Stream iTunes Library To PSP 173
Sony’s PlayStation Portable (PSP) is a very popular device and has sold a few million units, but when compared to Apple’s iPod, the PSP lacks storage space. Luckily, the PSP has a built in WiFi card to make up for this disadvantage. With a few simple steps, all of which are included in this tutorial, anyone can stream any non-copyright music from their iTunes library to their PSP. To get started, you will need to have the following:
- PSP With Firmware v2.60
- Networked XP Home/Pro Comp.
- WiFi (802.11b) Network Router
- Apple iTunes v6.0.4 Installed
- Songs in iTunes Music Library
- At Least 1 Playlist With Music
The 5-Step Setup Procedure:
1) Download iTunes-PSP-Server.exe and save it to your desktop.
2) Disable any firewalls and/or keep port 8080 open.
3) Launch iTunes and then click on the iTunes-PSP-Server after.
4) In IE/Firefox open the page “http://localhost:8080″
5) Setup is complete if an “iTunes RSS Server” page appeared.
If the iTunes RSS Server page didn’t appear make sure your firewall has authorized “iTunes-PSP-Server.exe” to access the internet completely. You may also want to add a rule into your firewall to keep port 8080 open. The “black box” is the server, DO NOT close it.
Before going any further make sure you know the IP address of the machine running iTunes and the iTunes-PSP-Server. To find you Local Area Network (LAN) IP go to Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections -> Click on your Network Card -> Support Tab. Your local IP address should look something like this “192.168.1.xxx”. Another method is to go to Start -> Run… -> type “cmd” hit enter -> type “ipconfig” in the window. Your IP Address should be displayed there. Once the 5-Step Procedure is complete and you have found your Local IP Address, proceed to the next step.
The PSP Setup Procedure:
1) Turn on your PSP and go to Network -> Internet Browser.
2) Enter “http://IPADDRESS:8080″ into the Address area.
3) When iTunes RSS Server appears add it to your bookmarks.
4) Now click on any orange RSS icon and “Add This Channel”.
5) Close Internet Browser and go to Network -> RSS Channel.
6) Select a playlist you added and YOUR’RE DONE!!!
This tutorial only demonstrated how to access your iTunes Library over a Local Area WiFi network. If you wish to access your iTunes Library music from any “HotSpot” or external location, you will need to forward port 8080 in your router to allow your Local IP to be accessible externally.
Other Notes: To close the iTunes-PSP-Server just select the black window and press CTRL+Shift+C and it should close. If you update your iTunes library once the server has already been started, selected “Reload Library” on the webpage in your PSP browser. The server can only stream non-copyright protected (DRM-Free) MP3 and AAC files. (no video support yet)

Sweet, I’m going to have a lot of fun with this little app.
Can you get the RSS podcast/vidcast off of I-Tunes?
Nice “How to”, I’m gonna go try it out :)
nice tutorial. cheers
I tried this a few weeks ago and it rocks!
About video streaming, Sony will allow this in a new update soon so you can then set up your vids as well :D
“If you wish to access your iTunes Library music from any “HotSpot” or external location, you will need to forward port 8080 in your router to allow your Local IP to be accessible externally.”
I wouldn’t advise people to do this, it’s not very secure, opening port on the remote interface of your router should only be done when absolutly necessary.
You can stream video to your PSP right now using the PimpStreamer. You can find a complete article on it at http://www.pspupdates.com
Any firmware version can run it. 2.01+ firmwares will need to run the eLoader through GTA.
Very cool. I’m going to have to try this.
Steve,
http://tail-f.net/
is there a way to do this with a mac.
I have a macbookpro. Is there is similar version for macs which is free? Awesome tutorial though.
Will it only work on the computer with the wifi router or will it work from any computer on the network?
There is a method to do this with a macintosh machine, but you’ll need PPM/CPAN modules to do so. Here is the link for more information: http://trickster.bulknews.net/trac.cgi/wiki/ITunesRssServer
iTunes RSS Server will not be able to stream video at the time being, but the iTunes RSS server will automatically extract the audio associated with it it and stream that to you PSP.
awesome tutorial!
How do you do this over the Internet? I have opened port 8080 on my router but what address do I put in now? Is it my ISPADDRESS:8080?
it is great but each playlist only holds 100 songs (in iTunes it can hold all the songs you have e.g 2638) but when you play the RSS channel in youre psp it only holds 100 and thats not the server problem but a psp problem that sony should arrange in the next PSP Update.
