PSP Multiplayer With One Game 146
I was playing around with the PSP and I wanted to play a multiplayer game with my friend. But because he did not have the game I was trying to figure out a way to play with only one copy. And I found out that it is actually pretty easy. I tested the game with Twisted Metal and it worked great. To play any multiplayer game on a Sony PSP with only one copy of a game, do the following:
- Place the game into the 1st PSP. Start the game. Start a Multiplayer Ad-Hoc game. (Set the time to unlimited because moving the game between the units takes a while.) Get everything ready, settings ect., except do not enter the game.
- Now remove the game from the unit. A message will appear asking whether you want to exit the game, say NO! The game should go back to the setting screen, where it is waiting for you to press start. (Don’t press start yet on PSP #1)
- Now take the game and place it into the 2nd PSP. Start the game. Now go to Ad-Hoc games and find the server that the other PSP has already started. Once you find the game enter it after choose your personal settings.
- Once the game is done loading on PSP #2 take it out and put it back into unit #1. And press start and it should load into the game!
- And now you are playing each other on two PSPs with only one copy of the game. And if you want to, you can do this with up to as many units as you wish. As long as the game supports that many players.
This works great, but I bet you Sony doesn’t like it. Also to be on the safe side I removed my memorystick to prevent any possible data loss if the unit freezes. Also when you want to exit the game it might freeze. And even trying to power off the unit might not work. To solve this problem just place the game into the frozen PSP and it will do some loading and then resume normally. Any more questions? Then make a comment and I will help you if I can.Update: There have been many comments saying that this does not work, but I tested it with Twisted Metal, Need for Speed, Tony Hawk, and a few others and they worked fine. Update: I tested them multiple times, but I actually found that it is working perfectly on the PSPs with FirmWare v1.50. But when I tried it with PSPs with FirmWare v1.52 it couldn’t connect both of the PSPs together. I have not tried v1.51 so please make a comment u have tried it with it. (07/08/05)
Update: (07/27/05) First I would like to say that the my Multiplayer PSP hack does in fact work with v1.52! There needs to be a few changes made to the procedure and it will work just fine! I am going to be posting the new set of instructions soon so check the main page of my blog. Also Sony announced some new FirmWare Updates for the PSP v2.0, which will work with Sonic Stage 3.2! – link

Edit: People sony has been doing some work so people can raise there psp firmware to a 2.8 and up dont do this because u may not play two people with only one umd an u cannot trick it out ( play games from the memory stick ) its true they might offer you demos and some more CRAP!! but personally i think its not worth it ! !

so u realise that like 80% of the games let u run the game in a restricted multi player mode with out removing of disks etc, it just sends the level to the friends psp over wireless… what a useless “hack” lol
I just wanted to add…I’m a mom that has to figure these things out sometimes when the little guys don’t get it and want to play against eachother. The hack worked great and I’ve now taught them how to do this. THanks!

for those who are trying to play multiplayer with 1 copy of the game look on the back of the box bcause it could have the game sharing ability and if it does you can send the game wirelessly to the other psp without any possible chance of damage to either psp the hack does have the risk of freezing the psp but that can be solved by simply taking out the battery i have tried the hack it does work but if the game already has the game sharing ability (which not all games have) then the hack is pointless

Why not just Mod a PSP then backup the game and only load it on the other psp for multiplayer sessions its what I did as when I bought my first psp I assumed the game share allowed me to share every game it took about 2 hrs of research but I learned how and if I can anyone can.

Game developers need support to continue releasing quality games I just don’t believe in having to own 2 copies of the same thing just for Multiplayer. IMO PSP UMD’s should come with a spawn function which loads just core multiplayer files to either RAM/Memory Stick for fast access no single player just multiplayer maps character shells ect.

Hello, I’m trying to game share with Smackdown vs Raw 2007, I went to the wireless lobby and had someone try to game share and it would not find it. Now my psp is a newer one while the other is really old would that be a factor in game sharing or not? I have tried everything to get this game to share but it just wont connect can you please help me I really want to share this game please and thank you!

2nd psp: just choose the game sharing (at the desktop)

i forgot, the “wlan:” it is a switch… founded on the side of psp…
