Verizon Wireless - Moto KRZR - September 29, 2006
Looking for a new phone? Well the brand new Motorola KRZR K1m is now available through Verizon Wireless. After being frowned upon for being the last cell phone provider to get the RAZR, VZW is now the first to get the new KRZR. This new RAZR-like phone features a 1.3MP camera, Mp3/Mp4 playback (plus V Cast Music/Video), MicroSD expansion slot, Bluetooth, and Verizon’s V Cast services. The KRZR has now has many of the features that the RAZR lacked, which include external music controls (touch sensitive), a more robust battery life, and a slightly larger internal storage capacity.
Anyways if you wish to get one it is available online now for $199 with a new 2-year contract and $99 for existing customers who are eligible for upgrade. (Note: Won’t be in stores until October 5th) Although we havn’t had a hands-on-review yet, by the looks of it, it seems as though it will be a pretty good phone, despite the fact that it is a bit pricy. Also Skatter Tech will be getting a KRZR by Monday (10/02/06), so check back and expect an in depth review with plenty of pictures soon!

KT says
Can anyone give me the exact steps or directions of transfering music from a sd card to the phone. Please?
I was wondering if the front play/pause and forward buttons are suppose at light up?
sahas says
First off in the future please do not post multiple comments asking the same questions. We are not ignoring you will get to you eventually. I promise. :) So to get the buttons on the outside to light up you will need to open the phone and start the vCast music store. Then select a song to play. Once your music has started playing if you close the phone the outside controls will be enabled (lighted).
And as for the syncing music procedure Click Here To View Verizon’s Step-By-Step Guide
KT says
hi Sahas, well, I didnt mean to post multiple questions is just why is this phone so hard to figure out. With all my other phones, after trying random stuff, i figure it out without any help. but this one has me stun. the link that you send, will not work for me since i do not have a usb cable. so does that mean, i have to buy a usb cable extra then using my micro sd card? Meaning, my micro sd card won’t work in transfer music directly to the phone after uploading the song from pc to memory card?
sahas says
The USB cable should cost less than $5. I suggest you get one, it is probably the most efficient method to transfer Music to our KRZR. Otherwise you will have to open your battery back lid everything you want to transfer files. It will also double as a charger so its worth the price. If you do have a card reader ( Click Here for Image ) you can still use the same method to transfer music to you phone using Windows Media Player. Or use Windows Explorer and create a folder called MUSIC and drop the files into there. Make sure your file names don’t have special characters and make sure you leave them in the main MUSIC folder don’t create sub folders.
ctap says
hey i just got my Krzr a few weeks ago and i also purchased an SD memory card. When i want to download music into my phone i go to my computer and open removable disk G. Then i open another window where i have my music and i drag them into my other window where i have removalbe disk G. The only problem is that some of the songs which i drag into my phone do not appear when i search my ringtones in my phone, also if i drag videos into my phone, they won’t appear also. I was wondering if someone could help me!!!
sahas says