“*file extention here* does not exist. Skipped.”
Wth?
[Comment ID #1438 Will Be Quoted Here]
yes, once you forward your local ip in your router you should be able to access from your external IP address using the port you selected.
[Comment ID #1431 Will Be Quoted Here]
the computer can be wired or wireless. it will work just fine as long as both the psp and computer are on networks that can see eachother.
[Comment ID #1440 Will Be Quoted Here]
the psp can only currently handle viewing the first 100 items of any RSS feed. therefore to access more itunes content i suggest creating many smart playlists such as top music, most played, etc…
DUDE, I F**KING LOVE YOU! This is AWESOME! :):):)
I can’t get it to work from remote locations! could you please give us a Step by Step on configuring a Linksys router for this? Another question, could firefox use this RSS as well as to listen on browsers in remote locations?
[Comment ID #1446 Will Be Quoted Here]
for most linksys routers do the following:
1) access your router settings (usually 192.168.1.1)
2) find port forwarding somewhere in the settings area
3) for your local IP ex: 192.168.1.105 forward both TCP and UDP ports from 8080 to 8080 or anything higher.
4) after doing so you should be able to access it externally.
P.S. this will also work just fine with Firefox, Thunderbird, etc…
that’s exactly what i did, i double checked but still no use. just to make sure, i have to put in the actual ip address of my modem, rite? cause the generic 192.168…. won’t work externaly
if there isn’t a solution, then thanks alot for your effort
Admin: externally meaning from outside your LAN to your DSL/Cable Modem IP.
Ill never upgrade from 1.5! NEVER!!! well mebay to 2.0 but not 2.6!
This works exactly as advertised for LAN play. Very cool. Now I can have music while washing dishes without having it blasting through the house or trailing a long headphone cable from my computer
Would this also work with the Nintendo DS?
do you know pspradio ? just set up an icecast server, no itunes. keep 1.5
‘would this also work with a nintendo ds?’
er…no, the nds currently does not support mp3 or any other audio playback let alone rss feeds.
Just installed it… and it’s GREAT! Really simple to set up and it works seamlessly. Finally I can listen to my iTunes library wherever I am… :-)
I have tried doing this externally but no page can be displayed over my ISP address. I have opened port 8080 on UDP and TCP but nothing works on router. What could possibly be wrong?
Nice resource. Thanks for sharing :) Keep up the great work
Thanks sahas! PSP’s rule!
When I run iTunes-PSP-Server.exe I get an error saying “did not return a true value at D:/cpanrun/build/5-8-0/lib/File/Temp.pm line 128.” My D drive is my DVD drive so I don’t understand why the program is looking there. Anybody know what I should do.
i got to work on my computer but i dont know how to acess it on my psp
it doesnt work. i tried everything but it gave me an error (80100D01) when i tried to add it to RSS channel. now my PSP cant even access the server. what do i do?!?!?!?
Hi:
I installed the server and went through the steps to add the RSS stream, however, when I go to review the RSS stream on the PSP, there are no songs listed. I did add the channel. Any ideas? Do I have a network link problem? Do I need a special playlist?
Signed:
Can’t quite get there from here….. Help would be appreciated……
FYI – just noticed that the Tivo Desktop server app has a listener on port 8080. You can’t run both at the same time, so disable your Tivo server (or any other apps listening on 8080) when trying to run this.
BTW, thanks for the app. Any chance you could add the ability to change the listening port as a feature?
Great Write up and I love your site it look very good. Would you mind if i link to your site and this article?
Keep up the good work.
Great tutorial!
The Itunes PSP Server isn’t running on my machine tho, it just opens quickly and closes. I have WMC 2005 so I don’t know if this is an issue. I also turned off all virus scan applications and granted the access on my firewall for the server. Any thoughts ?
Hey can some one help me please! I set up every thing and when i type “http://localhost:8080″ into my browser the RSS things come up, but when i type “http://IPAddress:8080″ into my PSP…it says a error???? what should i do?????!!!! and i also opnded my port…?? any 1 have any iseas!?
