this phone and here is what I have found. 1st-i bought the Moto Mobile phone tools to sync with outlook and also do music and it works very well but i found that getting a lezar usb drive for my micro sd card moved music 1o time faster than syn via teh usb cord. Windows media player syncs to the jumo drive very fast. I loaded 60 songs in about a minute vs the 10 minutes it took over usb cable. I had to format the card and manuall create a folder called MUSIC in the right place in order for the music to show up on my k1m but it all works well now. IF YOU WANT WIRLESS STERO MUSIC is doesnt matter that the phone does not support A2DP. I bought the Moto mini usb to 3.5 MM jack ($20)and also bought the logitech free pulse wireless headset ($100). It comes with a small transmitter that plugs into the moto jack and it works GREAT. DONT USE the 2.5 MM jack because it only does MONO sound…go for the 3.5.

I have also talked to motorola about the a2dp problem. they said that it wouldnt work also but then i asked them if it would be posible for them to get a software or driver update and they said maybe. is this likely or are they just trying to keep me not so mad?

JJ gave a summary on 30 November. Who do we send our ringtones to in order to get them onto our KRZR? He said @vzwpix.com, but what is the email address prefix?
Aaron B. says
You e-mail your ringtones to yournumber@vzwpix.com.
As for my problem posted above, I got it figured out. Ringtones assigned to contacts do not work if you have your phone set to ring AND vibrate. I can’t imagine why though, what does a ringtone have to do with my phone vibrating? Strange…

Hello,
I have picked up a lot of very usefull hints for my KRZR. Especially from JJ’s FAQ write up. Thanks JJ.
Now, I have a question. This is my second KRZR because my first, the 8 was hard to push. So, now I’m on my second phone and I’ve notcied either a glitch, or i’m doing something wrong. Sometimes, and it’s happening now. If I open the flap and click the volume adjustment up as high as it goes, and then press play, nothing happens. No sound comes out of the speaker. I went to settings and call sounds and looked at my ringtones, I tried to play all of them. None of them are playing sound. But what is strange is, if someone calls me I can hear the ringtone fine. And I can go to My Music, and listen to songs in there. But I can’t hear sounds from “My Sounds” and I can’t hear sounds from “My Ringtones”.
Anyone else having this problem? Am I doing something wrong? Is this some sort of defect?
Thanks a lot.

Anthony
P.S.
I did restart the phone multiple times and took the battery out.

can anyone tell me how to get the beep.mid file set up in outlook so that when I sync the phone the reminder for outlook will set up on the phone. The current outlook wav file does not transfer over OR can the wav file from outlook be downloaded onto the phone. The reminders wont work without it.
lyne says
does this phone have a setting where i can have it vibrate AND ring at same time. I where it on my toolbelt and sometimes the machinery I work on is sooo loud I cant hear when it rings. Also anyone else have problems with the volume on this thing. I can hardly hear the other party. I always have to put them on speakerphone. Maybe 1 call out of 10 is audible. I never had this problem with any of my past cell’s before. I regret buying it.
help please says
I need help with buying a memory card for my Krzr:
I know you need a micro SD card, but I could only find a couple: not a whole lotta selection. which brands work best? Can my Krzr hold 4 gigs? Or is that over the limit? And how do i put it in?
sahas says
You will need a microSD card. From our experience SanDisk is a good brand. Also there are no 4GB microSD cards available to the public at the time being. (as far as I am aware off) The 2GB ($66) or 1GB ($30) is probably the best solution for you. The slot for the microSD is located under the battery pack lid.
Arron Hylton says
2 gig is the max on micro so far. They run $90-&130 but it is worth it.
To put in just take the back cover off the phone and slide it in under
the rubber holder which is below the battery towards the bottom.
V says
Hi Anthony, I called Verizon Wireless and the said, if you go to “My Sounds” or “My Ringtones” select the song that you want to hear and press the play button. While the ringtone is playing press the button on the side of the phone to raise the volume…you should be able to hear the ringtone.
Hope this helps!
Anthony says
V,
“Doh!” Thanks so much, I can’t believe that, I almost returned it again. Phew. Good news, thanks a lot.
I really apriciate the trouble you went through…
Thank You.

