Firefox - “Private Browsing” - May 18, 2006
Are you a Firefox user? Do you want a better way to cover your surfing history? Distrust, a little Firefox extension, will allow keeping all your browsing history in a single session private. Distrust is a type of “silent browsing” which is very similar to the “Private Browsing” feature on Apple’s Safari browser. With a click of a button anyone can easily clear/delete any new sites you may have visited since your session began. Distrust will automatically delete any new items added to your [History], [Cache], [Cookies], [Forms], [Downloads], and anything else that was stored or logged on your computer when “Distrust” was enabled.
This is much more efficient than clearing your cache after finishing your “private browsing” since clearing all content manually would delete even items that existed before you began your “private session”. Distrust is definitely an easy to use tool for all Firefox users. The extension works on Firefox 1.0 and above and runs on both Windows and Macintosh machines. The extension is still buggy at times, but usually gets the job done.

how to install extensions, do i need to place extensions in some folder of firefox ???

Just clicking in the .xpi link must prompt you to let http://www.skattertech install the extension in your browser. Once you had given permission to this site, you must click again on the .xpi link and it lauchs the extension installer. Hope this helps :) Cheers

how is this any different from Tools>Clear Private Data
(which is built into Firefox)?
“Clear Private Data” will also delete Saved Passwords and Authenticated Sessions.

the difference between using this “Distrust” Extension and regular “clear private data” method is the following:
1) “clear private data” will clean out absolutely everything you ever visited in your browser, unless it has already been purged.
2) this extension will only clear out the stuff you don’t want people to find. This works because you enable “distrust” in the taskbar when you want your “private” session to begin and click it once again to end it. Doing this will only clear the stuff you visited when it was enabled.

Will you be revising this extension so it can be used with Firefox version 2? I just attempted to install this and Firefox told me that it is not compatible with the new version. Thanks!

Great tool my antivirus found many virus in cookies last month. It will be great if the firefox will going to delete all cookies.

Just found your great extension, tried to install it, BUT will not install in anything but FireFox 1.x… unfortunately we are not @ FirdeFox 2.x

I feel sorry for you, that all your sad mind can consider is that this extension, designed for clearing of private data, somehow equates with activities that YOU feel qualified to be able to judge in others. Your expressed opinions seem very arrogant and unChristian. How do you presume to act as a judge of others? Do you think you are so above others? All people have a right to their own privacy as long as they do not hurt others. This extension clears sensitive private data from a system and thereby helps minimize identity theft and increases personal security from those that have no right to look into others private matters. You seem so angry and bothered by a simple privacy tool.

he’s probably uncomfortable with his own lack of performance in the bedside. Tools like this are awesome. So is being comfortable with your sexuality. Try making love while looking to porn. I think you’ll change your mind. There are many other uses for a tool like this when your computer is communal. What if your searching for a gift for someone else who uses your computer? What if your preparing a surprise? What if your researching a medical issue?
Whenever someone makes a comment like that, it only reveals their own problems in life. Not ours.

hahaha, not that he’s coming back to read these, but the fact that atthemoon read and posted on this means: 1) he was searching out this add-on himself 2) is angry at the world and therefore most likely miserable 3) spends a lot of time on the internet not pleasing women.
i don’t claim to disagree with him or care about what he says, and normally i wouldn’t consider being called “unChristian” an insult, but i agree with Lunatic here. unless you are making jokes, which are not allowed on the internet, save yourself and others the trouble of having to negotiate your garbage posts and self-righteous foolishness.

From what was said in a previous post. I understand this add-on does exactly the same has deleting cookies, cache etc… it will only delete Private Data if you have the ‘Clear Private Data’ box ticked in Private Data setting in the Options tab.
It will only clear whatever you want it to clear by ticking the relevant boxes…. the add-on doesn’t hide your IP or anything it’s just a ‘cookie cleaner’(yes we know it cleans the cache) and so will Firefox if you tell it.