Works perfectly! Awesome little app. Appreciate the work you put into this!
i get this when i put the address in my psp broser and hit enter communication with the server falied a dns error has occurred(80410414)…does the address have to be caps cuz u cant in the broser cuz it wont let it plzzz respond.thanks justin
When I open the “server” it briefly pops up with an error. I don’t know of any firewalls and I don’t know what port 8080 is (or how to access it). I know iTunes and how to work it the server just won’t work. Please help asap. Thanks in advance.
When they say “IPAddress:8080″ they mean replace “IPAddress” with your actual IP Address.
Also, can anyone help me out with port forwarding on a Belkin 54G router?
I think the guy that said “DUDE, I F**KING LOVE YOU! This is AWESOME! :):):)” said it best. ;)
this rocks, but i’m having some problems with the buffering. The songs are skippy and such. Is this just a network problem or something?
Thanks again for the tutorial
i really want to do this but i cant get it to work…
i did everything right, it keeps sayin “communication with the server failed. A DNS erroe has occured. (80410414)”
also why do we need to know our IP adress? do we have to enter it somewhere…
please help
thanks
tried this on my first try worked as easy as it can get thnks alot i have been trying to do this for a long time
do i have 2 leave my home computer on 2 access my itunes on my psp?
uhhh all that just goes right over my head…. that would come in handy, if i actually know what y’all were talking about.
i am new to rss on the psp. if i update my playlist, will the rss channel auto update?
I’ve done everything according to the tutorial, but for some reason after I added the channel, there are no songs. I got to the page where I select my playlist, and I chose one of them. But when I try to connect to my new RSS feed, it says there are no items. Why is this? Everyone else seems to have gotten it to work…
Is there a way to set this as a computer service so it can run in the background and i dont have to look at the command window all of the time?
thx
Ok i am a more experenced web user but for some reason i still can’t get The PSP to see the site. I can get to it fine from my pc’s. I first installed this on my own pc then i tried it directly from my music server. Eitherway i can’t get it to work. I have port forwarding on and all the ports are open. When i tried it on my server i kept getting wide character in print error. It says the error is in the perl file. If i could get to the perl file i might be able to fix it but since it is a executable and that file is not accesable i need another way to get this server working. Is it somthing wrong on my psp?? or is it the computer because it shows up fine via the computer, and via the web since i have a domain name. I just don’t understand why this is doing this.
Thanks in advanced for any help,
Dhruv Bhavsar
Holy. . . this is awesome! :D Only bad thing is that a lot of my newer, more listened to music is DRM’d.
Is there any Linux support, I’d love to put this on my home server and be able to access the content anywhere. :D
Thanks!
Hi:
This is my second post because I wanted to update those interested on how I solved my original problem where I could not get my songs to stream. Turned out that the reason I could not get the songs to list after adding the playlist as an RSS feed was because I was trying to list a song that had DRM. DRM songs will not stream with this program. This works with mp3′s that are not protected!!!!!! After finding a non-protected mp3, I was able to easily reference a song and have it play on my PSP. Didn’t even have to port forward the port to use it within my home. Great program!!!
I got it working perfectly. when paired with something like (http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=Flash_MP3_Player) you get streaming music on the web that is as easy to do as dropping a song into a playlist and starting the iTunes-PSP-Server.
Just to clarify for dumb ppl like me – when he says go to http://IPaddress:8080 he means insert your IP address into the url not just type IPaddress as i did lol it works if u use the URL http://:8080
Wow! This is a great piece of software! One quick question though. I would like to know if you will be adding two byte character support for file names that are not in English. Thanks!
I can’t get http://localhost:8080/ to open on my main computer. I went into Windows Firewall config and allowed Port 8080, but with iTunes and the server running, still nothings happening when I go to http://localhost:8080/ on my PC. What’s up?
I can see the RSS Feed and I have songs in the playlist except when i try to click on the rss feed, it says “The content cannot be displayed.” I am at the last step and I am so close. Please someone help with the very last part.
Here are some answers to the questions I have seen:
> Why isn’t it working on Windows Media Center 2005?
It is a XP-based OS and therefore should work, check your built-in XP Firewall once again. If it still doesn’t work, I don’t know whats wrong.
> My PSP browser says http://IPAddress:8080 is an error…
Make sure you are entering the right IP address of you machine, not your PSP’s IP. If it is working on your machine thats good news, now find your LOCAL IP using one of the methods mentioned above and try entering it into your PSP. If that also doesn’t work, I can’t help you much other than tell you to check your firewall settings.