hey everyone, ok so i have the krzr for verizon. i bought the music essentials kit. which later i found out i didnt need but it was on sale for 30 and thats how much the headphones are seperate. the headphones are what made me keep the stupid set. so basically i got the usb cable and cd for free. i ordered a 1gb card off of amazon for 30 bucks after shipping, which is a great deal compared to verizons rip off prices on their mem. cards. the card came with an adaptetr and i bought a cheap card READER/WRITER. you need the write too, some are only readers so watch out. i put alot of music on their just by finding my memory card in the “my computer” folder and simply opening that up and dragging the songs i wanted into the folder pre-made named music. then you go to the section on your phone where you would go to listen to ringtones and instead of going to ringtones click on my music. this should open up and load all of your songs and press play for a song then you can shut your phone and the outside buttons will light up and that feature is what makes this phone so cool. but now for my question. my worked for about two weeks, but now it will attempt to load my music but it will freeze and then eventaully just take em back to my main screen. i was wondering if anyone else had the samething happen to them and if they could help me out
thanks

I’ve just been reading through the email strings looking specifically for info on how to use stereo (the ones that plug into the phone) headphones with this pohone. I’ve purchased two pairs now on ebay and neither pair worked. I tried both pairs on another KRZR and they didn’t work either. I’m assured that they are the correct headphones for the phone. Someone wrote that he had difficulty getting them to work, but has anyone been successful with this?? Its the only reason I bought this phone for my son!!
thanks!
tony says
Jason,
My Vz K1m froze on me to when I opened to player. It turned out that some of the songs’ names were asian character set. I renamed those song names and the problem went away.
JJ says
Trish,
I had the same issue with headphones; usually it is because they were headphones made for another RAZR phone, like the V3 or something. I went to a Verizon Store and bought the music kit ($30, same price as the headphones on their own), and opened them in the store and tried them out. I’d put some music on the phone before you go to the store to make sure the headphones work for calls and music playing.
Brian says
Hey, I have a Verizon Krzr…great tips on getting ringtones by emailing them to the phone by the way…but i have another problem. When I try to record video to my sandisk micro sd card a message appears that says “Unable to Record Video”, even though there is more than half the memory left on the card. But, when I record video to my phone’s memory, they work fine. Therefore, the problem must be with the memory card, right? I was able to record the video to the sd card until I connected my sd card to my computer using a sandisk card reader and tried to add videos to the card. Do I have to reformat the card and lose all the music i have or is there any other way to fix it to record the video to the card?
Thanks

Okay. I’ve had my verizon Krzr for a week now. I still have 1 week to decide whether or not to keep it. I am really pissed about the A2DP issue, especially because Motorola is coming out with the T605 car kit which allows you to play mp3s from your phone over your car stereo via bluetooth. You need A2DP though. The whole thing pisses me off. the only port is a USB port and then you cant use bluetooth to listen to earphones, nor and you use regular earphones. what is the point of even having a music player? who wants to listen to their favorite music over the built in speaker!!? sorry for the vent.
what is the possibility of the A2DP getting fixed? does verizon have another phone that doesn’t have all these issues?
sahas says
@ Shawn I.
We reviewed the KRZR and we weren’t too happy with it either. I have had a chance to play along with some newer Verizon phones recently and I have been quite pleased. If you are looking for a KRZR-like bug-free phone i’d suggest the LG VX8600. I also found the new LG enV to be quite powerful and function as a Mp3 player although it is a bit bulky. I would suggest purchasing or exchanging the KRZR for either of those two phones.
Tasha says
k so ive been looking at the krzr at my local telus store, and im in love with it. but now ive read everything that you guys are saying about it and im scared to buy it. i just got a new ipod so im not too worried about the mp3 part. i just want a stylish new phone. can you tell me of any issues ill run into if i just want to use it as a regular phone? how loud do the ringtones go? the phone i have now, even on high, the ringers arent very loud. if i do buy it, and ill have to pay full price because i already have a contract, will i be disapointed? i dont want to spend 500 if its for nothing. i would just be using it as a regular phone, calling and texting. are there any major issues concerning those features?
Tiger says
To Tasha,
This KRZR is a nice phone to have if all your going to do is make calls. The ringer goes quite loud with the default rings. The problem lies in the extra features that we want to get working (e.i. actual music we upload to the phone as ringtones, connection problems, ect…) Otherwise, the stylish and compact phone is quite decent.
bad animals says
a strange K1m problem.. i’ve been dropping different mp3 into the my_music folder on my SD disc. no matter how many, which ones, title length or size(128or192).. only the first song(alphabetically) shows up in the phone. it plays just fine. the phone shows that the card is full but only the one song shows up. i’ve reformatted the card and etc… but still the same thing. i turn the phone on, go to my music and it only adds that one to the library.
any thoughts? thanks.