Hey ctap, you will need to create a folder called MUSIC in your “G: Drive” and place the .mp3 files inside of there otherwise the phone will not recognize them. Everything else you are doing is just fine. As of now there is no way to use your music as ringtones because Verizon has locked phone. And videos must be in a format and resolution compatible with the phone, any clip wont work.
Al says
Technically there is no way to set them as ringtones, but if you look at the comments placed in the Moto KRZR Review on this site, there have been some discussion as to putting MP3s as ringers. Mind you, if you have the Sprint Version, it will be slightly different due to a different UI, but for the most part ,it is fairly similar.
JJ says
Hi all. The other KRZR forum has been closed because the same questions keep being asked over and over. In the interest of keeping this forum open, I’m going to brain-dump all the info I have gathered here. Please read through the forum and make sure someone hasn’t already answered your questions before posting them. All my info is based on the Verizon Wireless K1m, probably still locked, since that’s one thing I don’t know how to do.
In order of most commonly asked:
Mp3 as ringtone- you can use an mp3 file as a ringtone, with a few qualifiers: the mp3 must be under 20 seconds, and I think there is a bitrate ceiling too, i’ve been using 96 and the music is very clear. There are plenty of shareware mp3 editors that will allow you to trim and recode your mp3’s to fit. Once you have your mp3 file, email it to @vzwpix.com. when you get it on your phone, click Options and then Save Sound. the mp3 should appear in your My Ringtones folder now, and you can set it as a ring.
Getting music files on the phone- The easiest way seems to be using a usb cable and Windows Media Player. When you plug in the phone, go to the Music section and select Sync Music. You should also get a pop-up window on the pc asking if you want to sync music files using Windows Media Player. Click OK. Figure out playlists, etc on your own, make sure you sync to the memory card, not the built-in memory.
You can also remove the card, and move files manually to the My Music folder on the card. If that folder is not there, create one, but I would make sure it is named EXACTLY “My Music”, caps and all. This is also the best way to put video files on your phone, if you can find .3gp files or convert mpegs to .3gp. So far I have found entire seasons of Family Guy and Pimp My Ride in that format, and a few Borat episodes as well. Put those files in the My Flix folder.
Headphones- prepare to be disappointed and pissed at Verizon. First, even though this phone is sold as a Bluetooth device, and as a Music Player… you cannot play music over Bluetooth headphones. The KRZR does not have the A2DP Bluetooth profile necessary to do this. There might be a reason for this and maybe not.
Next option… headphones that plug into the mini-usb port. I bought Motorola OEM headphones, listed as being for the RAZRv3 and the KRZR… and they did not work. I contacted the seller and he has had multiple complaints about that.
Last option… headphones that plug into that mini-usb to 2.5mm dongle. Most affordable headphones will give you audio in one ear only. I finally found a high-end set from Shure (the E2C) that works, but it is an expensive option and so bulky that I would rather carry my ipod and earbuds.
My next project is to use the KRZR as a modem with my laptop, over a Bluetooth connection. Has anyone had any experience with that? I can’t remember the dial-up-networking settings (I used to do this with my Star-TAC way back in the day). I think the dialup number is #666 (cute) and the username/password is qnc/qnc. can anyone confirm that?
good luck everyone -JJ