> Why are my songs skippy and buffer a lot?
This may occur for multiple reasons:
PC may be running slow because of too many processes.
Your WiFi router may be slow or too far from your PSP.
The song’s kbps might be too much. (320kbps tested)
> Do I have to leave the computer on to access music?
yes, because if your computer is off then the iTunes RSS Server is also off meaning your PSP is not really connecting to anything.
> How do I update RSS playlist on my PSP?
If you modify your iTunes playlists once the server has already been started, you will need to go to the iTunes RSS Server page and press “Reload Music Library”. (go back to the RSS channel and it should work)
> I can’t get http://localhost:8080 to work on my PC
If you are running into this issue and you have already opened up the firewall ports, this may be because other services using that port are running on your machine. I suggest closing all programs and services not required and trying it again.
this app rules it is a lot simpler than the last one I tried.
this is the greatest thing to happen to planet earth since astronaut ice cream!
sahas: thanks for all the answers!
question, once a rss channel is added, will it auto update the aggregated links? each playlist can change over time.
update: please ignore last question. the reload works.
This i suspect is very similiar, but doesnt require iTunes to be installed.
Streams WMA’s too. – http://tinyurl.com/fq6yz
nvm i got it to work. it was a corrupted SAMPCH folder (the one from the sample channel) so i deleted it and now it works! i also noticed that before i deleted it, i couldnt download any RSS channels at all. NICE WORK DUDE!!!
My problem is that I had to upgrade to 2.6 but to be able to listen to an unlimited number of music files it so fricken worth it. I love this app.
Excellent Job, what about pls support? I am interested in restreaming shoutcast streams to my PSP. I have spent a number of hours hacking at this problem to no avail. Would that be a difficult addition to this program?
Hey- I can’t wait to get this working. I get everything setup until i get to the PSP setup. I type in my IP Address and all that in the URL box thing, and once it loads it says “The connection to the server timed out.” What should I do?
How do you open up port 8080
Wow, Great software, The first time I tried it every thing worked as promised! However, the next day, (after running Windows Washer) My black box is just that. A black Box, with none of that text that was there yesterday, telling me it was running. I’ve re-downloaded the I Tunes PSP Server but nothing I’m doing seems to help. Any suggstions?
This is frikin awesome!! Unbelievable!!!
Nice try and everything, but this seems to be yet another let-down. I have run into quite a bit of these so called “time saving apps” which claim to stream music to the psp easily. Unfortunately, it gets the feed open and then when it is accessed, it searches for the file and then gives up for some reason, claiming that it doesn’t exist and skips everything. No, it isnt a DRMed file, or the port is wrong, or the ip address is wrong. There is something wrong in the coding. I can tell this because of where it stops (after it is polled for the tracks). So once again, nice try but its somewhat useless. I might as well go back to coding one myself that will include video support for the new psp update (If one will ever exist. However I think that may be yet another letdown…) unless if you can find another way… -Disgruntled User
I was able to get the Itunes RSS server page to open on my computer but when I tryed it on my PSP it says “Communication with the server failed/ DNS errot has occured. (80410414)” I have no idea what that means. I have the 8080 port open and my firewall turned off. I am trying this at my home. Plz help
Se Garrit i have the same problem. Heck i can even access it via computer from outside my house. But my psp can’t load it at all. I get the same error on the psp and in the black box i get a wide character error. I don’t even think the guy who created this is been to this area in a while.
If you cant get it to work READ EVERY POST!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most likly some1 else has your problem and some1 has replyed to it. I just wana say ty to rickyh2k for telling me how to fix it. READ EVERYthing it may be long but this is well worth IT!!
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
Thanks for the instructions!!!!
yeh i can get the thing 2 work on the comp but wen i go 2 do it on my psp it gets the error that other people get :9 and i really want it 2 work

VERY NICE TOOL !!!
Thank you :-)
is there something i can do if i am getting a server timeout every time i try this? i haven’t been able to get it to work yet, because every time i put in the address on my psp web browser i get a server timeout. thanks.
