Verizon Wireless - Motorola KRZR

Looking for a new phone? Well the brand new Motorola KRZR K1m is now available through Verizon Wireless. After being frowned upon for being the last cell phone provider to get the RAZR, VZW is now the first to get the new KRZR. This new RAZR-like phone features a 1.3MP camera, Mp3/Mp4 playback (plus V Cast Music/Video), MicroSD expansion slot, Bluetooth, and Verizon’s V Cast services. The KRZR has now has many of the features that the RAZR lacked, which include external music controls (touch sensitive), a more robust battery life, and a slightly larger internal storage capacity.

Motorola KRZR ImagesAnyways if you wish to get one it is available online now for $199 with a new 2-year contract and $99 for existing customers who are eligible for upgrade. (Note: Won’t be in stores until October 5th) Although we havn’t had a hands-on-review yet, by the looks of it, it seems as though it will be a pretty good phone, despite the fact that it is a bit pricy. Also Skatter Tech will be getting a KRZR by Monday (10/02/06), so check back and expect an in depth review with plenty of pictures soon!

First off in the future please do not post multiple comments asking the same questions. We are not ignoring you will get to you eventually. I promise. :) So to get the buttons on the outside to light up you will need to open the phone and start the vCast music store. Then select a song to play. Once your music has started playing if you close the phone the outside controls will be enabled (lighted).
And as for the syncing music procedure Click Here To View Verizon’s Step-By-Step Guide

hi Sahas, well, I didnt mean to post multiple questions is just why is this phone so hard to figure out. With all my other phones, after trying random stuff, i figure it out without any help. but this one has me stun. the link that you send, will not work for me since i do not have a usb cable. so does that mean, i have to buy a usb cable extra then using my micro sd card? Meaning, my micro sd card won’t work in transfer music directly to the phone after uploading the song from pc to memory card?

sahas says

The USB cable should cost less than $5. I suggest you get one, it is probably the most efficient method to transfer Music to our KRZR. Otherwise you will have to open your battery back lid everything you want to transfer files. It will also double as a charger so its worth the price. If you do have a card reader ( Click Here for Image ) you can still use the same method to transfer music to you phone using Windows Media Player. Or use Windows Explorer and create a folder called MUSIC and drop the files into there. Make sure your file names don’t have special characters and make sure you leave them in the main MUSIC folder don’t create sub folders.

hey i just got my Krzr a few weeks ago and i also purchased an SD memory card. When i want to download music into my phone i go to my computer and open removable disk G. Then i open another window where i have my music and i drag them into my other window where i have removalbe disk G. The only problem is that some of the songs which i drag into my phone do not appear when i search my ringtones in my phone, also if i drag videos into my phone, they won’t appear also. I was wondering if someone could help me!!!

sahas says

Hey ctap, you will need to create a folder called MUSIC in your “G: Drive” and place the .mp3 files inside of there otherwise the phone will not recognize them. Everything else you are doing is just fine. As of now there is no way to use your music as ringtones because Verizon has locked phone. And videos must be in a format and resolution compatible with the phone, any clip wont work.

Al says

Technically there is no way to set them as ringtones, but if you look at the comments placed in the Moto KRZR Review on this site, there have been some discussion as to putting MP3s as ringers. Mind you, if you have the Sprint Version, it will be slightly different due to a different UI, but for the most part ,it is fairly similar.

Hi all. The other KRZR forum has been closed because the same questions keep being asked over and over. In the interest of keeping this forum open, I’m going to brain-dump all the info I have gathered here. Please read through the forum and make sure someone hasn’t already answered your questions before posting them. All my info is based on the Verizon Wireless K1m, probably still locked, since that’s one thing I don’t know how to do.

In order of most commonly asked:

Mp3 as ringtone- you can use an mp3 file as a ringtone, with a few qualifiers: the mp3 must be under 20 seconds, and I think there is a bitrate ceiling too, i’ve been using 96 and the music is very clear. There are plenty of shareware mp3 editors that will allow you to trim and recode your mp3’s to fit. Once you have your mp3 file, email it to @vzwpix.com. when you get it on your phone, click Options and then Save Sound. the mp3 should appear in your My Ringtones folder now, and you can set it as a ring.

Getting music files on the phone- The easiest way seems to be using a usb cable and Windows Media Player. When you plug in the phone, go to the Music section and select Sync Music. You should also get a pop-up window on the pc asking if you want to sync music files using Windows Media Player. Click OK. Figure out playlists, etc on your own, make sure you sync to the memory card, not the built-in memory.
You can also remove the card, and move files manually to the My Music folder on the card. If that folder is not there, create one, but I would make sure it is named EXACTLY “My Music”, caps and all. This is also the best way to put video files on your phone, if you can find .3gp files or convert mpegs to .3gp. So far I have found entire seasons of Family Guy and Pimp My Ride in that format, and a few Borat episodes as well. Put those files in the My Flix folder.

Headphones- prepare to be disappointed and pissed at Verizon. First, even though this phone is sold as a Bluetooth device, and as a Music Player… you cannot play music over Bluetooth headphones. The KRZR does not have the A2DP Bluetooth profile necessary to do this. There might be a reason for this and maybe not.
Next option… headphones that plug into the mini-usb port. I bought Motorola OEM headphones, listed as being for the RAZRv3 and the KRZR… and they did not work. I contacted the seller and he has had multiple complaints about that.
Last option… headphones that plug into that mini-usb to 2.5mm dongle. Most affordable headphones will give you audio in one ear only. I finally found a high-end set from Shure (the E2C) that works, but it is an expensive option and so bulky that I would rather carry my ipod and earbuds.

My next project is to use the KRZR as a modem with my laptop, over a Bluetooth connection. Has anyone had any experience with that? I can’t remember the dial-up-networking settings (I used to do this with my Star-TAC way back in the day). I think the dialup number is #666 (cute) and the username/password is qnc/qnc. can anyone confirm that?

good luck everyone -JJ

I have a micro SD adapter and i do not know how to download music on to it so i could dl it to the Motorola k1m. THe problem is i cant find the file for the micro SD and when i do put the flash in nothing pops up on my screen. I also downloaded the MP3 loader and it tells me to browse on where i want the song to go to, but i cant find the SD adapter file or I dont know where to look. can ya help me??

JJ says

Nancy-
The first thing to do with your Micro SD is put it in the phone. The phone will format it correctly, with My Pix, My Flix, My Sounds folders. If you want to move music manually (not syncing via Windows Media Plr), you can create a My Music folder on the SD card when it is in your PC. Does that answer your question?

V says

I put in the Micro SD card into my phone, then connected the USB and now my PC says it can’t install the hardware. I also am not sure what to do with the MicroSD adapter…do i put that into the PC? so confused

durtyharry says

my battery wont come out of my krzr how can i get it out?

Spike says

I text myself sounds, an they are in my sounds. How do I use these as ringtones? I do not see them on the list from the contacts, it just goes to “my ringtones”. On my old phone, my sounds also showed as an option. Thx so much

Jordan says

Okay, this is probably a dumb question. I have read all these comments, and I am not convinced whether or not I should get one. It seems like there is a multitude of problems, but that is to be expected of anything…I guess. I was thinking about getting myself one as an early christmas present, but can’t make up my mind. Can someone please help on whether or not I should get one. It looks really cool, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be a good phone.

Brianna says

Get Motorola phone tools, it will solve all these problems, and it is truly a great phone!