I have a micro SD adapter and i do not know how to download music on to it so i could dl it to the Motorola k1m. THe problem is i cant find the file for the micro SD and when i do put the flash in nothing pops up on my screen. I also downloaded the MP3 loader and it tells me to browse on where i want the song to go to, but i cant find the SD adapter file or I dont know where to look. can ya help me??
JJ says
Nancy-
The first thing to do with your Micro SD is put it in the phone. The phone will format it correctly, with My Pix, My Flix, My Sounds folders. If you want to move music manually (not syncing via Windows Media Plr), you can create a My Music folder on the SD card when it is in your PC. Does that answer your question?
V says
I put in the Micro SD card into my phone, then connected the USB and now my PC says it can’t install the hardware. I also am not sure what to do with the MicroSD adapter…do i put that into the PC? so confused
durtyharry says
okay so i have a sprint motokrzr, up top it said that syncing it to the pc would be different but similar….okay im stupified, one thats an oxymoron comment and two how similar can it be if i still can’t get it to sync to my pc, my computer keeps recognizing it as a usb modem not a device i can put data into, please help

my battery wont come out of my krzr how can i get it out?
Spike says
I text myself sounds, an they are in my sounds. How do I use these as ringtones? I do not see them on the list from the contacts, it just goes to “my ringtones”. On my old phone, my sounds also showed as an option. Thx so much
Jordan says
Okay, this is probably a dumb question. I have read all these comments, and I am not convinced whether or not I should get one. It seems like there is a multitude of problems, but that is to be expected of anything…I guess. I was thinking about getting myself one as an early christmas present, but can’t make up my mind. Can someone please help on whether or not I should get one. It looks really cool, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be a good phone.
Brianna says
Get Motorola phone tools, it will solve all these problems, and it is truly a great phone!
Ralph says
Just have a few questions regarding the Krzr. Do I need a SD memory card in order to transfer .mp3’s (for ringtones) to my phone or can it be done using the stock memory. Also, is there anything I need to do to get my phone working with windows. I plugged it in using usb and it states that the drivers are not installed. Any suggestions?
Aaron B. says
I’ve combed through this thread (and the other one) and didn’t find posts related to my problem.
I’m trying to get ringtones to work on my KRZR, I’ve recoded them so they’re less than 250kbs and less than 20 seconds long. I had no problems e-mailing them to my phone and saving them as ringtones.
The problem is they don’t seem to work when I assign them to individual contacts. However, they do work when I assign them as a general ringtone so I’m pretty sure the files themselves are okay. Anyone else have this problem? Could this be another Verizon inadequacy??
ah says
For those of you wanting music and wireless stereo headphones on your KRZR K1m read on…I have spent countless hours playing with this phone and here is what I have found. 1st-i bought the Moto Mobile phone tools to sync with outlook and also do music and it works very well but i found that getting a lezar usb drive for my micro sd card moved music 1o time faster than syn via teh usb cord. Windows media player syncs to the jumo drive very fast. I loaded 60 songs in about a minute vs the 10 minutes it took over usb cable. I had to format the card and manuall create a folder called MUSIC in the right place in order for the music to show up on my k1m but it all works well now. IF YOU WANT WIRLESS STERO MUSIC is doesnt matter that the phone does not support A2DP. I bought the Moto mini usb to 3.5 MM jack ($20)and also bought the logitech free pulse wireless headset ($100). It comes with a small transmitter that plugs into the moto jack and it works GREAT. DONT USE the 2.5 MM jack because it only does MONO sound…go for the 3.5.
chris says
I have also talked to motorola about the a2dp problem. they said that it wouldnt work also but then i asked them if it would be posible for them to get a software or driver update and they said maybe. is this likely or are they just trying to keep me not so mad?
ron says
JJ gave a summary on 30 November. Who do we send our ringtones to in order to get them onto our KRZR? He said @vzwpix.com, but what is the email address prefix?
Aaron B. says
You e-mail your ringtones to yournumber@vzwpix.com.
As for my problem posted above, I got it figured out. Ringtones assigned to contacts do not work if you have your phone set to ring AND vibrate. I can’t imagine why though, what does a ringtone have to do with my phone vibrating? Strange…
Anthony says
Hello,
I have picked up a lot of very usefull hints for my KRZR. Especially from JJ’s FAQ write up. Thanks JJ.
Now, I have a question. This is my second KRZR because my first, the 8 was hard to push. So, now I’m on my second phone and I’ve notcied either a glitch, or i’m doing something wrong. Sometimes, and it’s happening now. If I open the flap and click the volume adjustment up as high as it goes, and then press play, nothing happens. No sound comes out of the speaker. I went to settings and call sounds and looked at my ringtones, I tried to play all of them. None of them are playing sound. But what is strange is, if someone calls me I can hear the ringtone fine. And I can go to My Music, and listen to songs in there. But I can’t hear sounds from “My Sounds” and I can’t hear sounds from “My Ringtones”.
Anyone else having this problem? Am I doing something wrong? Is this some sort of defect?
Thanks a lot.

Anthony
P.S.
I did restart the phone multiple times and took the battery out.
ah says
can anyone tell me how to get the beep.mid file set up in outlook so that when I sync the phone the reminder for outlook will set up on the phone. The current outlook wav file does not transfer over OR can the wav file from outlook be downloaded onto the phone. The reminders wont work without it.
lyne says
does this phone have a setting where i can have it vibrate AND ring at same time. I where it on my toolbelt and sometimes the machinery I work on is sooo loud I cant hear when it rings. Also anyone else have problems with the volume on this thing. I can hardly hear the other party. I always have to put them on speakerphone. Maybe 1 call out of 10 is audible. I never had this problem with any of my past cell’s before. I regret buying it.