Brilliant. Ive been trying to get this to work ever since RSS came out for PSP – now finally it works and was dead straight forward. THANKYOU! ever so much :-)
Cool program, one question, how do you get this thingy to work with an airport?
thank you Garret – to clarify my earlier post for other people use the url http://(IPaddress):8080 you must insert your own pc’s (running iTunes) IP address where it says IPaddress and all should work – also remember to open the PSP program BEFORE iTunes
“The Connection was refused when attempting to use ‘IP’:8080″ HOW THE HECK DO I GET THIS THINK TO WOK!?!?!?!?! i have the latest psp version and itunes version my email is gadgetguy22@yahoo.com
Awsome, love it, now i can save my 2gig for other things. Good work to all who made this one happen.
will this work on Win 2000 pro? my server still run that os…
> I am getting Server Timeouts, Please Help!
If you are getting server timeouts or error messages on the PSP and it works just fine on your PC please do a few tests. First if you have another machine on the same LAN, just type the same IP address into that machine and see if the “iTunes RSS Server” page comes up. If it still doesn’t work from anywhere other than the PC running this your port :8080 might still not be open. Check your winXP firewall as well as any other 3rd party firewalls. If it did work at some point and then stopped, try restarting your machine and trying again, sometimes windows messes up port settings.
> Error 80410414 or other PSP errors?
If the only area you are running into the issue is your PSP try some of the following. Restore Default PSP settings in your PSP and try again. Just for a quick check make sure your PSP can access the web by opening the browser and trying to access any webpage. You also MUST be on the same LAN network, unless you are trying to stream it to places outside your home. If everything works but can’t access the iTunes RSS Server page on the PSP, the problem is most likley with some firewall setting on you PC.
> Wide Character Error.
The current iTunes RSS Server currently has problems with certain characters in song file names. It may not work properly with some symbols or other language characters. Sometimes even if the iTunes RSS Server accepts them, the PSP might not be able to recognize them. Therefore i reccomend, for those having this error, to make sure that your iTunes Library doesn’t have songs with unusual characters.
> Firewall Questions:
if you are having issues with timeouts and not being able to access it on your PSP, try it out once with all firewalls off. (turn of WinXP firewall as well) make sure your PC allows other LAN machines to access your files. Also a quick restart would be helpful.
kk this thing works from my computer as a localhost but when i put in my ip address in my psp with the port it just goes to my routers homepage? can anyone fix this problem?
what is a safe port to change it to? and do i have to have the management thing enabled in order to use the RSS feature.
justin i have you covered on tis issue. Go to advanced on your router or look around for it. You should see somthing called remote management. Click it and change the port as the default remote management port is 8080. I also had to change mine. And if you are not using it then disable it for safety precautions.
Justin a safe port is not really existant. But if you don’t need the option then disable it. THis will NOT effect the psp. But just so u know i used port 8181 since it is just 2 changed digits and easy to remember for me. Also remember if you leave this option on then make sure to change ur router’s default password. Also if your router allows then also change the user name to strengthen security. Just some advice..
Take care justin!!
I get far but when it comes time to use the psp, I get a problem. After entering http://IPAddress:8080 into the Address area in the psp internet browser I get the message “Communication with the server failed..A DNS error has occurred. (80410414)” anyone know what to do?
I have been having alot of trouble with this. I followed the instructions as said to, except I wasn’t sure on how to open port 8080, and the http://localhost:8080 doesn’t open to the RSS Feed page. Any help on how to open port 8080 and help in general would be highly appreciated. Thanks

sorry- try PspMediaServer – easier way to do it…
I’ve finally got it to work and the thing i can only say is…uhum… IT KICK ASS!!….VERY VERY COOL! xD
I Did everything the tutorial said but I still couldn’t get it to work…. now I’m pissed off!!! :(
sry CJ, I’d never
a) set up IIS just in order to stream some music
b) fiddle around /w config files just in order to stream some music
c) create redundant copys of my files just in order to ….
d) .Net just in order to… you must be kidding
instead I prefer
- d/l that 2.5MB sized (free) file, no need to install anything
- I Tunes as the most polished media-player (up to now) is installed anyway
- just start the server, confirm WinXP Security Waring (Yes! Allow) connect to my machine and beginn listening to music in 5m
pls don’t create a Gui or other nonsens not needed in any way.
great App! THX!
hey this is great and i fixed my (dns) error and my search engines work when i type them in in the browser but the (dns) comes back whenever i type in http://IPAddress:8080 … any help?

Very nice app. Worked first try.
People who bad-mouth this method are idiots.