I need help with buying a memory card for my Krzr:
I know you need a micro SD card, but I could only find a couple: not a whole lotta selection. which brands work best? Can my Krzr hold 4 gigs? Or is that over the limit? And how do i put it in?
sahas says
You will need a microSD card. From our experience SanDisk is a good brand. Also there are no 4GB microSD cards available to the public at the time being. (as far as I am aware off) The 2GB ($66) or 1GB ($30) is probably the best solution for you. The slot for the microSD is located under the battery pack lid.
Arron Hylton says
2 gig is the max on micro so far. They run $90-&130 but it is worth it.
To put in just take the back cover off the phone and slide it in under
the rubber holder which is below the battery towards the bottom.
V says
Hi Anthony, I called Verizon Wireless and the said, if you go to “My Sounds” or “My Ringtones” select the song that you want to hear and press the play button. While the ringtone is playing press the button on the side of the phone to raise the volume…you should be able to hear the ringtone.
Hope this helps!
Anthony says
V,
“Doh!” Thanks so much, I can’t believe that, I almost returned it again. Phew. Good news, thanks a lot.
I really apriciate the trouble you went through…
Thank You.

hey everyone, ok so i have the krzr for verizon. i bought the music essentials kit. which later i found out i didnt need but it was on sale for 30 and thats how much the headphones are seperate. the headphones are what made me keep the stupid set. so basically i got the usb cable and cd for free. i ordered a 1gb card off of amazon for 30 bucks after shipping, which is a great deal compared to verizons rip off prices on their mem. cards. the card came with an adaptetr and i bought a cheap card READER/WRITER. you need the write too, some are only readers so watch out. i put alot of music on their just by finding my memory card in the “my computer” folder and simply opening that up and dragging the songs i wanted into the folder pre-made named music. then you go to the section on your phone where you would go to listen to ringtones and instead of going to ringtones click on my music. this should open up and load all of your songs and press play for a song then you can shut your phone and the outside buttons will light up and that feature is what makes this phone so cool. but now for my question. my worked for about two weeks, but now it will attempt to load my music but it will freeze and then eventaully just take em back to my main screen. i was wondering if anyone else had the samething happen to them and if they could help me out
thanks
Trish says
I’ve just been reading through the email strings looking specifically for info on how to use stereo (the ones that plug into the phone) headphones with this pohone. I’ve purchased two pairs now on ebay and neither pair worked. I tried both pairs on another KRZR and they didn’t work either. I’m assured that they are the correct headphones for the phone. Someone wrote that he had difficulty getting them to work, but has anyone been successful with this?? Its the only reason I bought this phone for my son!!
thanks!
tony says
Jason,
My Vz K1m froze on me to when I opened to player. It turned out that some of the songs’ names were asian character set. I renamed those song names and the problem went away.
JJ says
Trish,
I had the same issue with headphones; usually it is because they were headphones made for another RAZR phone, like the V3 or something. I went to a Verizon Store and bought the music kit ($30, same price as the headphones on their own), and opened them in the store and tried them out. I’d put some music on the phone before you go to the store to make sure the headphones work for calls and music playing.
Brian says
Hey, I have a Verizon Krzr…great tips on getting ringtones by emailing them to the phone by the way…but i have another problem. When I try to record video to my sandisk micro sd card a message appears that says “Unable to Record Video”, even though there is more than half the memory left on the card. But, when I record video to my phone’s memory, they work fine. Therefore, the problem must be with the memory card, right? I was able to record the video to the sd card until I connected my sd card to my computer using a sandisk card reader and tried to add videos to the card. Do I have to reformat the card and lose all the music i have or is there any other way to fix it to record the video to the card?
Thanks

Okay. I’ve had my verizon Krzr for a week now. I still have 1 week to decide whether or not to keep it. I am really pissed about the A2DP issue, especially because Motorola is coming out with the T605 car kit which allows you to play mp3s from your phone over your car stereo via bluetooth. You need A2DP though. The whole thing pisses me off. the only port is a USB port and then you cant use bluetooth to listen to earphones, nor and you use regular earphones. what is the point of even having a music player? who wants to listen to their favorite music over the built in speaker!!? sorry for the vent.
what is the possibility of the A2DP getting fixed? does verizon have another phone that doesn’t have all these issues?
sahas says
@ Shawn I.
We reviewed the KRZR and we weren’t too happy with it either. I have had a chance to play along with some newer Verizon phones recently and I have been quite pleased. If you are looking for a KRZR-like bug-free phone i’d suggest the LG VX8600. I also found the new LG enV to be quite powerful and function as a Mp3 player although it is a bit bulky. I would suggest purchasing or exchanging the KRZR for either of those two phones.
Tasha says
k so ive been looking at the krzr at my local telus store, and im in love with it. but now ive read everything that you guys are saying about it and im scared to buy it. i just got a new ipod so im not too worried about the mp3 part. i just want a stylish new phone. can you tell me of any issues ill run into if i just want to use it as a regular phone? how loud do the ringtones go? the phone i have now, even on high, the ringers arent very loud. if i do buy it, and ill have to pay full price because i already have a contract, will i be disapointed? i dont want to spend 500 if its for nothing. i would just be using it as a regular phone, calling and texting. are there any major issues concerning those features?
Tiger says
To Tasha,
This KRZR is a nice phone to have if all your going to do is make calls. The ringer goes quite loud with the default rings. The problem lies in the extra features that we want to get working (e.i. actual music we upload to the phone as ringtones, connection problems, ect…) Otherwise, the stylish and compact phone is quite decent.

a strange K1m problem.. i’ve been dropping different mp3 into the my_music folder on my SD disc. no matter how many, which ones, title length or size(128or192).. only the first song(alphabetically) shows up in the phone. it plays just fine. the phone shows that the card is full but only the one song shows up. i’ve reformatted the card and etc… but still the same thing. i turn the phone on, go to my music and it only adds that one to the library.
any thoughts? thanks.
sahas says
@bad animals
Try this: Go to Menu -> Get It Now -> Music & Tones -> My Music -> Songs. Press ‘Options’ and then hit ‘5) Reinitialize library database’. Don’t know if this will work for sure, but it will re-index all the data on the card. It may take a while if there are a lot of songs, but give it a shot. Let us know if it solved the issue.
patrese says
I READ ALL of the comments and no one has answered, this question (but it has been asked) How do you get the sound to go into “My Ringers” When I email a sound to my KRZR (VERIZON). I can save it, but it stores in the “My Sounds” area. I have tried midi and mp3 and yes they are all under 20secs and 96 bitrite. IS THERE A WAY TO DOWNLOAD RINGTONES TO THIS PHONE without using verizon’s site?
ah says
ringer issue…i have tried everything to get ringers into the phone.no luck yet…bye the way…i tried a 2 gig card the phone could not handle it. I put a crap load of songs on the card and it could only pick up about half…when reading the card it lose some of the album info
bad animals says
@sahas
thanks but i should have mentioned i already tried reinitializing the library from the Songs and Albums menus. no luck. i’m wondering if i download some songs through Vcast the phone might re orginize the my_music folder somehow. maybe it needs some kind of playlist file or sub-folder directories for additional songs. who knows. but i’ve a feeling this might be special prob just on my phone? i’ll keep trying things.
thanks

Didn’t a new krazr come out or something similar? Cheaper, but better? I heard you can trade your K1m for it.
Is this true?
Jared says
I can’t get my krzr to sync up with my computer. Any ideas to why? I’ve tried removing the program and re-installing it but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Will the Krzr K1M handle a 2gb SD card or is it limited to 1gb? I have seen different comments on the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Edit IT says
All this seems like so much effort. Why don’t you
just do the seem edits and enable all the Verizon
disabled features? It only takes 5 minutes and you can use the multimedia features of Mobile Phone Tools and the TF copy move options on the phone. Not to mention many other great features. Verizon is a good network, they just try to make an extra buck off of everything which is a shame.
ah says
GODFATHER-i have tried 2 gig cards and it work off and on…the phone doesnt seem to format the card of that size well. I put about 1.7 gigs of music on it and it did not keep all the ablum titles and some songs would not play at all