Come on, you guys seem like your having alot of trouble getting this to work, i got it to work and im only 15 and i know some of you are alot older, lol
This program is great. I had some troubles in the beginning, but now I have it working fine. It works great, and the quality is superb! Hope to see some updates in the future for album art!
I’m only getting 101 song and not all 1880 songs. Dose the menory card matters, I have the 1G card.
Hi! Absolutely hot programm – unfortunately, it is not working for me. I got it to run properly, but everytime I want to stream a channel, the server runs through all the files claiming that they were not “there”. Of course they are and work with iTunes.. seems like I got the same error as the Anonymous User above. Any suggestions please? Thx!
papeete this process again, That what I had to do.
) Turn on your PSP and go to Network -> Internet Browser.
Hi, thats actually what I tried, several times. It’s not working. As soon as I choose a feed, it checks the feed and tells me that the files were not there.. :((
I have found it cant find some mp3′s – try using some different tracks – and try lots.
I cant figure out why it cant find some tracks but there you go. The error message is “blahblah.mp3 doesn’t exist. Skipped.” I still say this is an absolutely top bit of software though *8-)
[Comment ID #1438 Will Be Quoted Here]
Thorpe yes, if you’ve got 8080 opened and forwarding to your computer, then you just use your outside Ip adress (ISP ip). I just tested tis out on mine, and it works great. If you don’t know your outside address, the quickest way to get it is search google for “my ip” the first site will tell you.
If you don’t like that idea you can find it in your router’s firmware but it’s location varies from router to router.
i have a mac and wanted to know how to run the mac version. it opens up in safari as a large document. i can download but it still won’t run. can anyone please instruct me on how to open the app? thanks
hey i got it to work n’ everythin but i changed a playlist and wen i delete it (from RSS)then re add it, it sez “There is no item”…help
Stream iTunes Library To PSP. The PSP software only aloud you to store 100 songs in the RSS feed and no more then that; So you’ll have to make an addition play list within the iTune source i.e (My MP3 Songs 1, My MP3 Songs 2) and add 100 songs each per playlist and so on. Depending on how many songs you have in your iTune Library your screw.
Kyle – try hitting the reload option on the web page on the PSP.
Is there any way that this could be edited so the user can choose which port the stream is on?
This is a great tool, but my ISP along with a bunch of other block port 8080 so there is no way to listen.
That would be amazing if you could build that in somehow.
damnit. i had it working for ages before now i get the same stupid error that everyone else has. and i KNOW how to do it, because i had it up before.
I get the same error as several people and nobody has said how to fix it, everything seems to work fine but when I try to listen to a feed, the server goes through all the songs claiming they are not “there” when they are. Anybody know how to fix this???
Hi, I kinda figured out what the problem is. After I experienced the error for some days now, I tried to copy one file into a simple /music directory on my harddisk – also, I renamend the file into a simple and short name. Here we go: It worked. Before the file path was huge. I suppose that the server has problems recognizing difficult file names or pathes.
The software also work well on PSP Firmware v2.70 and it is more stable.
Also with 2.7 of the firmware you can save the mp3 to your memory stick – you dont have to stream it :-)
Can not get it to work. I only get an error message on my psp, “Communication with the server failed 8001006F.” I have all the above requirements. When I installed the ITunes-PSP-Server DOS came up and never went away. Do not know if that means anything or not. But for some reason it is not working. I even shut down my firewall and internet security, but still would not work. Anyone got a clue, keeping in mind that I know diddly about ports/anything computer related? Would appreciate the help.
Need help. PSP will not connect to itunes using RSS server. Error, communication with server failed 8001006F. I have all the above listed requirements and shut down my firewall and internet security. I am computer illiterate, so any detailed help would be appreciated.
I think most people would find this freeware CodeWave
application much much easier to use. I had no trouble getting it working on a MAC or PC. It support RSS and works great with my iTunes and my PSP and other machines.
THIS WORK SOOOOO GOOOD!!!! thnx for who ever made this
i dont know how to shut down my firewall to access http://localhost:8080 so it just says that it was refused, can some one help me?
Yes, that codewave one works perfectly since you can specify a custom port, which is something this Skatter-Tech one needs badly!
I very much prefer the skatter tech one for making the RSS feeds, but since the CodeWave one supports ports other than 8080 I’ll be using that one until the Skatter Tech one catches up.
Thanks for the link Aaron.
Thanks Also.

I have the same problem……anyone please help???
Nice program, but what if you have 2 drives like me. I have a C and an E drive, and all my iTunes music is on the E drive. Is there a way that it could be modified, so that instead of it checkin C:\Documents and Settings\… etc, then it’ll go to E:\Documents and Settings\…?
Does this work with 2.7 ? I can connect to it from my PC , but when I try it form the PSP it doesn’t work, It says on the server windows the PSP IP address with GET/ infront of it but on the PSP it takes ages and ages and then comes up with the error message “The connection to the server timed out” I have Zone alarm suite and a netgear router
i need help the damn thing when i try to connect with my psp says Communication with te sever failed. A DNS error has occurred. i really need help
Can we get the icon in… cornflower blue?
I’m using MyTunesRSS now. (http://www.codewave.de/?page=products/mytunesrss/)
Works better for me, easy to configurate und I like the icon. ;-)
MyTunesRSS is the best software around to Stream iTunes Playlists. Keep up the great work Michael Descher & Roland Müller.

Hummm… surely this is taken care of by your iTunes? I don’t know the inside of this software but from what I can tell it needs to know where the .xml file is and then it gets the music. I would guess if you iTunes can handle the multiple disks then this can too?
MyTunesRSS is really good. I don’t know about C and E drives, but the software takes the iTunes Music Library XML file in which iTunes stores all music file references. So no matter where the files are, if they work in iTunes, they’ll work in MyTunes. Really guys, check this software out.
By the way, MyTunesRSS 1.1 was released only two days ago with new features like iTunes playlist support! All people who tried 1.0.1 should really try the new relase!!!
This has worked very well all the way up to the psp conection part…after i type in the address on the psp it says “communication with the server failed. A DNS error has occured…” Any ideas?
Hi shrub. What address are you trying to access with the psp?
It’s easier then an RSS Feeder, let me tell you. But, Im having a problem. I have all my firewalls enabled port8080 and the program too but whenever I try to either play a song… it freezes on my computer and I loose connection to the server on my PSP. Also, I have this one playlist – PSPMusic – and when I go to download the channel… it freezes too. I’ve tried lessening the amount of music and a new playlist but it always freezes when obtaining that one playlist.
when i try to connect my psp to the server it says
“Communication with the server failed
A DNS error has occurred (80410414)
Very nice and promising tool!
However, I got this little problem: the soft seems to ignore accents in the name of MP3 files, and this is like a BIIIG problem for me, as there is at least one “é” or “à” in most of my song/album names…
This drawback of living ion France, I guess! ;-)
Is there any way to correct this, except by renaming all my MP3 collection ?
Thanks!
Hi Chris,
please mail me at info@codewave.de and attach a log please. To get the log, just enable it on the first tab and then start the server. After it is running, click the button to view the log and copy it into a mail.
>> By the way, I just tested accents and they worked on my local Firefox as well as on my PSP. Please open your iTunes Music Library.xml in a text editor and send me the very first line, the one beginning with “<?xml”.
Thanks,
Michael Descher
is der any other way?? for the computer not to be one you know or give meh steps on how i can forward my ipaddress on my router cause i can only access my music when i’m only at my house use my router….
Thanks Michael, I tried MyTunesRSS and I can see all my songs now, including those with an accent in the name! For that reason as well as for the user-friendly UI, I’ll continue to use it instead of iTunes PSP Server.
Hi. As you can read in the official forum (board.codewave.de), the next version will have a new feature to browse your library and generate not only RSS-feeds but M3U-playlists, that let you listen to your music with many common media players that do not support RSS!
HOW DO YOU MINIMIZE THE SERVER WINDOW? CAN THIS BE PUT IN TASKBAR?
Will you be able to add album art in a newer version, with that this program would be even greater!!
I was going to read every comment but I had no luck, I needa go to bed soon, but I did this, I got the rss working fine but when I scan to get the actual music files they dont come and on the server box it says it doesnt exist (it does) and then it skips that file. I cant get any to work
i have used this for a while now and i frikin love it, but today, it stoped working. No fancy text came up saying “its ok to use the server now.” NOTHING!!! i even tried downloading it again and that didn’t even work. if someone knows how to fix this problem, please dont hesitate to e-mail me. My e-mail address is team3989@yahoo.com.