I have the Krzr k1m with Verizon. My earpiece volume is very low. I have the master and earpiece volume on the highest setting. When I use my bluetooth, the volume is perfect, but when I don’t use it, I can barely hear people talk through the earpiece. Can anyone please tell me how to reset the volume settings on the phone. I have tried pulling out the battery and holding down the end button which was supposed to power cycle the phone. Did not work. This is my 3rd Krzr that has had this issue so it is apparently something I am doing. I have a feeling it is something with the bluetooth. I have also taken the bluetooth off the phone and that did not cause the volume to be corrected. Any help would be much appreciated

I bought the KRZR k1m last week. Thought I would be able to sync my Oulook via bluetooth. No deal. Spent several hours trying to figure it out. Called Verison…ouch! Their tech guys are nice, polite, but dreadfully illadvised to provide assistance. Apparently no go on the bluetooth sync options. They told me I “had” to use a USB cable due to the fact the bluetooth has been disabled for everything but the headset! Good God all mighty. They also told me that none of their bluetooth phone will sync with Outlook or any pim for that matter without using the usb! Now what kind of deal is that? Apparently I can’t sync the k1m with my Palm either. Oh they did try to sell be Q, a Blackberry, etc. But I already own a $600 PDA that works great. I just need the dang phone to work without wires…any ideas?

I have the Verizon KRZR K1m and it works great. I can not get my PC to reconize it transfering music. I have tried downloading drivers, using the software from Verizon, still I can not get it to sync with my PC. Any thoughts? I love the phone. It works great. The lights on the front work when I am playing music. But I had to download music which is just too expensive to do.

As a Mac user, I am wondering if you can put mp3 files onto an SD card and have them play on the Krzr… has anyone done this sucessfully? I got the phone on the 4th, so I have just over 10 days to return it, and I don’t want to buy a mini SD card and reader/writer if I am not able to use the Mp3 files on my Mac.
Thanks.
sahas says
@beth
YES, it will work just fine with a card reader. Just format the card in the phone first, it will create some folders. When you insert it into the reader/writer connected your computer you will see some folders. Just drag your MP3s into the “my_music” folder and that should be it!
Zeev says
1. How do I turn off the missed call reminder?
2. How do I lock the outside player controls - motorola manual says “press the side button” verizons manual does not mention it.
3.Is there a way to enlarge the fonts?

Same here, and honestly Im pretty pissed off about it. I bought the Music Essentials Kit with the Stereo Headset included.Ill say that the stereo headset is easily the best headset Ive ever owned for a mobile phone, but as far as the rest of package is concerned…IM NOT SATISFIED AT ALL!!!! I installed the software & drivers on a total of 2 PC’s & 1 Laptop, and all 3 said they couldnt find the drivers even with the disc in the drive…
I did all the “fixes” mentioned above and NONE worked. I also have Motorola Phone Tools, which is completely up to date and even that is failing to load the drivers. Is there anything I can do at all???
Also, for the said they got the software installed it,plugged in the phone & it worked fine…Did you have a memory card in it when you did all this? Or was is just the standard phone? And,when you installed the phone was it activated already? Or did you do the installation prior to activating?

I have the same problem as “bad animal”!!! Only the first song I put on my card showed up. I tried “Reinitialize library database” numerous times, turned everything on and off. The phone acknowledges that there is 500 Mb on the card but only the one song showed. I also tried to add two pictures but only the first one showed. Its a 1GB card microSD by sanDisk. I tried reformatting the card on my comp (a mac) and now the phone doesn’t even acknowledge it is there. Just now, I had my friend with a Treo put the card in his phone and he reformatted it. But my Krzr still shows nothing (looking under memory in the setting and tools menu). Any sugestions?