Hey, just use MyTunesRSS from Codewave ( http://www.codewave.de/products/mytunesrss ) and forget all your problems. ;-)
i did this and it works, but i want to access it through a “external” hotspot location. I opened my port 8080 on my dlink router, and when I tried it from an outside location, the rss channel would just take forever to load and then it would say “the server has timed out” or something like that.
Did you use the correct IP from outside, i.e. your external IP? The ones MyTunesRSS displays in the status line are for internal access only.
Does codewave have album art support when you stream to the PSP?-
(Hey, just use MyTunesRSS from Codewave ( http://www.codewave.de/products/mytunesrss ) and forget all your problems. ;-) )
Hello BTCS. I am the co-developer on MyTunesRSS. MyTunesRSS does not (yet) support album art, but we are keeping that in mind for a future version. At the moment we are working on version 2.0 that will support “library browsing” and “playlist creation”. (Check out the preview screenshots on our board: http://board.codewave.de/viewtopic.php?t=8!)
Also, you are allowed to make feature requests on our forum. Just give us a visit!
One note to the other guys commenting on this article: It got hard to figure out, which product the comments are about. So if you are having trouble with MyTunesRSS, please come to our forum (http://board.codewave.de). We will try to help you.
Greetings, Roland.
Dude the first time i tried it the program worked so well no probloms your so cool how do you make a program like that?
It works all the way up to the PSP part and then says communication with the server failed, a DNS error has occurred, what do i do???? can someone plz tell me.
it says a DNS has occurred, what do i do???
The new software Sucks (MyTunesRSS 2.0.1.)
MyTunesRSS 2.0.1 (SUCKS)
I have a problem, when i try to access the site through the browser on my psp, i get a ” communication with server failed. A DNS error has occured” message. I am sure i have the proper port open. what can I do to fix this??
hey when i try to enter my ip address into the psp browser, it will begin to go to the site, but then it will stop and say “the connection to the server timed out”. What does this mean? please help, thanks.
when I open http://localhost:8080 on my computer it shows “page cannot be displayed” i have the server popped up as well as iTunes, and both my firewalls are disabled! And thanks for the help
I keep getting a Cannot find server or DNS Error when i try to put in http://ipaddress:8080 im my psp everytime i try to pull it up, can anyone help me
thankz very nice.
- – - – - – - – - – - ATTENTION EVERYONE THAT IS RECEIVING A TIMEOUT MESSAGE – - – - – — – - – - –
IF YOU ARE USING A WIRELESS DLINK ROUTER, OR POSSIBLY EVEN ANY OTHER ROUTER, THEN THIS WILL NOT WORK FOR YOU IF YOUR SERVER IS RUNNING ON A WIRELESS MACHINE.
If you want to test this, plug your router into your machine and try the server then. i noticed this was the same with all kinds of RSS feeds, remotes, and all other WIFI link psp to PC programs. IF YOUR SERVER IS RUNNING WIRELESS YOU PROBABLY WILL GET A TIMEOUT MESSAGE REGUARDLESS OF YOUR PORT FOWARDING.
If im incorrect please tell me so. This is just what i found.
I think this is awsome. I’m so getting this for my PSP.
i recommend the Codewave one posted earlier on these posts its so easy to use seriously, even a caveman could use it
This sounds real cool and I am going to try it out and hope it works
How many songs from the iTunes library will it hold?
okay, so i can access it from my computer, but not form my psp. when i open port 8080 on the windows firewall, i still cannot acess it form my psp. but when i close the firewall on my cpmuter, then my psp can access and stream my music. i cant access it with my firewall on, so what other port do i need open in order to access it from my psp?
I connect to the internet fine, but when I go to the site. It either say connection timed out or DNS error and stuff. Please help me before I throw my PSP out the window
1.turn off all firewalls on computer.start>control panel>windows firewall (also turn off any other internet security systems such as norton or mcafee)
2.go to start>control panel>network connections, click local area connection, then click support tab and there it should say your ip address
3.now turn on the itunes psp app (dont forget you need itunes)
4.on the psp go to web browser and in the address bar type your ip address then colon 8080 (example 192.168.2.6:8080)
5. once on the page add a rss channel then close out go to rss channel and open your channel —
if your having any problems still then i most likely cant help you, the only problem im having is accessing it externally such as at a airport or hotel
I think that it is a wonderful thing to do.