Hi Everbody,
I just spent the over an hour on the phone with Verison Tech support. They could NOT help resolve this problem. They suggested that I have bad phone. I have their Music Essentials software and did a scan on my C drive for any driver containing K1m and did not locate it. I did not see a driver for the KAZR listed on the install files. Has anyone gotten this to work??
Norman Picard says
I still have not gotten it to work. I do not think that the phone is the problem.
Justin says
Its NOT the phones. I spent 2hrs 3mins & 44seconds on the phone with Verizon Tech Support, and got NOTHING accomplished. The phone is NOT the problem, its is crappy motorola software & drivers. We literally exhausted EVERY OPTION,and still couldnt get it to work,on 2 different computers…
The guy said hes never ran into a problem like mine, asked me how old the comps were, etc, etc. Told him theyre just a few months old, still couldnt get it to work. At this point folks, youre best bet is to just cave in and go to http://www.tigerdirect.com and order you a micro SD card for $20 and a card reader for $5 and be done with the bullshit. Apparently Motorola doesnt care about the driver issues, since the phones been out for months now and still no fixed drivers.

I finally get my krzr (2 week new) to be recognize by my laptop. I can drag songs to krzr but can’t seem to drag the songs from krzr to my laptop. But I can live with it. Below is my experience to get all my 3 laptops to regconize the krzr. Hope this can help someone like me struggled to get it work. I have a 2gb card installed and the music essential kit.
First install music essential kit. You need to get the sync music fix (Sync_Music_Fix.exe) from verizon (http://support.vzw.com/phones/index.html?p=2586). Both Windows Media player 10 and 11 work for me, I have them on different laptop. So below are the steps.
1. If you want to be safe, turn off your krzr and maybe remove the battery for 10 seconds. Put it back and turn on the krzr.
2. Run “Motorola Driver installer.exe”, select “clean and reinstall” click “Start” button. Again, if you want to be sure, restart your PC. But I don’t have to it for one of my laptop.
3. Connect your krzr (turned on) to your PC now, it will go through a sequence intalling the krzr.
4. After it says successfully installed. Run the “Sync_Music_Fix.exe”. Then Turn your Krzr to Sync Mode (Menu-Get it Now-Muisc & Tones-6. Sync Music). Once you hit the Sync Music, Windows will go through the sequence to install the “MTP device”. After it’s done, it will bring up the program selection window to ask you what application you want to use for this device. You can choose the Windows Explorer or Media Player, etc.
After I got these steps figure out on one laptop,I have no problem connect the Krzr with my other 2 laptops. Good luck.

Hi, I just got a krzr k1m, and cannot get my computer to recognize the drivers. I did not buy the media kit, i was told i can do it by just downloading the drivers. Everytime i plug my phone in it comes up with a new hardware installation wizard, and it won’t locate the drivers that i downloaded from the link on this site. Yall have covered this extensively, and i have done everything and it still wont work. I talked to verizon for 1.5 hours and nothing. Now when i plug my phone in it comes up as an mtp device, or something like that. What the hell is going on, should i just break down and buy the kit? Or would it do the same thing? Help!
Justin says
@Chris
The kit will do absolutely NOTHING but get you quiet possibly the best non-bluetooth headset available. Other than that its an absolute waste of time, money & effort. Just do as I said above and go to http://www.tigerdirect.com & get yourself a 1/2GB SD Micro card & a multi card reader for about $30 total.

I just managed to successfully transfer an MP3 using my bluetooth connection on my laptop to the k1m. However, I can’t find the file either on the phone memory, or on the mini-SD card memory! Confirmed that the filename is not too long, in the right format. Can anybody offer suggetions?

It took me almost a month to get ring tones on my phone, there are SO many posts on the net about this issue! I’ve tried a few different ways but the fail safe way for me is to just e-mail the mp3 file to my phone. To be able to assign different ring tones to different contacts, I had to turn off the call vibrate function, which sucks because that’s a good feature. I read in an earlier post that Motorola acknowledges that this is a bug and was working on a fix. Does anyone know if this was fixed?

Has anyone tried DataPilot to transfer MP3 ringtones to the KRZR K1m ? I have successfully transferred some MP3’s and they work fine as ringtones. Others show up on the phone as ringtones, but when I try to assign them to a contact, it goes back to the default. These ringtones play fine when I play them, but will not assign to a contact. I have used the specs discussed in an earlier post. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Funny,I just got my 1GB SD Micro today. Popped it in,plugged the USB in,phone now connects NP…..
But Im not gonna bother as its just faster & easier to drag & drop with a card reader.
Doctor Dan says
Is it possible to transfer MP3 ringtones to the KRZR K1m via a Micro SD card, i.e. transferring the MP3s from a PC to the Micro SD using a card reader, and then installing the Micro SD card in the phone?

Hello everyone. I was wondering if the Motorola OEM SYN1301B headset (I believe this headset came w/ the Music Essential Package) is compatible with Verizon’s Motorola Krzr K1m because some people say it is compatible and some say it isn’t (JJ on Nov 30, above post, says his Moto OEM headset didn’t work). Also if it is compatible does the headset have a high volume level and good quality playback. Any feedback from anyone that has this headset would be great.

Hello, I just purchased a Krzr and a 1G SanDisk card. I have about 130 songs downloaded but when I try to play them it locks my phone up? A friend of mine has a Krzr and my card locks his phone up also? A co-worker of mine has a Chocolate phone and he tried my card in his phone and it worked fine and played the songs. I have a card reader and was going to erase the card but it says that its “write protected” What can I do to get the card to work on my phone or how can I erase the card? Thanks

Can anyone tell me how to disable the screensaver on the K1M? Verizon, in their youthful innocence, has utterly crippled this phone with their ridiculously useless software version. Thanks in advance.

So, i’m having issues assigning different ringtones to individual contacts, and ive tried everything like grouping contacts and i even removed a default and individually assigned ringtones to all the contacts, but all that happened was no ringtone at all. ANybody else have this problem? Some help?
Darci says
You have to disable the vibrate option or the individual ringtones won’t work, it will just use the default.

need some help here, I successfully got all my music onto my Krzr, and managed to email my phone a song under 20 seconds to use as a ringtone, and i saved it as a sound. It’s under my sounds, but there is no option to set it as a ringtone, what do i do?
Daniel says
Simple question.. How do I format the card? Thanks.
sahas says
Just place the card in the phone. Turn it OFF and then back ON.
It should then have created the my_music/flix/pix folders.

This is quite a useful thread. Thanks in advance to all the helpful people. I have a KRZR and I’m trying to transfer some mp3s and pictures to my my memory card using bluetooth (via bluesoleil). I can transfer things fine to the phone’s internal memory, but for some reason it won’t let me add or change files on the memory card. Is this normal? Or is there any way to change this? Thanks.

I’m having the same problem 2 others mentioned. I can load a bunch of songs onto my 2gb microSD card using a card reader, but only the 1st of them alphabetically appears in the mp3 player on the phone. i’ve tried putting the songs in directories individually or putting them all in 1 directory (from other posts, I now understand that up to 50 songs can go in one directory). nothing seems to work.
I noticed one of the 2 other people that posted with this problem said they were using a mac. I also used a mac. Perhaps it’s something the Mac OS does that causes the problem?
Has anyone with a Mac been able to get more than 1 mp3 file to play?
Does anyone have a fix?

I have the KRZR K1M, but the USCellular version. My issue is that I have removed ringtones via Motorola Phone Tools, but it is still listed in the phone itself, but no sound is attached (I am assuming it didn’t clean the entry in the database). Any ideas how to get that removed?

I am trying to set MP3s as my ringtones..so far, I cut the MP3 to less than 20 seconds and have it in 96 bitrate..and I emailed it to my number like JJ said. However, I can’t access my email? Was I supposed to get a notification for receipt of a new email? I tried to go online (on the phone) and access my account (which prompted me to set it up) but then it just diverted me to a screen which told me to call customer service. Did anyone else have this problem or do you have to be signed up with verizon to have an email account?
Justin says
Sounds like you have a verizon phone. If tahts the case, you cant do ANYTHING with these phone because Verizon stripped the programming & features. Everytime I call & complain & write letters, they tell me they never got any reports. I think we all need to write to Verizon & tell them we want the phones we BOUGHT,with the features we PAID FOR,not what they want to give us….
ONE PISSED OFF VERIZON CUSTOMER….
